Flip flop: Fireball streaking across daytime Texas sky called a jet contrail by NASA?

April 10, 2012TEXASThe Texas sky lit up during the daytime last week, much to the surprise of thousands of people who witnessed it. So bright that it looked “like a little piece of the sun falling,” as one San Antonio resident told the local news station, the rare daytime meteor event was yet another example of the scientific mystery known as spring fireball season. According to NASA, 30 years of observations show that there’s a consistent uptick in the number of fireballs — meteors that glow brighter than the planets as they scorch through Earth’s atmosphere — during the spring compared with other times of the year. “There are two peaks: one around February and the other at the end of March and early April,” said Bill Cooke, head of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office. “And this remains a mystery.” The Texas event was bright enough to have corresponded to the atmospheric burn-up of a space rock at least a yard across, Cooke told Life’s Little Mysteries. But no one knows why springtime meteors are 10 to 30 percent more common. “I can tell you a lot of the bright and slow fireballs appear to be coming from the direction opposite the sun, but they have not much in common other than that,” he said. “You see a lot more ordinary meteors in the fall, but the spring seems to have the big slow movers — the ones that are really impressive.” To tackle the mystery, Cooke and his NASA colleagues have set up a network of “smart meteor cameras” around the United States that they use to triangulate the trajectories of meteors, pinning down their positions to within the area of a football field as they enter the atmosphere. This has enabled the scientists to map the origins of falling space rocks from different parts of the sky. The approximately 1,800 meteor events recorded by the camera network so far indicate that the spring fireballs probably originate from asteroids, while fall meteors come from comets. “The [spring fireballs’] orbits indicate they come from the main asteroid belt. A lot of the smaller meteors in the fall come from comets, which are made of icy bits of dust, and they don’t last long in the atmosphere. Those ones are generally not big enough to make fireballs.” Once sufficient data has been collected, the scientists expect a pattern to emerge that will reveal the reason for spring fireball season, or the fact that Earth seems to encounter more asteroidal material in the spring. “It appears that a lot of the stuff out there in the asteroid belt is clumping up in the springtime more than other times of the year,” he said. –Yahoo News
Contrail or Meteor? A bright object that streaked across the Texas sky during the day April 4, originally believed to be a meteor burning up as it entered Earth’s atmosphere, was actually a flying jet and its contrail, a NASA scientist has confirmed. Local news stations reported that the bright object was a fireball (an especially bright meteor) and Bill Cooke, head of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office, initially said it was indeed a fireball, and more evidence of the mysterious and unexplained observation that there are more fireballs in the spring than other times of the year. However, other experts argued that the Texas fireball was actually a jet contrail reflecting the glow of the setting sun, making it appear fiery. –Space

Looking the two pictures provided in this posting, the smaller photo looks like rocket exhaust, while the pic in the video startup looks like an object entering the atomsphere and burning up.
    Just my opinion………….
P.S. Not one to be paranoid, but in the last two days here in NC, I’ve seen some
objects that were questionable…………..I do not look for UFO’s ….but interesting

So what did you see in NCarolina? Now so many strange things happening all over our country and earth who knows anymore what is what?

Dianne: Dennis E. here: Saturday on HWY 70 West in Craven County, I saw what I thought what was a small balloon or so I thought slightly to my right, off a short distance. What happened then was that the object took off at an slight angle into the sky and kept gaining attitude and seeming to retain its angle of departure. It did not leave at a super high rate of speed, but at a consistent speed until it disappeared. There was no contrail. My first thought, a loose balloon, but then it did that. and then monday evening,i was again on hwy70 west and i observed a simliar type object over the city I live in, small silver type object, at a low attitude above the city I live in and it just vanished. Not near any cell phone towers. No glint off the winshield, just strange.
I did a self-test and found myself to be alright and still the non-ufo expecting/looking person I am……
        Have a nice day

    • I was going to sya something similar, I don’t know of many jets with a contrail configured like that ,the first pic appeared to be a 5 engine job like an old saturn 5…
I wonder if all these CME’s are moving things around in from their normasl orbit, and we are not catching them….

I agree. In the small photo, you can see a black object representing the plane. But in the video, no plane can be seen. Maybe it’s just the angle, but the video looks more like something burning up than a jet trail.

I don’t look for UFOs either, but I happened to blog today about the popular theory that the coming great deception will be about extraterrestrial life. Not sure I agree with that theory, but it’s pretty interesting, so I wrote something up. Always good to be aware of what’s being covered in prophecy circles.

Do a bit of youtube research on Wernher von Braun.

On Youtube -his assistant Carol Rosin talks/explains about the very thing you mentioned ” the coming great deception will be about extraterrestrial life.”

        (below from Wikipedia)

He was a German-born rocket scientist, aerospace engineer, space architect, and one of the leading figures in the development of rocket technology in Nazi Germany during World War II and, subsequently, the United States.

In his 20s and early 30s, von Braun was the central figure in Germany’s rocket development program, responsible for the design and realization of the V-2 combat rocket during World War II. After the war, he and some of his rocket team were taken to the U.S. as part of the then-secret Operation Paperclip.

I think it is a bit more than just a meteor. Sorry, but I do. It’s funny that the experts call this kind of thing normal and that it seems to happen all the time in the spring. It MAY happen all the time, but when things like this are actually SEEN by the masses is when “they” scramble for reasonable explanations.

Video from 0:44 is quite similar to other video which was uploaded 1 year ago.
Thinks logically it looks like contrail-chemtrail at sunset but poor quality does not allow to see it by heart.

Hard to say which this is (Contrail or Fireball). The interesting thing is the colour of the “trail”, it does suggest that some sunlight is filtering through the trail no matter which scource created it.
I have only seen fireballs at night here in Australia and if there is no moon it is quite hard to see the gaseous debris trail it leaves, but the fireball does normally break apart a little creating a number of little trails that vanish quite quckly. You don’t see any break away pieces but that may be down to there not being enough video shown to conclusively go either way.

By the way I’m a long time reader but this is my first post.
It is also amazing how much of the general public do not realise the increase in our planetary events. Keep up the good work EP.

Yes most of the general public doesn’t appear to be too concerned with anything space-related, almost as if it is all fantasy! I notice that comments concerrning space events are very low on most websites that expose such happenings, such as solar events that could very well affect our normal way of life in the near future. Oh, but sports, Hollywood and the like will get hundreds of hits! I suppose it’s true…”ignorance is bliss!”
