Christchurch, New Zealand rattled by more earthquakes

September 1, 2011CHRISTCHURCH, NZ – Two strong aftershocks have jangled nerves in New Zealand’s second biggest city, where an earthquake killed 181 people and destroyed the central district six months ago. Since the 6.3-magnitude quake on February 22, the Christchurch region has experienced more than 4,000 aftershocks, hampering the recovery effort and reinforcing uncertainty about the future. Leanne Curtis, who lives in one of the worst affected residential areas, said: “Do you stay and keep wondering if there’ll be another big one, or do you go?” Mrs. Curtis’s house is one of more than 5,000 deemed uninhabitable as a result of the February quake, which liquefied the ground in suburbs east of the city centre. The government has offered to buy homes located in the “red zone”, but some residents are reluctant to rebuild elsewhere, while others say they cannot afford to do so because land prices have rocketed. A Royal Commission has been examining why so many buildings in the centre were destroyed. Nearly two thirds of people died in one office block, the Canterbury Television (CTV) building, which pancaked and collapsed in February. No one inside survived. Among those hoping for answers is Iraqi-born Maan Alkaisi, who lost his wife, Maysoon Abbas, in the tragedy. A doctor, she was working in a clinic in the CTV building. Mr Alkaisi wants to know why she and the others died in a building only 25 years old. He said she had told him that the building felt shaky. “It was built in 1986, not 1886,” he said. “We knew a lot about earthquakes at that time. For a building to collapse in such a drastic way, there must have been a drastic design failure.” Yesterday’s tremors, measuring 4.0 and 4.8, and today’s 4.5 came just before the first anniversary this Sunday of a 7.1-magnitude quake that caused widespread damage in Christchurch but claimed no lives. The February quake was shallower and centered closer to the city. Christchurch’s mayor, Bob Parker, said it feels as if the city has been under “seismic attack” for 12 months. –The National

I LOVE Extinction Protocol I read it several times daily. I just watched a very interesting video on the 188 days between the earthquakes and the tribulation period. If you have 8 minutes you should check it out at http://youtu.be/xizZLbWaWKo Thanks for all your hard work!

    • Thanks Richard. Though I don’t believe in the rapture and plan to endure the same suffering on Earth as everyone else, I applaud the analysis and the search for meaning in these Earth events. It definitely shows people are searching and that’s comforting. We have less time left than we can imagine. May God bless you and thanks for your support and for sharing.

      Grace in Christ,

Alvin, why don’t you believe in the Rapture? I thought God’s Wrath wasn’t reserved for believers? So that’s it? We all die???

    • Well, Brandon— not to turn this into a rapture discussion but I believe in the bodily, 2nd coming persence of Christ that no man knows the day or the hour.

a). Every eye shall see him.” Revelation 1:7
b). Will be visible like “the lightning comet out out of the East, and shineth even unto the West, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Matthew 24:27
c). Will catch the world by complete surprise: “All the kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.” Rev: 1:7, Luke 18:8

That we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.” Acts 14:22. The Apostles of Christ, those anointed fishermen and peasants from the rugged seaside villages of Galilee and Capernaum, whom the Master loved and entrusted with his most endearing and solemn blessings to spread the gospel message to the world, were all persecuted, tortured, and killed. Only John, who was cast into a pot of boiling oil and did not die, was exiled to the forbidden wasteland and dingy abandoned copper mines of the Island of Patmos in a far-flung region of the Aegean Sea. Christ has promised his faithful followers no life of ease or freedom from trails. Every faith that confesses the name of Christ must be tried; the experience christened, the gold of character- purified and separated from the dross. Comes the admonition of Christ to his flock, “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Be zealous therefore and repent.” Revelation 3:19. Before the crown of gold, comes the crown of thorns. The return of Christ comes at the culmination of the planet’s crisis and it is a rescue from certain extinction but it will neither save the Earth from unmitigated destruction nor potentially spare the believer from a life of trials or death by tribulation. There will be many that will be alive to meet the Lord when he arrives but compared to the vast number of those who will be lost; it will appear as only a sealed handful.

Its not important that you believe in the rapture if you have asked Jesus to come into your heart according to John 3:16 and John 14:6 as they say it will all pan out. I just want to thank you for your hard work. God Bless

Alvin, I appreciate your candor when it comes to the widespread belief of the “rapture”. Too many Christians have been misled by endtime teachings that originated many centuries ago as a way of taking the heat off the Papacy when it came to the Biblical understanding of the Beast/Anti-Christ (btw anti in Greek can mean “in place of”) Christians will go through the “Time of trouble” and will endure all the earth/politcal changes with the rest as a test of their loyalty to GOD. May we all be found faithful! Teachings like espoused in the “Left Behind” series give people a false hope of a second chance, much like the teaching of Purgatory. The time to Accept Christ is Now, today!
Keep up the good work informing us of all the changes that are happening, I enjoy reading your pages. SSS

I personally don’t believe in the rapture or “second” chance, but do understand that a lot of christians do. If I am wrong, then I believe if I have accepted Christ as my lord and lived my life accordingly it doesn’t matter….but if I was to believe in the rapture and that I may have a second chance..I may not live as diligently (procrastination). So…however it goes down be ready for that day. No man knows the day or the hour and you wouldn’t want to be caught procrastinating if the rapture wasn’t so.

  5. Okay, I’m not going to go into the rapture – no rapture discussion except to say that I do believe in one. I only say that to help understand my point of view.

Now, it seems to me that there are a lot of similarities with Christchurch NZ and Japan. Both are still suffering from serious aftershocks, or maybe foreshocks for another big quake. Is this just because it’s part of the Ring of Fire and the ring is active or is there another connection I’m not seeing.

    Be blessed and Maranatha

I agree with you Irene. Just my two cents on the rapture. though I didn’t grow up believing it I do believe in it now. Main reason is the two witnesses who come to preach to the world. Why would two witnesses need to come and talk about Jesus when there will be billions of Christians still on the earth to also be spreading the word about Jesus. What is the point in them if not to proclaim to the people about Jesus if us crazy Christians are still here to join in. Joking about the crazy bit, it’s more of what I feel and think so not saying it’s absolute truth. It’s just something I’ve come to believe over time. And I don’t even attend church and have never spoken to others about the rapture. I’m just a follower of Christ and that is all. Bless you all.

I understand the two witnesses to be the Old and New testaments of the Bible, which will be rejected, maybe even banned in some countries thus appearing to be dead. Two mighty witnesses proclaiming truth. The question is, who will listen?
