6.6 magnitude earthquake strikes NW of Lake Toba super-volcano caldera

September 5, 2011 – N. Sumatra, INDONESIA – A strong, deep 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck just northwest of the Lake Toba super-volcano caldera. The epicenter of the earthquake was 100 km (62 miles) SW of Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia and 1409 km (875 miles) NW of JAKARTA, Java, Indonesia. This is the second major earthquake to strike near Lake Toba this year and clearly the most powerful. The earthquake also marks the 7th major earthquake to strike the globe in the first five days of the month of September. The process hastening these earth-changes have cleared hit a dramatic escalation point. –The Extinction Protocol
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — A powerful earthquake jolted the western Indonesian island of Sumatra, killing a 12-year-old boy and sending people streaming from their houses and hotels in panic. Hundreds of patients from at least one hospital had to be evacuated, some in wheelchairs or with infusion drips still attached to their arms. The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.6 –magnitude quake was centered 60 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of the city of Medan at a depth of 62 miles (110 kilometers). It was too far inland, however, to generate a tsunami. –AP

    As i said earlier today…the earth is getting us ready for something huge and these big quakes over the last week are mere warning signs for what is coming in the next few weeks…

    Midnight minus 1 second… Some are saying that during the last Solar maximum there was swarm of strong EQs like that… Wrong or Right… I don’t think so but honestly, I wasn’t checking them at that time. More and more USGS is missing a lot on their list…

    By the time I think I can step away from the computer for awhile, something else happens. And I had just finished going through all the rest of your articles posted since last night (U.S. East Coast time).

    Now, in your opinion Alvin, was this earthquake tied in to the Lake Toba super-volcano caldera or was this a separate entity due to tectonic plate movement.

    I was also just reading about the Toba catastrophe theory, of which I’m not sure I believe in. Although some anthropologists and archeologists believe it killed most humans then alive, others have debated that there is no evidence for any other animal decline or extinction. What is your opinion?

    You know, ever since I started reading your blogs, I’m finding out a lot of new information, oftentimes having to research what and where these things are happening. I now know where Vanuatu is (and was able to explain to someone else where it was and it’s previous name) and I now know more about Lake Toba. And it is true, one is never too old to learn. Thank you for helping me further my education.

      That’s good to hear Irene. I don’t think this is a volcanically induced quake, but there is a possibility it could be a means of volcanic activiation as seen from the rise in both volcanic and seismic activity around Indonesia. The quake was probably caused by the Sundra Trench, one of the deepest and most violent points in the Indian Ocean.

    Hi Alvin, I am amazed at these events taking place more often and especially a sharp rise in the past five days.Here in the UK there is rarely anything regarding seismic activity or earthquakes in any of our papers but only THE TIMES or GUARDIAN seems to be aware of anything that draws attention to the BRITISH MEDIA.What I am saying is that our media seems to treat these reports with minimum attention and only a 9.0 JAPAN earthquake hits the big time news.However, if we get a few very minor tremors like we had three weeks off the coast of Cornwall then everyone knows about it and yes, even the SUN readers.This Country seems so much to be inward looking and never sees the facts and dangers that are growing Globally.It were as if there were a news blackout.I despair.

      I agree with you HonkyTonk. Mainstream media says nothing about these events, and if I didn’t read Alvin’s site, I would never know a thing. It is amazing how many people do not know about what is really happening. Johnny is right – a big one is emminent, and soon. Blessings!

    Back online after a shallow M4.9 downgraded later to a M4, shook us far too close to home. Nobody injured but some slight damage to belongings & people are unsually wary. Power has been sporadic & just been able to reconnect to the net. Definitely unusual events happening near the Flinders Ranges in Australia. Scientists conducting tests up near Devil’s Peak now saying they are re-evaluating the entire area though not to be alarmed as the Ranges are a place of high seismic activity. I feel this will be part of the Australian fracture point in the future, as you walk you can feel the Earth humming or vibrating, it’s quite eerie. Seems to be alot stronger than usual also. Something is seriously out of whack here, almost as if Mother Earth is in suspended animation, just waiting, though about to go beserk. Things are unbalanced – they don’t feel in tune, something isn’t right here. Many people here are nauseated & I for one am suffering bouts of extreme vertigo.

      This is interesting thank you, I will look more in to this. I am over the other side in WA..under Toba which right now doesn’t settle my tummy! What you are saying about the nausea and vertigo is very common in Christchurch also, as well as other areas…keep us posted Pagan!

    Australia disregards the significance of the increase in seismic and volcanic activity too. Another VE 6 in the Equatorial air cell (like Pinatubo) would be a serious problem for the world because air from the stratosphere at the Equator eventually pollutes the mid-latitude weather cell. After the mega eruption of Tambora (1815) people in the USA reported being able to see sunspots with the naked eye because of SO2 and fine dust in the atmosphere.
    The northern population dense regions need to be stock-piling dry foods. It’s like the Biblical accounts of 7 years famine in Egypt but on a global scale.

    This is an expected earthquake along the Great Sumatran Fault. It’s not related to Toba. An event up tpo Mag 8 has been expected along the inland Sumatran fault since the 2004 great Aceh Quake and the Nias event in 2005.
    Stress has been placed on the Sumatran Fault. This may not be the largest event along here. Seismologists are expecting something larger.

    This quake has been predicted for a long period of time.
