Tons of radioactive water leaking from crippled Japanese nuclear power plant

June 28, 2011 JAPAN – Tons of radioactive water were discovered on Tuesday to have leaked into the ground from Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant, the latest in a series of leaks at the plant damaged in a March earthquake and tsunami, the country’s nuclear watchdog said. More than three months after the disaster, authorities are struggling to bring under control damaged reactors at the power plant, 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo. About 15 metric tons of water with a low level of radiation leaked from a storage tank at the plant on the Pacific coast, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said. Plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) said it was investigating the cause of the leak which was later repaired. Vast amounts of water contaminated with varying levels of radiation have accumulated in storage tanks at the plant after being used to cool reactors damaged when their original cooling systems were knocked out by the March 11 disaster. Dealing with that radioactive water has been a major problem for Tepco, which is trying to use a decontamination system that cleans water so it can be recycled to cool the reactors. But the system has encountered technical glitches and officials have said the water could spill into the Pacific Ocean unless the system was operating properly. The system was halted an hour and a half after it started on Monday because of a water leakage. Tepco fixed the problem and restarted the system on Tuesday afternoon, said Junichi Matsumoto, an official at the utility. –Reuters

This is a global disaster unfolding and my heart breaks for every living thing in the pathway of radioactive waters, air and land. In the US we have Nuke plants in danger of flooding and causing a similar disaster, yet the “news” is filled with mind-numbing chatter. I can’t tell you how many prayers I have sent up for you Alvin, for dealing with this painful reality everyday while other people are having a “life”. I am convinced that we are on a different frequency than so many others, and I do not say this in a superior or smug way. It is as if we are on AM and they are on FM and although some of us live side by side, we we are living in a parallel universe. They can’t hear us. Sometimes I think “ignorance is bliss” as I scurry around like the Little Red Hen, trying to make sure everything is planted, repaired, stored up, etc. while the rest of the world around me goes about their regular lives.
I give thanks to my Creator every day for the ability to see and hear what is happening and for my EP family that takes time to share their knowledge and information with the rest of us. I will send you news from our area, (western New York, USA) when I have it. We have been spared much of the disastrous weather so far, except for record-breaking amounts of rain that have kept all of us farmers from planting on schedule. Many of our roads, and bridges have been knocked out by flooding but there is never anything on the “news” about it. I have to drive around my neighborhood to find out what is happening.
Nya:weh skannon, (I honor you and I am thankful) Alvin and EP family, I will pray for the safety of your bodies, hearts, minds and especially your Spirits as you go about your days! With much love and respect, Melissa

This is becoming – and WILL become – a Huge issue, even bigger than it is now, as the radioactive contamination spreads. 😦

It seems to me, that the Japanese authorities and utilities, have lost control over the situation.
I am not saying this to point fingers, or to lay blame. This is a huge catastrophe, that would overtax and overextend any nation on earth.

At this point, the crisis is an INTERNATIONAL problem, not just a Japanese one.
It will take an International response, to help contain the radiation, and clean up.

I am wondering if there have been any updates regarding what happens next in this meltdown cycle? At one point I had heard of a cataclysmic event that had something to do with the material being so hot it would melt down into the earth and infect all with radiation??? Is this accurate? What is the update??

Wow, wonder what the creator thinks about this. All the lovely sea creatures that keep the oceans beautiful and alive. They also entrance us with God’s creation. What about them? Does anyone know …will this cause the ocean to turn black? It is not a coincidence that problems are developing with other nuclear plants now. Now is the time to have faith, belief in God..it is our only hope.
