May 23, 2011 – PARIS – Ash from an erupting Icelandic volcano could reach northern Scotland by Tuesday and parts of Britain, France and Spain by Thursday or Friday if the eruption continues at the same rate, airlines were warned on Sunday. The warning is based on latest 5-day weather forecasts, but must be treated with caution because of the forecast period and the presence of different air currents from those prevailing at the time of last year’s ash crisis, weather officials said. European authorities said on Sunday no disruption was expected to European or transatlantic airspace over the next 24 hours from the eruption of Iceland’s most active volcano on Saturday. –Jerusalem Post
The Extinction Protocol 
I just saw an article back in January 2011 when there were 50 earthquakes in Katla and that experts said it was close to eruption and also in March an article stated they feared it would be the next one to erupt but than this one did. Experts never really know do they until activity happens but I know Alvin your a knowledgeable guy and you understand this much more than me. Is it possible that it could also erupt? Katla I mean.

There are allmost 10 iceland volcanos in condition to blow anytime… all the calderas are full. I don’t know, but i suspect that this event will create a multiple volcano activity or short the activity intervals… there are harmonic tremors across the country… this is very unusual!

I think its certain if you look at history. If I lived anywhere in that area, especially Britain where so much commerce arrives by air, I’d be stashing food and supplies to the max.

Present day activityKatla has been showing signs of unrest since 1999, and geologists have concerns that it might erupt in the near future.[11] Particularly, monitoring has been intensified following the March 2010 eruptions of a smaller neighbouring volcano – Guðnasteinn – beneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier.[12] The eruption of this nearby long-dormant volcano in March and April 2010 prompted fears among some geophysicists that it might trigger an eruption at the larger and more dangerous Katla.[13][14][15] In the past 1,000 years, all three known eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull have triggered subsequent Katla eruptions.[16]
Following the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruptions, on 20 April 2010 Icelandic President Ólafur Grímsson said “the time for Katla to erupt is coming close … we [Iceland] have prepared … it is high time for European governments and airline authorities all over Europe and the world to start planning for the eventual Katla eruption”.[17]
Increased earthquake activity has been noticed on Katla since after the eruption at Eyjafjallajökull, but no other signs of an imminent eruption have been observed. These are located mainly in the northwestern rim of the caldera. On 9 October 2010, a sudden rise in harmonic tremor was observed in the stations around Katla, a sign of an impending eruption.[18]
As of June 2010, volcanologists are continuing to monitor Katla, aware that any eruption from Katla following an eruption from Eyjafjallajökull has historically occurred within months of an Eyjafjallajökull eruption. The Icelandic Meteorological Office updates its website with reports of quakes both at Eyjafjallajökull and Katla. [19]
