Powerful 6.5 magnitude earthquake strikes Cook Strait, New Zealand

NZ July 21
July 21, 2013WELLINGTON, NZ A 6.9-magnitude earthquake has struck New Zealand, rattling the capital Wellington and some other cities. The quake was later downgraded to a 6.5 by the USGS. The quake on Sunday hit 57km southwest of Wellington at a depth of 10.1km, the US Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of major damage and injuries after the earthquake but some water mains were broken, windows smashed and power lines downed. Wellington police inspector Marty Parker said there had been minor structural damage that had left parts of the city without power. No tsunami alert was issued. New Zealand’s GeoNet earthquake monitoring service described the 6.9 tremor which was felt widely as severe. “There was a rocking and rattling which lasted about 30 seconds,” a resident in the resort town of Nelson told the AFP news agency. It tremor was followed minutes later by another quake with a magnitude of 5.5 and came about 10 hours after a 5.8 tremor in the same region, which has been hit by multiple quakes in recent days. Recent quakes have been centered about 200km north of New Zealand’s second largest city Christchurch, where a 6.3-magnitude quake in February 2011 toppled buildings onto lunchtime crowds, leaving 185 people dead. The country sits on the so-called “Ring of Fire,” the boundary of the Australian and Pacific tectonic plates, and experiences up to 15,000 tremors a year. – Al Jazeera

Due to the fact that one quake followed the other by mere moments the rock n roll from the s waves went on for some minutes.”Scary”.
Meanwhile we’re (Southern NZ) into 50+ earthquakes today above 3 M.
    Interesting times indeed.

There was a 3.0 Eq. 3hr 39min after the 6.6Eq in New Zealand, located a 100 or so miles north of Sydney Au. It is not shown on the USG map but is on the GeoScience map of Australia. For some reason USG is not showing anything in AU, whereas GeoScience shows several small Eq. in Australia. Looks like tension was created to the west and then relieved with the 3.0 Eq.

Hi Alvin, it’s starting to be very clear in our area, people close to me are now listening to what I told them for years !!! I was watching the storm on radar and warned as much friends as I can, we had a Severe Storm Warning after a major Heatwave but nobody listened…

Hi Alvin, how are you brother? Well my good friend it certainly has become more seismically active lately. Between the 16th of July, 2013 and the 21st of July, 2013 in that 5 day period there have been no less than 4 MAJOR(6.0 and above) and GREAT(7.0 and above) earthquakes including this latest 6.5 magnitude quake in New Zealand yesterday. I actually think that we will see even more MAJOR quakes over the next 1-2 weeks. Do you think that that will be the case Alvin? It will be very interesting to see what happens anyway. Please reply A.S.A.P. Thanks very much my dear brother. God bless and all the very best for your future in life. Cheers!

Good. Hope all is well. Wayne, it certainly looks the planet is becoming more physically animated with not just earthquakes happening in none of the usual places, but very violent volcanic eruptions. Perhaps this is nature’s way of telling us an intensification in some geologic processes may be underway. We could be in for a busy and dramatic year, going forward from here.

      all the best,
      Alvin

Yes Alvin all is good my friend. Thanks for your response. Did you hear the latest reports about the twin quakes in China saying that more than 90 people are now dead and about 900 injured and thousands of houses either destroyed or damaged with many buildings as well. Also yesterday did you see that there was yet another MAJOR(6.0 and above) earthquake. This time it was a magnitude 6.1 in the Prince Edward Islands Region. What’s coming next? I believe over the next 1-2 weeks we will still see even further MAJOR and possibly GREAT(7.0 and above) earthquakes rock the planet. Are these your thoughts also? All the best my dear friend and God bless you ALWAYS. Cheers!!

Thanks, Wayne. Yes, I saw that. In many ways, we are in uncharted territory because the planet has so many interdependent systems and we don’t know how some of these systems (volcanic vents, faults and rifts, tectonic plates) will react when nudged to extremes. In the past, the geological record suggests the equilibrium of the planet was lost, and extinctive events of a horrific nature followed. If the planet is the early stages of an intensification of geologic processes reminiscent of the past, this could only be the beginning of more dramatic changes to yet unfold. Including very massive earthquakes striking in cascading fashion along subduction zones in many of the world’s most densely populated regions. Consequently, continental land masses could be affected by significant turbulence or movements of the tectonic plates. There is also some scientific credence in the data which suggests that just such a scenario may be one of the driving catalysts for the kinetic activation of supervolcanic systems.

        God bless,
        Alvin

On a different forum I asked (yesterday 21/7/13) whether this present N/Z quake swarm was normal and this is the reply from a nearby resident ………….. ‘Nah mate, its highly unusual, humbling as well,we’ve had in excess of 120 quakes, 3 Magnitude or better since the 6.5. The big one was followed 10’s of seconds later by another shake from a different fault, creating S waves that went on for around 3.00 minutes, like standing up in a dinghy.
    They just keep on coming’

As polar icecaps are melting at an ever increasing rate the mass of water is slowly going to the equator. Thus putting more pressure at the equator on fault lines, these then rupture and cause earthquakes that disturb fault lines elsewhere. The earth is adjusting to this extra pressure in a catastrophic and unstoppable series of events. The magnetosphere is also affected by the shifting tectonicc plates,
