They’re back: Unexplained ‘booming noises’ reported from South Carolina to California

January 9, 2013CALIFORNIA - The loud explosion that jolted North Hollywood on Tuesday night remained a mystery the next morning, authorities said. An officer at the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood station said police searched the area for a half an hour Tuesday night but had no luck in determining what caused the sound. The officer said police received numerous calls about the noise. At about 9:30 p.m., numerous people began tweeting about a loud explosion. Some thought it had come from a North Hollywood Metro station; others reported hearing an explosion in Studio City. “Mysterious explosion a few minutes ago. What’s going on? #LA” tweeted @ThatVitalSpark. “Seriously, any leads what the hell this boom was in North Hollywood? Im shook up a bit” tweeted @RajRawal37. A Reddit user posed the question: “What just blew up in North Hollywood?” By 10:30 p.m., there were more than 120 comments, but no crowd-sourced answer. However, possibilities ranging from alien invasions to meteors were proposed. –LA Times
Massachusetts mystery: Salem and Marblehead police officers searched the area of Ocean Avenue early Saturday morning for evidence of what could have caused the large boom that prompted residents across the area to call 911. According to Sunday morning’s Salem police log, At 1:34 a.m., police received multiple calls regarding a “loud bang” on Ocean Avenue. They were unable to locate the source. Many of our readers in Marblehead also reported hearing the sound, which has some town residents wondering whether or not it is coming from the harbor. This isn’t the first time we’ve written about mysterious explosion noises being reported in the area late at night. Theories offered so far have included youngsters with powerful fireworks, cannons from boats in the harbor, malfunctioning electrical transformers, UFOs and the shifting of tectonic plates under the city. –Marblehead Patch
South Carolina mystery: Residents of Red Bank in Lexington County appear to have gotten a loud awakening Thursday morning as multiple reports indicate a loud booming noise in the area. WIS News 10 viewers poured onto our Facebook page this morning to report the sound. “What was the horrific boom in the Redbank area,” asked Lisa Russell Fields. “People are saying it sounded like a plane crash or explosion. I also heard the ‘big boom’ this morning. So did a lot of other people, it sounds like a close cannon or something and will shake the whole building/house,” said Jennifer Lee Stokes Kleine. “Does anyone have a concrete explanation for the loud boom that shook houses in Lexington County around the Redbank/YMCA/Old Barnwell Road area this morning around 8:30 a.m.,” said Mary Frances Henry Bell. So, what was it? The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department doesn’t know either. “Law enforcement officers and public safety personnel have been unable so far to determine the source of the noise,” said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Maj. John Allard. “No explosions have been reported.” A similarly loud explosive noise happened last year in the South Congaree portion of Lexington County. Residents reported then being woken up to the boom around 8 a.m. on a Sunday. Seismographs at the University of South Carolina even measured something in the area. However, there was never a determined cause for that loud noise either. -WISTV
Salt Lake City mystery: Hundreds of people from Weber County to Utah County, and some as far north as Rock Springs, Wyoming reported that they felt shaking or heard loud booms Tuesday night around 9 p.m. The FOX 13 Newsroom received several calls from concerned citizens about the phenomena shortly after 9 p.m., but the cause remains a mystery. Representatives for the University of Utah’s Seismograph stations said there was not an earthquake, ATK said they were not conducting any rocket tests, the Utah National Guard said they were not conducting any weapons or artillery training and Hill Air Force Base said they did not have any planes in the air after 6 p.m. A map of earthquakes over the last day shows no activity in Northern Utah, or anywhere in the state. The closest quake was a relatively small 2.6 magnitude near Bishop, Calif., more than 500 miles from Salt Lake City. The equipment at the University of Utah Seismograph stations did, however, record “sonic activity” at the time people said they were hearing the booms, but the cause of the sonic activity has not been identified. There is also a theory that the heavy inversion layer may have amplified a blast on the ground or in the air, making it seem closer and louder than reality. While that is possible, it is still unclear what caused the noise. –Fox 13

The statements, “Seismographs at the University of South Carolina even measured something in the area,” and “University of Utah Seismograph stations did, however, record ‘sonic activity’ at the time people said they were hearing the booms” are anomalies, are they not? It seems to be a peculiar commonality that the majority of these reports, whether submitted by ten people or a hundred, receive no corroboration from science, which (without saying it) makes the claims that “houses shook” and “windows rattled” sound like exaggeration (or just crazy). It seems rather subversive and contradictory, like an unspoken, “Well. . . you know. . .regardless of what the civilians think and are telling the 911 operators, OUR robots-and-gizmos did not register a single thing. . . .” So, are “they” finally being honest about this, or are these “booms” of unusual severity? Just wond’rin’.

As someone who was able to follow your comment and who wasn’t lost at the big word seismographs, well I concur. And I think yours so far is the only one to raise the most obvious upfront thing that needs to be asked first. So you’re wondering why every report so far has said that there were no earthquakes and was no seismic activity.. but then after hundreds of incidences two universities report seismic vibrations. Yet no one has asked any questions about it. Yeah that’s really odd.

So you’re wondering at the end if The Uni of South Carolina and like University of Utah are finally being honest about this, about the booms registering at their stations.. while in the past officials from official places were lying?

I think from a large enough soundwave with a high enough amplitude you could shake the ground enough to register on a station a couple miles away. But also, I am seriously wondering whether or not there’s either aliens in the earth trying to cause some sort of huge earthquake sink hole fault slip plate teeter tottering and dip Appalachia into the ocean.

Here’s an assumption. It may as well be an UFO alien of some sort coming to Earth. Unable to recognize the planet, it uses some kind of planetary sonar to map large portions of the earth. thus causes the loud booms.

Very Intersting to say the least.. Hollywood had seismic activity recently if I’m not mistaken .. I was impressed at the time that I had not heard of activity in that area before. I live in Garden Grove Calif. and I have been feeling what I call bumbles. Bumbles are unexplained vibration/jiggles. They are not felt by most and there has been an uptick in popping noises in certain areas around the house and property. The increase in activity across the states (small events) indicates that something is on the move. I find it interesting that the Canary Islands swarm just so happened to be right in the middle of the Cali seismic upswing this past summer (reference 1971 volcanic activity and sylmar quake) however there’s a bit more going on this time in terms of activity. I always get this feeling that the Pacific Northwest will go off at the same time as the New Madrid … and something will happen in the Canary Islands and … well nothing is safe … but all these events are possible …

Sometimes booms such as these don’t emanate from beneath our feet. They can sometimes be in our atmosphere (atmospheric ‘booms’). Once, I had a ‘boom’ of this sort go ‘off’ above me, and I felt a kind of ‘pressure’ bearing down on me as well. Another time, above us again, we heard a noise (hum) similar to having the amp being turned up louder and louder, then suddenly stopping. Sounds weird yes – sounds like science fiction maybe, but these things definitely happened. Query/unscientific brainstorming? – Electro-magnetic, or sound-pulses, or gases, or friction releases, or solar activity or what else I wonder?
I, like many, have also observed the booms emanating from meteor showers, as these space rocks hit our atmosphere. The difference with this kind of boom, is that you can see where it is coming from and what created such.
    Peace all ;)

There is a video on the website strange sounds.org that I stumbled upon that I wanted to link to this posting. It is titled Terrifying Video of The Mysterious Booms in Indianapolis, USA January 7, 2013. It is quite eerie and the sound is definitely reminiscent of previous ones recorded in various places that have experienced the mystery booms and sounds. Apparently, the third boom that occurred shook the man’s house so hard it cracked a window… We are definitely living in interesting times!

Can somebody please tell me what this is?

This was in the news yesterday here in my country (Honduras). Apparently, it happened the 29th of December/2012 near the city of Tela. Also, some people claim to have seen it but were in other cities (approximately 100 kms far away from Tela or even more). People say it might be space material which was destroyed, but I don’t think so; it looks more like a comet or asteroid to me.

P.S. Thank you for keeping us updated with events that are rarely seen in the news.

Dec 21st 2012 has passed, it’ll be nice not to have to read any comments on that subject anymore as to the “cause” of these booming noises world wide.

I still say it’s the usual cyclical magnetic pole shift destabilization causing sections of the crust to resonate in different ways. 1. Booms. 2. Hums and/or drone sounds (often also associated with a flash of light as it stops, which is a discharge of energy).

Keep up the good work, Ex. P. (&beyond).

Of the three reports in this posting, only the Utah report makes any reference to ground shaking.
There are references are made to sonic sounds.
I have read reports although I do not know how to properly explain it, about Atmosphere collapse?
Looking at the sky, you would not know that there were pockets of air or if you have ever rode in a plane, on a perfectly blue day, you can encounter unstable air. I have ridden in planes during unstable weather that it felt like I was riding over speed bumps.
Well, you never know for sure, but there no reports of any new land fissures, cracks…..
For sure, something is happening and the real evidence could be above our heads……….

well the sounds dont travel over 15 miles because I live/work about 15 miles from troy, MI and havnt heard or felt anything here.

We do live near the oakland/pontiac airport flight paths and every now and then we’ll hear planes and such and I always stop to listen if something sounds off (worrying about a plane crashing on us) and havnt noticed anything strange around here.

I still think the noises people hear are from someone building an underground secret bunker.
I think there is a sense of urgency from the builders and they are less concerned about people hearing the noises and more concerned about finishing it before the “EVENT”.

The boom or explosion happened outside my window in North Hollywood. I was getting ready for bed and saw a white flash outside my window. Then half a second later heard the boom. I looked outside and saw a small low quick moving east a hundred yards from my window. I thought someone shot an illegal firework near my place. I heard the Polk e helicopters buzz around 2 times the took off. I didn’t think much about it.

Last night (01/21/2013) on Annette island in Alaska we heard a big boom sound at 8:30pm. No one knows what it is, cops were flying around town after it was heard. Our dog was whinning before it went off and a friend on the other side of town says he saw a flash from inside his home while his lights were off and heard a loud boom. My sister inlaw on the out skirts of town heard the loud boom too, and it shook their home. It’s still unknown what could have caused this.

Is there a correlation between the booms being on or near the US coastlines of waterways (to include the Mississippi River)? Compare it to the Navy/Cayce prophetic maps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGem7nm_PyI
Could the gov’t induced mass drownings of millions of folks along highly populated coastal areas be on certain UN agendas? I do not know the answers just wondering if this was explored yet or not. It is always easier to blame mother nature and/or work in concert with her. Again – I am not be accusatory or sensationalizing….just wondering if others have investigated this possible correlation.

Loud booms and earth shaking happened over several days in North Central Kansas earlier this month. No explanation as of yet even though state officials have been investigating for over a week. There are 3 abandoned coal mines in the area, but all were checked and deemed to not be the cause. Also, USGS says no seismic activity in the area, yet even houses shook and things inside homes were knocked over.

I have something to add to this. I was discussing this booming thing with my Dad I live in Bakersfield California and he said that he heard a booming/pressure wave noise. Not earthshaking. He said my step sister heard it too so it wasn’t just him. I live in the same city also but have not heard anything. It was fairly recent. Other people apparently had this same experience and the police were contacted about it. It was never put on the news obviously so people just write it off. I however have noticed at times pressure waves. It would shake our sliding glass door and the dogs would go nuts. It could be that the spiritual warfare going on around us is manifesting in this way with all these shockwaves. and to the above comments about the U.N they have a statue of a harlot riding a bull outside of their building. Does this make you think of revelations. Check out John Benefiel author of Binding the Strongman over America.

We tend to think of energy from the sun coming in waves or jets, but consider that light is both particle and wave – think of some forms of hail, a conglomeration of accumulated ice pellets (not single-pellet hail, which is continually re-frozen with layers of ice added each time the sphere heads upward in the updraft.) The sun also has a decent amount of antimatter (not just a sci-fi phemonemon, and it’s been seen at the top of thunderstorms.) If it were antimatter exploding in the upper atmosphere, then an energy signature would be seen (gamma ray radiation.)

One way to check that would be to time the Fermi gamma ray space telescope with the reported sounds. Maybe they’d coincide, maybe they wouldn’t. In any case, the sun may be throwing off energetic debris, and what we’re hearing is it striking the atmosphere. ELF wouldn’t neccessarily be heard, and would be diffuse, but something high enough to be concentrated?

Dec. 20th, 2013 in the west Phoenix, AZ area, the earth humming noise was very loud to me. It actually was hurting my head. I noticed it after dusk. I’ve noticed it on other occasions, but this was intense. I felt a strong vibration last night on the 22nd, looked at the usgs quake map and there was a red blip in Montana near Yellowstone. When quakes occur near san andreas fault I feel them here. Same with Mexico, Japan, and Utah. I check usgs map and the quake happened within the hour. Faults must run from my location throughout the globe. The earth vibration is definitely building up lately. Maybe the Mayan prediction was a year off in estimates.

I never thought much of it because supposedly I was told it was someone hitting the transformer really hard outside my house. I had no clue this noise has been heard by the masses from all over the united states. I’m afraid if it is the indication of an earthquake all the fault zones might go at once. In the bible it talks about a gigantic world wide earthquake and this might be the signs of this event to come. It makes sure to specify we will not know the time or day when it occurs but it doesn’t say anything about trying to figure out an estimate of when the event may occur… God and Jesus bless you all

Two large boom/shakes in North San Diego County and Southern Orange County today at ~9:35 AM. No one is talking though the Twitter traffic is busy. Felt like an earthquake to me but no reports of any locally. Dogs pensive for an hour before then two quick thud booms in rapid succession shook my home to the foundation. I blame Menehunes.

My family has been hearing these sounds for the past couple of weeks now in Zebulon, NC. At first, it was small and just sounded like a thump on the porch, but after investigating there was no reason for the thump. We just forgot about the incident. Last night, however, there were several very loud booms. Our elderly neighbor came out of her house wondering if we had felt/heard them too. She said it had knocked pictures off of her walls because it had shook so bad. The strange booms came again this morning so we decided to do some research. There is no explanation that fits with the sound too perfectly. Anyways, I just thought I would document the incident on this website.. maybe with enough people saying something, there will be some investigation. I do find it interesting, though, that there are rarely news coverings on it and it seems that a lot of forums and articles (like the wikipedia article above) get deleted. Sketch.

I just heard a really big explosive here in the Bay Area and no it was not fireworks or guns shots it started today at 435am around there. Wife says it can be thunder afther that water started to pour like for 2mn not even long. Could be thunder, meteor or maybe a explosion of something. Whatever it was it’s not usual to hear this loud noise like something coming with a humm loud noise and explode…

my wife and I were driving from Atlanta Georgia yesterday to Chattanooga it was about 10 o’clock at night. When the sky lit up like a nuclear bomb had gone off. I happened to be on my cell phone at the time. And my phone totally froze up. I have a 700 dollar galaxy s4 its brand new. So I grabbed my wife’s it is the same. Her phone also froze. Seems like an electric magnetic pulse had gone off caused by a large explosion in the atmosphere. Only two kinds of bombs that can do that nucular and anatomic. maybe not in our atmosphere but in space. Would explain the loud booms going on across country. and don’t expect an explanation. 100 years ago we did not have cell phone satellites fiber optics. It didn’t just come out of nowhere. What we all know but won’t have this information disclosed to us. Don’t expect a real explanation.

  57. Indianapolis, Indiana. We just had an impressive storm system roll across Indianapolis. The textbook example of a thunder storm. The sound we’ve grown accustom to from a child and into adulthood. What I just heard at the very end of that storm system was no thunderstorm. It has shaken me inside and all I wanted to do was run. Just (and I mean absolutely, change of the air and it’s humidity, lessening of all parts of the storm) so, Just as the system has nearly 95% cleared and moved South East where it was very visible. A series of frightening and complex booms that I can only describe as explosions moved on a North to South heading and was heard for between 10 to 15 seconds. No visual lightening had occurred that could have matched the intensity and ferocity of that sound. My girlfriend and I have heard this sound previously a year ago (I’m trying to find the date) I am just as equally shaken from this experience as I was the last one. Last year though, I thought it was either a fireworks factory exploding (I remember it was close to July), a war had begun, or something awful had just occurred to a lot of people. The last time it wasn’t storming and it’s wasn’t raining. I never found an answer then. I will keep trying.

I live in Southern California near mission viejo, I live in a canyons away form the city I have been hearing thumping sounds and vibrations and booms over the last two years, Although this is earthquake zone there is not enough seismic activity recorded, it’s just bizarre, me and my husband hear it during the night and sometimes during the day, so I am not imagining this.wonder if someone is investigating these……..something does not feel right !!
