Temperatures continue to simmer under New Zealand volcano

November 29, 2012NEW ZEALANDVulcanologists are continuing to play a waiting game with Mount Ruapehu. A two kilometer exclusion zone is in place around the peak of the volcano, as temperatures remain high underneath its crater lake. GNS Duty Volcanologist Dr. Brad Scott, says those high temperatures haven’t yet made it to the surface. “Our gas and water sampling from last week has indicated we’ve continued to have high temperatures in the geothermal system under the lake. Those have no been reflected into the lake, hence we have this anomaly between hot geothermal system and cold lake.” –News Talk ZB
