Solar activity increases- magnetosphere displays more chaotic patterns

February 9, 2011 – Sunspots have increased on the solar surface and according to Space Weather, solar activity is heating up. Formerly quiet sunspot 1153 is suddenly crackling with C- and M-class solar flares. NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded this eruption during the waning hours of Feb. 8th. Because sunspot 1153 is rounding the sun’s western horizon, these eruptions are not Earth-directed. They are, however, Venus-directed. The second planet from the sun could receive glancing blows from solar plasma clouds in the days ahead. –Space Weather

I realize we have been doing the “cry wolf” thing since Y2k, which was actually quite a bit of $$$$. But when is the general public going to realize what can happen if an X, or even a strong M class flare hits our planet. It’s such a reality, yet no media coverage. I don’t get it. Its really a matter of when, not if? Correct?

    • Scott,

It is only a matter of when. The day a CME slams into the planet and short-circuits everything that has electrical and electronic circuitry that hasn’t been hardened or is in a Faraday cage will be the day the planet reverts back to the Stone Age. It would be a multi-trillion dollar disaster and could take the world 3 to 5 years, if not longer to fully recover. The problem is it takes inordinate amounts of electricity to rebuild electrical components.

Great site. Patrick Geryl is looking correct with his predictions at the moment which is scary. The sun is about to wake up I think and cause big problems for us on planet earth.

Good point about the lack of media coverage………maybe people are suffering from too much overload. I think this will only be a matter of time.
