6.7 magnitude earthquake strikes India’s northeast, leaves 11 dead

India Quake 6
January 2016INDIA A 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit India’s remote northeast region before dawn on Monday, killing at least 11 people, injuring 200 others and causing damage to several buildings. The death and injuries were caused by falling debris in and around Imphal, the capital of Manipur state, police said. The powerful tremor left large cracks in walls and a portion of a popular market building collapsed in the state capital. A newly constructed six-story building also collapsed in Imphal, the police control room said. India’s Meteorological Department said the epicenter of the quake was in Tamenglong region of Manipur state. It struck before dawn on Monday at a depth of 17 kilometers (about 10 miles) in the India-Myanmar border region.
The epicenter of the earthquake was 35 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of Imphal. The area is remote with poor cell phone and Internet connections, and information about conditions outside of major cities may take time to emerge. People panicked and rushed out of their homes in Gauhati, the capital of neighboring Assam state, as they felt massive shaking at least twice within 60 seconds. In Imphal, residents said furniture was knocked over and books fell off shelves. “The ground swayed for almost a minute, jolting people awake in their homes,” said one resident, Apem Arthur. The area is dotted with small houses. There are few tall buildings in the region, she said. The tremors were also felt in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state. –ABC News

ps, alvin- have you seen this report?

“…since 1997, Earth’s oceans have absorbed man-made heat energy equivalent to a Hiroshima-style bomb being exploded every second for 75 straight years. …Most of the added heat has been trapped in the upper 2,300 feet, but with every year the deeper oceans also are absorbing more energy, they said.
“But the study’s authors and outside experts say it’s not the raw numbers that bother them. It’s how fast those numbers are increasing.
“After 2000 in particular the rate of change is really starting to ramp up,” Durack said.
This means the amount of energy being trapped in Earth’s climate system as a whole is accelerating, the study’s lead author Peter Gleckler, a climate scientist at Lawrence Livermore, said. …
“Jeff Severinghaus at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography praised the study, saying it “provides real, hard evidence that humans are dramatically heating the planet.”

  5. Writing another book? Well the IP is getting ready to close down the Utopia website. So … hoping you are well and quite engaged on your next project. Meanwhile check the prophecies. This October could be the doozy awaited for two millennia! Bless you and know you’re missed.

    • It seems like I’m always writing. Thanks Ken for the heads up on the website.

Missed everyone here, too. I’ll look into October.

BTW, we don’t have much time left before the we’re in a full-blown global crisis. Everything is rapidly intensifying.

Alvin, are you doing okay? There haven’t been any new posts since January and that just seems odd. I hope all is well with you. I check this site daily and it would be a great loss if it wasn’t around any more 😦
