Russia declares state of emergency as hundreds of wildfires rage across northern interior

June 21, 2012 RUSSIARussia has declared a state of emergency in several eastern regions due to hundreds of wildfires. NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image of fires and smoke in north central Russia on June 15, 2012, at 05:50 UTC (1:50 a.m. EDT) The red spots are where the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument that flies aboard the Terra satellite detected heat signatures. Dry conditions, agricultural burning, lightning and human involvement have contributed to many wildfires across Siberia over the last few weeks. –NASA

    Alvin,

Some interesting info coming out of Colorado about a meteor grounding flights and being classified as extreme. Any information on this?

There are several fires burning in Colorado, including the High Park fire west of Fort Collins. West of Colorado Springs, in the Woodland Park area, there is an arsonist at work. 11 (eleven) fires have been set by him/them within the past couple of days. Thank God, all were put out quickly. The whole state is tinder dry and full of beetle-killed dead trees and dry grasses.
