Could Earth be impacted by large asteroid February 15-16, 2013?

March 4, 2012 SPACEScientists are predicting that the asteroid 2012 DA14 has a good chance of colliding with earth in eleven months. Watch the skies in February 2013! According to RT, NASA has confirmed that the 60 meter (or 197 feet) asteroid, which was spotted by Spanish stargazers in February this year, has a good chance of colliding with earth. The scientists suggest confronting this asteroid with either big guns or, more strangely, with paint. The problem with either option is that there is no time to build a spaceship for the operation. A spaceship could either shoot the asteroid down or simply crash into it – this would either break it into pieces or throw it off course. NASA expert David Dunham suggested: “We could paint it.” The paint would change the asteroid’s ability to reflect sunlight, alter its spin and change its temperature. However, even taking the asteroid off course could be dangerous when it returns in 2056, according to Aleksandr Devaytkin the head of the observatory in Russia’s Pulkovo, as told to Izvestia in Russia recently. The asteroid’s closest approach to earth is scheduled for 15 February 2013, when they predict that the distance between it and earth will be under 27,000 km (16,700 miles). With the asteroid zooming that low, it will be too late to do anything with it besides trying to predict its final destination and the consequences of impact. However, NASA’s David Dunham did say: “The asteroid may split into pieces entering the atmosphere. In this case, most parts of it will never reach the planet’s surface.” But theories are that if the entire asteroid did crash into the planet, the impact will be as hard as in the Tunguska blast, which in 1908 knocked down trees over a total area of 2,150 sq km (830 sq miles) in Siberia. So keep your head down and watch the skies. –Digital Journal
As you can see, the Earth distance of object 2012 DA14 on the JPL chart approaches 16,700 miles on February 16, 2013, where the question of gravity accretion could be an issue depending on the trajectory path of the asteroid. It could also be a miss. The A.M. or Apparent Magnitude scale puts the object’s brightness at 24.4 H, which would make it a little brighter than Pluto’s moon, Nix, which means it would not be highly visible to the naked eye until it entered Earth’s atmosphere. -The Extinction Protocol
Earth’s gravity: Earth could capture an asteroid, but only under certain conditions. The asteroid would have to be a certain size, traveling at just the right speed, and grazing by Earth at just the right angle. For example, a bus-sized asteroid grazing Earth’s atmosphere might be captured by our planet’s gravity. Afterward, moon’s gravity might pull it into a stable orbit above Earth – to give Earth a second moon. Planetary scientists believe that asteroid capture was common billions of years ago. The planets are thought to have formed by a process of “accretion” – where small chunks of debris came together to form larger chunks. So there were lots more chunks – what we now call “asteroids” – moving through the solar system back then. –Earth-Sky

the one in 2013 is only a pebble a nuke can take of it.the one in november is get this kids 87 years to my like 20 nukes no prob. the one in 2040 is only a pebble. now lets play with the won in 2034 again no prob not too big. so dont worry its only aflyby ill get it in the year 2100.

  2. This assumes we get past 12/21/12. Which I believe we will-in some form!

The Mayan Calendar didn’t take into account leap year, which was created in 45 B.C

      • Ian Merrel says:

Leap year was created to keep seasons in sync, and was a completely different calendar than the Mayans. The Mayan calendar just kept track of the days since the Mayan religion was created. Leap year isn’t a factor.

      • Timmy says:

Well, the leap year is bullsh*t to the Mayans they knew whats coming at the beginning
        of this year

Check out the date of my post… Yup, we made it.

“Earth will likely be impacted by large asteroid February 15-16, 2013″

How much clearer does God’s prophetic Word need to become??? WE ARE AT THE END OF THE AGE!

It appears that we have 11 months until “a great mountain, burning with fire” is “thrown into the sea”.

Revelation 8:8 Then the second angel sounded: And something like A GREAT MOUNTAIN BURNING WITH FIRE was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood.

    • Steve P says:

Ms. McCray, do you simply just believe everything? Belief is not fact. Doomsday will or won’t come and it will or won’t in its own time. Having an open mind doesn’t mean you should make it a repository for horse sh–. You would be a calmer individual if you simply started living and not clutching on to every silly thing that justified what you believe. Why do some of the worshipers of a loving god, drool so lustily at the though of a smiting?

      • Christi says:

Touche’. Steve, you are so my hero. I had to read your reply to my husband cause it pertained to him, also. He was one of these believers of the 12/21/12 doomsday. Now, he’s starting to think about this asteroid in a destructive way. I try to calm his nerves about it. But, he’s insistent that our doomsday is near. (How many times in my 44 years of life have I heard that the end is near…? And, how many times was it that my father had told me that he also has heard it…?) PEOPLE, WE JUST REALLY DON’T KNOW AND WE AREN’T MEANT TO KNOW! DEAL WITH IT AND ENJOY YOU LIVES.

      • Susie says:

” do you simply just believe everything? Belief is not fact” What an excellent statement.
“You would be a calmer individual if you simply started living and not clutching on to every silly thing that justified what you believe” Excellent statement number 2.
I think so many cling to chaos subconsciously. Their belief system allows them to believe that they have knowledge that makes them superior therefore should something happen to them, they will be in a “better place”.

you are so right it says some thing like this People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all think about it we are so much like it today with our goverment saying that these lesbos and gays are our brothers and sisters i dont think so i think we should send them to ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. steve says:

well 12/21/12 could be wrong by 56 days it done 3,000 years ago

  5. Marshallrn says:

The reality of this can be much worse than anything 12/21/12 has to offer at the moment!

    • Ron Willison says:

Not wishing to be overly dramatic. I’ve done some serious research into the 2012-02=15 2012 DA14 potential for Earth impact and the fact that the best JPL has right now for trajectory confidence level is around 50 percent. I went to a couple of University’s that are working on the final orbit solution, and they say that they only have around a 20 minute window to get better telemetry on this thing and. Arecibo just may miss the window because it moves so slow. One more thing. If you use the JPL applet to render the current info on this rock. Change the settings to HOUR instead of DAY. It gets inside of 15,000 miles when it comes by. If we are lucky and it does get by. I hope NASA and the JPL folks will give us honest new data. This thing has a 366. and change day orbit and that will give us one year to deal with it. .Peace and I wish all a great new year.

  7. MalachiYAH says:

Well peoples…. Can we say Wormwood? Or Katchina? So… Lets see… The largest massive solar flare ever comprehended erupts from the sun and directly hits the earth around 12-21-12… Not only does completely cripple our electrical systems (all of them and everything that is associated with electricity [yes this includes nuclear power plants and there cooling systems, and brocasting systems]) but inturn also causes the megnetosphere to be so abruptly shifted and disrupted to the degree that it affects the earths magnetically aligned core causing the already unstable shifting poles to suddenly shift dramatically which causes the liquification of the earths crust. When that happen then we will see earthquakes everyday that put the one in Japan to shame; also causing all the dormant valcanoes to come alive includeing supermassive valconoes. Well… as if that isn’t enough… a couple months later we get hit with an asteroid…. What will happen if it hits an area that is already weakened by the liquification of the earth crust? Can anyone please tell me?

  8. radiogirl says:

I suppose this is one in a number events that following Bible prophecy I have been expecting to see come to fruition. The question is..how many more of these space threats are we likely to find from here on out.Hope we can all get out of its way when and if it makes it to earth.Love,R

    • I
Asteroid debris fields in the inner solar system

I think this is only the beginning of the raining down of ‘debris threats from space.’ We live in a space junk yard of asteroids, dark comets, meteorites and comets. Nobody’s luck lasts forever and Earth has been beyond lucky thus far.

“Men’s hearts failing them for fear for looking after those things which are coming on the Earth; for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” Luke 21:26

And when the tree is shaken; the figs will fall

      • cdkanas says:

I would agree and would add, it’s not by luck that the earth has been spared, but rather by God’s protection. God has foretold of allowing his protection to cease do to the wickedness of man. Now, we are beginning to witness that lack of protection which will get worse as Christ’s coming gets nearer.

      • Well, that’s the next obvious leap in logic without spelling it out to anybody. That’s too much luck to be luck but ‘let everyman be fully persuaded in his own mind’ as Paul said. (Romans 14:5)

    • MalachiYAH says:

Alvin I wonder if planetary alignments, which increase the magnitude of gravitional pull along that alignment line, has enough force to dislodge asteroids from the outer asteroid belt?

    • The Hunter says:

I dont think that you should project your faith on to things like this; it’s a matter of science here, proven fact, not of any diety which may or may not exist. We cant rely on prophecy; often, such things are very vague and suit a number of interpretations and scenarios.

I feel that we need to focus on the predictions and works published by professionals who understand the laws of physics we have formulated, based on thousands of year’s worth of research and scientific discovery, rather than the murky words of a tome dealing more with the morality of man than man’s inevitable fate.

      • Irene C says:

I respectfully disagree with you. I have no dislike of science, many fine discoveries have been made, however, during these times of turbulence, we do rely on our faith. Personally, I and many others on here, believe in Biblical prophecy. We also have many other faiths on here, and we do our best to be respectful of each other. With your “focus on the predictions and works published by professionals who understand the laws of physics”, you are also showing your “faith” in these people. We all see the happenings of what is going on around us through our own worldview. But I do appreciate your comment and look forward to hearing more on your ideas of these laws of physics and how you see them applying with these situations.

    • What the article failed to note is if it’s below Earth’s satellites, it’s within Earth’s gravity, as are the satellites in geosynchronous orbit, and therefore there is the possibility of accretion due to Earth’s SOI. It’s really left up to these two bodies to hash it out.

      • jakb1782 says:

Well not sure what “doomsday” event will be next but good luck with all your scientific and biblical research. We survived 12/21/12 and also the asteroid that wiped out all of humanity. At least you will have another worldwide conspiracy theorist catastrophe that will wipe us all out again here in another few months, and i will have more sites all the same to troll while I’m bored.

      • Well, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you’re falling down on the job. Had you been an effective ‘troller‘ you would have known, I never said the world would either end on December 21, 2012 or to expect an incident that day. Secondly; fact check: According to geologists, there were no humanids living on the planet during the Cretaceous extinction during the Chicxulub asteroid impact, which wiped out the dinosaurs 70 million years ago. Primitive apes did not appear until the Eocene period (37-58 million yrs BP) some 40 million years later, and humanoids supposedly appeared eons later. So no, according to science, humans have never survived a major asteroid impact, which is why scientist stay awake at night trying to invent ways to prevent these rocks from impacting the planet.

        Rest well, and happy trolling.

  9. The 6.0E-4 is scientific notation. which is actually. 0.0006 AU.

    Given Data from site:
    Feb. 15, 2013 at 00:25 (12:25 am), Distance 0.000181069371133235 AU or 16,832 miles

This is within Mid Earth Orbit which is where GPS satellites are. So based on the mass and make up of the asteroid will determine what it will do. Could just pass on by. But more then likely it will get caught up in our gravity and be pulled in, in which case it could just burn up, or break up into several pieces, or just the whole thing impacts, in which case it will be like a nuclear bomb going off taking out and area at least 830 sq miles.

Best advise: prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

and thanks for the info, it helps a lot of people out.

  10. Mary says:

Something else to add to the long list of worries, I guess.

    • Earth is a big planet, in terms of debris hitting it, and it has gravity and mass. The solar system is littered with a mind-boggling amount of debris. The only surprise is, Earth has been luck enough to avoid a large collision this long.

  11. RainMan says:

Sarcasm, one piece hits Wall St, another hits the Iranian nuke facility, another the Greek parliment building, problem solved.
On a serious note, if it doesn’t break up and most likely hits the ocean, let alone a land mass, what devastation will that cause, the tsunami would be catastrophic. Not good.

hmmm.. a torino scale value of 0( 0% chance of impact ), Palermo scale of -4.67. Miss distance of 16700 miles..MISS distance not impact. Trajectory of 2011 MD – 7,800 miles near miss in June 27, 2011

Well, it’s been 2 in 2 years. That was a larger passby that was a miss but the trajectory was also different. We will have to wait and see what happens. Even if there is a potential impact….there’s a 70% chance it would impact the ocean. Nobody should lose any sleep over this. There are threats we know and always surprises that can sneak up on us. That’s the nature of the hostile space environment we inhabit.

Do you remember when the National Hurricane Center says…….do not focus on the position of the center of the storm? Then they say, Projections to the path of this storm have large margins of error more than 5 days out.
Ok, So here we are 10-23-12. Since March 2012 a few weeks after the first discovery of this object, it was ESTIMATED that it would be approximately just over 16,000 miles from the Earth.
Now here we are just shy of 9 months since then……and now the ” ESTIMATE” ………is…….(drum roll please)….just over NINE THOUSAND MILES from earth on its passby.
OK please do the math now…….declination of over ….(another drum roll)………7,000 miles in 9 months.
Now if this trends continues………we have 3 and a half months left…..Get away from LARGE BODIES OF WATER ~
You will need a full tank of gas, leave BEFORE THE EVENT BY A DAY OR TWO OR MORE! If it is going to hit then you will have only hours warning probably not days !
Do NOT depend on the government to warn you in time. This could disrupt the world economy and that comes before human life as far as World Governments go. Remember this! ~

  17. Irene C says:

Well, I’m not going to lose any sleep about it, but it will be interesting to keep an eye on. I figure, with Iran’s nukes, increased volcanoes and earthquakes, strange weather phenomina; we may not be here by then. (Sarc – maybe)

As for our troll: Jon, one of these days, we “Tin Hatters” just may be right about something. I would suggest you get out of your momma’s basement and check out what’s happening in the real world.

That being said, thanks for the info Alvin. I may not be able to post comments as much as I did before, but I’m still reading and passing this information out to others.

how would u paint a astroid travling through space and why cant it just be destroyed by a nuclear rocket?

  19. toni says:

6.0E-4 would be 89,758KM… 16000 miles would be 2.0E-4. One of these numbers is wrong. Either it’s distance will be 6.0E-4, or 16700 miles. 0.0E-4 is impact. 1.0E is 14,960Km distant, the higher the number goes up, the distance increases by 14,960Km. 8.0E-4 would be 119,678Km. each increment is 10,000 miles. it is the scale used once it gets within 100,000 miles of Earth.

  20. Debbie says:

I agree with John. There are too many other important things in life we should be more concerned about then when (or whether) Mother Gaia will be oblitereated by rogue asteroids.

  21. Paula says:

We do appreciate this site Alvin. It seems to be hard for some people to actually comprehend the wide range of challenges we face; they would rather just follow the mainstream culture of sarcasm, profanity, and denial than look at science, astronomy, geology, and prophecy. Least of all do they want to look into their own hearts and realize it is long past time to change for the good. Thanks to everyone who is trying to better this planet and to all of you.
    Paula

    • Agreed. Our destiny is ‘uniquely‘ our own and as I always say, if we don’t like the news in the world, than give me something better to report by doing your part to make it a better place and not by complaining. Challenges or opportunites…how will history judge us in reaction to the changing difficult circumstance and adversities laid on our doorstep? Out of the Dark Ages came the Renaisance and modern Europe was built on the ashes of an eastern Europe in ruins from World War II.

Thanks for the note Paula –

  23. There has been about 514 Leap years since Caesar created them in 45BC – without the extra day every 4 years it would now be July something 2013 … As a side note … the Mayan calender did not take into account for leap year so the Mayan 12/21/2012 date would have the world ending like 7 months ago ….

    • SmallFarm says:

If I recall correctly the mayan calendar is more perfect than the calendar used in the old world and accounts for the 1/4 day in the solar year.

      • GJWinchester says:

Not only that, but the Mayans were impeccable in their abilities to predict and account for various stellar occurances. They built a huge empire based off of their recordings, and lived there for a long time; long enough to know that their calculations in stellar occurances were correct. And, they were, they had the ability to notice these subtle changes in the sky with arcane equipment, almost as well as we can modern day. So, they did, in fact calculate in the 1/4 day.

We are are in the end days and almost any thing could happen now.
Matthew 24:7 “For nations will rise against nations and kingdome against kingdome and there will be food shortages and earth quakes in one plaice after another.”

  25. For those who seem to think it’s luck (or God) that has kept us from collisions in the past, consider this, the distances between bodies in space are so vast that it’s a miracle any two bodies ever collide. We are always being warned of impending collisions, this one will pass us by just like the other close passes in the past, if it was moving slow enough, then perhaps it could get trapped by Earth’s gravity, but it’s highly unlikely. Don’t worry, the world will end someday, but not on that day (or on 12-21-12), and mankind will most likely be extinct long before the world ends.

  31. Lauren says:

What would happen if some how, people were playing a game on us? I mean far away? Like they are trying to see how we survive when they strike the earth with more disasters. Take hurricane Katrina, the earth quake in Haiti, and the suinami in Japan? Maybe they are trying to see what we do if we were struck with a asteroid. You never know. But it’s a thought for some to think about.

It’s interesting that Spanish observers spotted it. The Spanish visionaries of garabandal said the the great warning would correspond with an even that they said looked like two stars colliding in the sky. Perhaps a nuke and the asteroid…perhaps not. Who can say? I will watch with a keen interest on those Feb. days. It may be the event foretold by many seers since the 1500s. But then it might not. Any which way it might be just a good time to get our affairs in order. But then we all should be doing that weekly.

    • Mary says:

      joe,
Didn’t one of the Garabandal seers hear an “A” relates to the Great Warning? And

of the Great Warning. She was told February.

JPL is registering a neg EU rating for the first time so there not hiding anything and only the astute may prepare the rest ? Well history repeats itself and dbl encrypted remote viewing is never wrong .

Not sure what to think any more? There has to be something to the whole dec 21st thing. Alot of civilizations predict a major change. Cliff High (web bot) is predicting a water displacement early 2013. You ask me , this fits the bill. I have always had a feeling that I can’t explain, way before 12/21/12 was talked about. Let’s all keep alert. not sure if our (goverment) would even tell us if something was going to happen. The would probly be safe in a bunker, while we’re left to try to survive.

  37. Eric Watson says:

I have been into remote viewing since 93 and I can point you to the Farsight institute 2012 experiment. ( a kind word for what was viewed by the CRV staff of military grade viewers) June 1 st 2013 the world we live in is no longer the same – and the ideograms and perceptions of who’s left shows lots of rusted metal ,frustrating efforts in growing food, this takes months after walls of water devistate humanity . DU14 in my book fits the bill and you may want to include a life jacket with your bugout bag ! Now you know why the gov has built 138 dumbs and have to disarm us so the global elite can rule absolute when its over. , and why Obama blew many trillions as if it. Would not ever be repaid ! It will slam into many satellites and deflect into our planet at a slant that will drown us all like dragonflys in a storm ,.your home if within 300 miles of any coast will be under 20 feet of sand wells will be along with crops destroyed by salt . This is the harvest and earths purification and has bottle necked civilizations for eons .

There supposed to be a doomsday in 2000 – 2001 then in 2003 and 2004 – 2005 dont forget about 2012 and were still living i think were gonna live 100 or more years. I dont get this why people scare other then children and spread this around the world if they gonna say it again and again it will happen soon. So dont say it and remember dont panic sleep well thank you.

Martin and other readers – Don’t make the mistake, of being completely complacent.
Events don’t have to be ‘End Of the World’, to be very destructive.

Entire civilizations have been eliminated by unknown catastrophes, which people are still trying to figure out today.
Take a look at the ancient cities, lost in the South American jungles – What would cause people to completely abandon these immense structures, that took years, if not centuries, to build?

What is remarkable, is that some historians and archaeologists are starting to “connect the dots” and have noticed the the ‘disappearance’ of some of these civilizations, have occurred around the same time frame.
Very interesting book by David Keys:

That being said – I am not saying that we should lose sleep over this, just be aware. :) Peace !!
