As much as I hate to say, I am rooting for the Syrian leader to stay in power. The recent events have shown us that the people of Middle East countries usually split into factions and fight among themselves when a strong leader is removed from power. Then they establish a government system based on their Sharia law, and the people are usually worse off. We really shouldn’t have gone to war with Iraq, because Saddam Hussein was actually helping hold the country together to keep factions from fighting each other. The Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq were better off under him. Now without him, Iraq is being destroyed from within by civil wars and it is only a matter of time before radicals take over or before Iran moves in.

A few years ago I would have strongly disagreed with you. I hate to say it, too, but now I think you are probably right. Saddam was evil. But are the Iraqis any better off now? I’m not so sure.
