Russia to deploy two army brigades to protect its claims to the Arctic

July 1, 2011MOSCOW (AP) — Russia’s defense minister says the military will deploy two army brigades to help protect the nation’s interests in the Arctic. Anatoly Serdyukov says his ministry is working out specifics, such as troops numbers, weapons and bases, but a brigade includes a few thousand soldiers. Serdyukov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying Friday the brigades could be based in Murmansk, Arkhangelsk or other areas. Russia, the U.S., Canada, Denmark and Norway have been trying to assert jurisdiction over parts of the Arctic, believed to hold up to a quarter of the Earth’s undiscovered oil and gas. On Thursday, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Russia “remains open for dialogue” with its polar neighbors, but will “strongly and persistently” defend its interests in the region. –Yahoo News
Fight for oil and gas in the Arctic: “Russian claims to the Arctic set off an international outcry and reignited fears of a Russian military quest for global domination…without legal arbitration mediating the various international claims to the polar region; the race to conquer what lies beneath the vanishing ice sheets of the Arctic Circle could easily one day morph into an international shooting match.”  –The Extinction Protocol, page 63

    Brother Alvin-

I stumbled upon your site by chance a few weeks ago. Great job on the discernment you use while deciding which info to bring to our attention. The diversity is very impressive. To God be the glory for the passion you have to keep watch. Thank you for sharing your time, talents and mind.

This is a very interesting article on the Russian troop movements in the Arctic. Wow. One has to wonder, how long will the “Bear” remain relatively passive as she watches the West encircle her borders? This article may just indicate that Russia may have had just about enough of America’s imperialistic notions, missle shield, and border encirclement.

I realize this is a stretch and in no way suggest any true relation, but, everything I come across gets a mental cross references against my biblical mind, and I can’t help it the verse comes to mind, ‘with feet like a bear’s feet’. Symbolically having the Russian’s fleet at the feet of the world works to me. lol

I can’t recall the name, but the US has moved it’s largest drilling rig to a bay in Alaska. The congress has quietly voted to lift Obama’s off shore drilling moretorium. I hear that it is now posible to get to the Pacific to the Atlantic and back again through the artic region for the first time. Also, Whales are now able to do this. Some of the most pristine waters in the world are now going to be much more easily accessable.

Not that we should, but first Russia tells us not to interfere with the Syrian issues… “or else”…. The USA has agreed so far. Then Russia says, ” No missile defense shield for Europe with us being involved”…. “or else”. Even though Europe doesn’t even want Russia involved, to prevent War, the USA scraps “the shield” assistance recently. Over and over we’ve been compliant despite rants like this… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9qEpTKePt4&feature=related and threats of what we’d better not do, and now, they lay claim on the once thing that they know most believe we must have…oil. No discussion, this oil here, we claim it, and will bring out the warships.
I just can’t but feel like Russia aims to start the “the last” World War. I mean helping to strengthen Iran giving them Subs to improve their Naval forces. Bonding with China, and the common interests with Turkish government. I don’t know what else to think.

I think the arctic, like the antarctic have been sort of “no man’s lands” – No one has owned them. For the US to claim them for the oil – ….. may be an issue independent of some of the middle east issues. Although – TBH, I’m pretty sure most the the middle east issues are oil dependent, LOL. If we could get a reliable form of energy that was NOT oil dependent, we might see a lot less US involvement in the area. This is an interesting time, Alvin. Thanks for providing this forum (blog) –

Cheers to the greater glory of GOD and his many followers. Thank you Alvin for your hours of daily research into these grave matters.

  10. We are seeing a resurgent Russia as I wrote in my book that Russia would once again exert her power across the circumference of the globe to counter what it perceives as American military unilateralism and imperalism. Power has shifted from West to East and the Western alliances are weakened due to soverign debt and corruption. America is on the brink of financial ruin and she arrived there long before she started fighting unwinable wars across the globe. The U.S. will be forced to go along with the New World Order– she will have no choice and will use her vast military resources to enforce the edicts of the global initiative which will weld mandatory religious observance with control of finance- “as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.” We’re going to wake up one day to a world that is alien to everything we’ve ever known. (Revelation 13:15)

I don’t believe anyone will be surprised here – simply because everyone in this world realises that “Oil” will be the ultimate “weapon” to impose supremacy amongst nations…. The same policy is being followed by many developed nations … won’t be surprised if a war breaks out on this topic – obviously, the countries involved will find legitamacy behind the war, just as they found that during Gulf War, etc etc

And this was unexpected? NOT…… Two brigades, 2000 soldiers, funny, at the South Pole they have a very small force to protect their interests. This is not a small military force in any way. This is a very big deterent! It is also a very threatening statement.
Alvin, are we on the brink of a third world war over diminishing resources already?

    • I think we are Spohia and are, at present, in a proxy global conflict. If we look at history, the 1912-1913: Balkan Wars between Russia and Ottoman Turks was a prelude for a widening global conflict even before we reached a tipping point with the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary in 1914. We are treading on very dangerous, precipitous ground. World War II saw Nazi troops, similarly, racing into the Balkans, Norway and North Africa to capture strategic territory, energy and manufacturing resources as a perlude to expanding the war in Europe on both fronts.

I have not yet read about any *military* forces at the SOUTH pole – This is the first time I have heard of this.
Would you have a link or more information about this, Sophia ?? (Or any of the other readers )
