Pacific Ring of Fire growing more active – volcanic arcs/trenches awakening

April 16, 2011NEW ZEALAND – At least five countries located on the Pacific Ring of Fire have experienced earthquakes greater than a magnitude of 5 over the past 24 hours. A 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit north-eastern Australia on Saturday afternoon. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake took place at 3.30pm local time (0530 GMT) about 124 kilometres southeast of Townsville, Queensland. The quake was measured at a depth of 10 kilometres.  Queensland was hit by another 5.4 magnitude quake on 16 March last. Meanwhile, Christchurch in New Zealand has been hit by more aftershocks this afternoon, leaving several parts of the city without power. The strongest of the tremors measured 5.2 on the Richter scale. The country’s second largest city was hit by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in February. 181 people were killed. Elsewhere, Japan was rattled by a 5.9 magnitude aftershock on Saturday afternoon but there were no initial reports of damage and no risk of a tsunami. Taiwan was hit by a quake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale.  The quake struck 220km east of Keelung City. Tonga, an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, also experienced a 5.7 magnitude earthquake last night. The “Ring of Fire” is an arc stretching from New Zealand, along the eastern edge of Asia, north across the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, and south along the coast of North and South America. The Ring of Fire is composed over 75% of the world’s active and dormant volcanoes. –Irish Weather

Glad you posted this, I was just looking at the USGS and thinking exactly that.

We are all vulnerable, because we have friends on every side of the pond. So much to digest….

I’ve been following the EQ intensity for only 5 months but looking at this map today: http://quakes.globalincidentmap.com/
I never saw so many 5.0+, it’s like a giant firework, not to mention the swarms all over the world. Something cooking… When… What’s your opinion…

    • From all my years of reseaching earthquakes, a incessant rhythm of 5+ quakes has always preceded a major quake. I’m glad you’re paying such attention. After the Haiti earthquake of January 12, 2010 – I recorded 41 earthquakes of a 5.0 magnitude over a six-day period- what was this leading to? Perhaps, the 8.8 quake in Chile in February.

Wow it really is heating up. Has anyone heard the noise which the Scientists captured that was made by Japan’s massive magnitude 9.0 earthquake underwater from Alaska? You can easily google it and I think they just put it up. If anyone has also heard the strange rumblings sound in the florida sky about three weeks ago I think they sound similar not entirely the same but still quite creepy.

    God Bless.

Seems like an earth hot spot at the moment Alvin! After researching these previous swarms of 5+ mag quakes, what would be your pick of location for a bigger event please?

And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake and so great.

I live in the Whitsunday area and the 5.4 yesterday moved my house like the big gusts in TC Ului casused it to do. Same for relatives and friends from Townsville to Sarina. But news reports said it was felt as far away as Brisbane. Townsville to Brisbane is 1,368 km. That’s a long way! We are farmers and my husband and I both felt as if it was the earth venting from pressure of a BIG one building up somewhere.
I guess all the people who have been ‘voices crying in the wilderness’ for years warning of major disasters coming upon the earth were right after all. Stay safe everyone! Be prepared. If God, or the Universe, gives you an instinct to do something in that area, please listen….DO IT. Better to be prepared five years too early than five minutes too late.

I had a horrific dream on the night of 13 April. The only part I now remember is I think myself and others were possibly in a bus on a road next to a beach which sloped down from where we were. I think there were Norfolk Island palms there. Either myself or someone else said oh no look at the ocean. There was a wall of water about 50 METRES high just standing straight up in the air. I could not believe what I was seeing. Next thing this water came over the bus or whatever and we were in like a vacuum and I thought I am still breathing air. The water kept going across the road over shops. Then I woke up.

I had a similar dream in regards to a destructive water scene. I was in the northwestern tip of Arkansas & an earthquake took place and the state literally cracked open causing a divide in the nw region and the remainder of arkansas, then water rose up and slammed down in a massive wave. It was very tragic.

Just found this most interesting article from the past just after Haiti…the comments are especially interesting, especially after Japan.

Somewhere there must be a chart of the location and number of earthquakes per year for the last fifty years…..
