Green ‘space’ slime baffles nature experts: linked to meteors?

Alien substance or biological mystery? An unexplained jelly-like substance, which is said to occur during meteor showers has been found on a wildlife park in Somerset.
March 5, 2013UNITED KINGDOMA “weird” green slime said in folklore to appear at the same time as meteors hit Earth has been found in a birdlife park in Somerset. The RSPB has appealed for help in identifying the slime, which is said to be scattered on grass banks close to pools and lakes around Ham Wall Nature Reserve near Glastonbury. The jelly-like substance could be bacteria, fungus or toad innards, wildlife experts said. Some believe it could be a substance that has been written about for centuries called star or astral jelly, which is said to appear in the wake of meteor showers. Its appearance has coincided with a meteor strike in Russia and the harmless fly-by of an asteroid at a record distance from Earth in February. Steve Hughes, the RSPB site manager at Ham Wall, said: “This past week we’ve been finding piles of this translucent jelly dotted around the reserve. (It is) always on grass banks away from the water’s edge. They are usually about 10cm (4in) in diameter.  “We’ve asked experts what it might be, but as yet no one is really sure. Whatever it is, it’s very weird.” More than 1,000 people were hurt in February’s meteor blast in Russia. Tony Whitehead, an RSPB spokesman for the South, he added: “Although we don’t know what it actually is, similar substances have been described previously. In records dating back to the 14th Century it’s known variously as star jelly, astral jelly or astromyxin. In folklore it is said to be deposited in the wake of meteor showers.” One of the more favored explanations is that it is a form of cyanobacteria called Nostoc. Others suggest that it is the remains of the regurgitated innards of amphibians such as frogs and toads, and of their spawn. Alternatively, it may be related to the intriguingly named crystal brain fungus. Mr. Whitehead added: “We’ve read a few articles now, and much speculation. One suggested it was neither animal nor plant, and another that it didn’t contain DNA, although it does give the appearance of something ‘living.’ Our reserve team will be looking out for the slime over the next few days, but if anyone can offer any explanations we’d be glad to hear.” The public are being warned not to touch the mystery substance, and to inform nature reserve staff if they spot any. –Sky News

It’s “jelly-like” substance? AND, yet, they don’t know what it its? Yeah…RIGHT!

How about this…DO A CHEMICAL ANALYSIS ON IT!…duh!!!

    Then, write the story!!!

I agree with you bobby90247. I can tell you that if the “powers-that-be” actually do find anything strange within this mass of slime…. they wont tell us. The mass media will drop this stoy like a hot potato OR they will offer us misinformation. When the media reported the story about the strange “mysterious purple spheres” found in the desert near Tucson (02/07/13) they dropped that story as well. = /

Have a calm and blessed day……..

We dont need any more slime on this planet, we’ve got enough of it already with our so called leaders!

LOL @jade : i agree totally to you !!! no matter where you live or come from!!!! the so called leader`s are also an unidentified mass (which only act against the human race on earth).

Has anyone seen Slimer around lately? *Ghostbusters reference if you do not know what I am talking about*

Very weird though. Only shows up around space rocks time eh?

Anyone remember the movie “Blob”? That is what it reminds me of. I am not going to spectulate on what it is unless someone does a chemical analysis on it.

    Here is a thought.
*IF* some meteors / meteor showers = are related to comets: I suppose it’s plausible that the ‘slime’ could be organic matter, related to meteor showers.
( ref. the ‘dirty snowball’ model of comets )

These ‘blobs’ would not be falling, attached to the meteors… They would only need to come down WITH the meteor showers.

***Have scientists and astronomers, considered that these may have been, frozen ‘chunks’ of ice + organic matter, in a cold space environment… before they fell into the earth’s atmosphere ? ***
Given the right conditions, I suppose it may be possible – And it may be possible they could survive a fall to the ground more or less ‘intact’. .

Okay, this is really weird. I agree with others here, do a chemical analysis on it. And I also had to think about the movie “Blob” except it’s not red.

Here’s a very obscure thought – maybe this how life formed/began on our planet back whenever (this may not appeal to some other’s beliefs – respectfully), and may be from a cataclysmic event (planet, space body or whatever) or nebula, then propelled through space, hitting our planet and depositing here (or created by the interaction with a substance on our earth)????
As I said, this is a way-out, maybe ridiculous idea, but with all that is happening these days and much with few explanations being offered…..you just never know…?? 😉

It’s probably the same as the aliens in War of the Worlds. When the aliens shot down in to their tripod crafts using what appeared to be lightning, well the slime is from one of those aliens whose lightning bolt malfunctioned and he splattered to the earth…

Seriously, it looks biological to me. We know that most animals are more sensitive to the environment than we are – as in they panic and run at a disaster before we are even aware there’s a problem. I can’t think what kind of force an asteroid would possess that would make an animal sensitive enough to secrete a green slime, but there again, we only recently became aware that birds are sensitive to the electro-magnetic system of the earth, or bats having natural sonar abilities, or reptiles (esp snakes) hear through ground vibrations. Maybe this green slime is the result of another sense about to be discovered…

    Hello All,
Speaking of strange jelly type substance material…. What about the “Mysterious Purple Spheres” found on February 07, 2013?

In the desert near Tucson, thousands of tiny purple spheres have appeared, isolated from the rest of the terrain. The mysterious objects, described as being like “gooey marbles that ooze out a water substance when squished,” have yet to be identified. More, including photos and video, at KGUN9-TV and Daily Mail.

Why did the media drop this story without resolving what the actual material ended up being?
BTW – I Thank God just about everyday for this website! Have a calm and blessed day eveyone….

I found a really great video via Youtube called “Crowded Skies” that offers meteor videos and its effects upon mankind. The music of Beethoven within the video is fantastic and I especially appreciated the message shown at the end of it. Have a calm and blessed day everyone…….

It’s what has been referred to in the past as ectoplasm. Many of the falling objects that are being witnessed around the globe are not space rocks, they are non human entities being thrown to earth. They are the fallen.
