19: Mexico’s Colima volcano rocked by violent eruption

January 8, 2013 – MEXICO – Yesterday afternoon, the day of Epiphany, a violent explosion of Volcán de Fuego de Colima Mexico has affected causing a high alert in the Mexican civil protection system with the immediate evacuation of about 3,000 tourists inside the National Park Nevado de Colima. In locations around the volcano, there has been an intense rain of ashes, and from the summit of the mountain has run raised a cloud of lava and eruptive material over 2 km high. At the time there were no damages nor was required the evacuation of the countries closest to the volcano, from which we have only been able to enjoy the unique spectacle of nature, but in the next few days is not impossible that the eruption could intensify , although at the moment it is quiet. As a precaution, the National Park is closed to visitors indefinitely. –Metoweb (translated)

    I’ve been noticing a pattern to these eruptions starting up in the Americas, and that pattern has the eruptive activity moving north: first South America, then Nicargua, now Mexico. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the volcanos along our west coast, especially after an strong earthquake.

    19? We’ve already had 19 eruptions this year? Wow! I do agree with davidgreybeard – definitely need to keep an eye out on our west coast. I do believe this is going to be an interesting year.

        I just checked through updates back to Dec 31st and no other numbered volcanoreports could be found. As I have not put that much of an effort to monitoring volcanos myself, I still find quite odd that in 8 days 19 new eriptions would have emerged. Can you provide some feedback to back this indeed is 19th eruption? Thanks.

        Who said they were all new eruptions? Colima’s last eruption occurred in 2008, and there was some activity in 2009. Volcanoes are always erupting on the planet and the day they stops…we’re in deep trouble because volcanoes vent dangerous build-ups of magmatic pressure and gasses, particularily along weakened crevices in the planet’s crust. To correctly monitor the planet’s thermal cycle, we have to know everything that is erupting at any given time to quantify if the build-up of thermal energy is increasing or is, in fact, abating. Think it not odd. At any given time, there are at least 20 volcanoes erupting on land, and more than 100 times that many are venting in the sea. We live on a very dynamic planet that is aggresssively ruled by the forces of fire/water.

        Well this is good news. All these eruptions must mean a lot of the heat and pressure within the earth’s core is being released which means we’re tilting away from an Extinction Level Event. Also Alvin, can you give a list of the 19 volcanoes that have gone off already this year?

        Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. The heat moves away from the core by a process of convection and magmatic expansion through the mantle and crust. The planet has many complicated interlocking and interdependent systems and since only 1/3 of the planet currently stands out of water- there is simply not enough terrestrial volcanoes on the planet to curtail the escalation of a major internal thermal acceleration of the planet’s gradient temperature. That’s why many of the supervolcanoes and volcanoes are starting to inflate and major ground deformation or magmatic movement (including increased fumaroles discharge) is being reported in: Mammoth Mtn Long Valley, Yellowstone, Uturuncu in Bolivia, Santorini in Greece, Campi Flegrei in Naples, Laacher See in Germany, Mt. Fuji in Japan, activity at Aso in Japan in 2011, and Katla in Iceland. So, we’re going to see at least one, maybe more, of these large systems depressurize in a violent explosion in our lifetime if these changes continue to progress with the planet. They’re all sitting, primed, and are bidding their time, awaiting a trigger. We cannot ignore the changes sweeping across the planet’s landscape. Many more changes are stirring along ridges, and in volcanic trenches under the sea. The current earthquake swarm occurring at Carlsberg Ridge in the Indian Ocean is a prime example of how the sea floor is beginning to convulse across the planet.

        Thank you for this information. I was going to ask you about the Carlsberg Ridge. I’ve noticed that there have been at least 13 quakes in the past 24 hours ranging from 4.6 to 5.0. Those are not minor quakes. This will definitely be an area to watch.
