US, Russia plan hotline to prevent cyber war from turning into a nuclear conflict

April 30, 2012 WASHINGTONA hotline between the United States and Russia designed to defuse misunderstandings that could trigger a nuclear conflict will likely expand to cover the potential risk of a cyber war, The Washington Post reported Friday. Under a proposal being negotiated with Moscow, the digital sphere would be added to topics covered by the Washington-Moscow hotline, the Post wrote, citing U.S. officials. The hotline’s official name is the Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, which was set up in 1988 under President Ronald Reagan to allow Washington and Moscow to inform each other of missile tests or rocket launches that could be mistaken as hostile acts. An agreement making the change could be ready within several weeks, the Post said. The Pentagon declined to comment about the report when asked by AFP. The proposal underscores the increasing importance of digital threats for government and military policy makers, with U.S. officials issuing warnings that a cyber attack could paralyze water, power or other vital services. The accord would mark the first time the United States and another government have sought to formally commit to reduce the danger of a cyber war, as part of an effort to render the digital realm “more stable,” the paper said. U.S. intelligence agencies have pointed to Russia and China as the source of the most aggressive cyber espionage and hacking. The famous “red phone,” allowing for crisis communications between U.S. and Russian heads of state, dates back decades and is not part of the Nuclear Reduction Center created under Reagan’s presidency. –Total Telecom
Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project’s “Trinity” test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan’s nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Korea’s two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade (the legitimacy of both of which is not 100% clear).
With this simulation, the full cope of just how much we’ve nuked the atmosphere and poisoned this planet to the point of sickening it since 1945 can now be realized.  –The Extinction Protocol

WOW that makes it easy to see the insanity from the world leaders.

So I wonder if just half that was used in a nuclear exchange how that would effect the world overall.

Can it, the level of damage to the planet, if not the solar system, really be realized, or is the level of damage way beyond human comprehension?
As frightening as this data is, what we don’t know as well as what we will not be allowed to learn is magnitudes worse!

Thanks Alvin, again and again many thanks.
God bless you and your family in each and every one of his ways.

This is why I refuse to eat any fish I don’t catch myself. All of these nuclear tests in the ocean and the fukishima disaster has radiated so much of the ocean life that I can’t trust it anymore.

I’m not taking a walk through the California desert anytime soon either! I find it disgusting how we are poisoning our Earth, like we hold nothing sacred anymore.

Interesting point here, there has been much said about “fracking” to get natural gas from the earth as being the cause of much of the tectonic “problems” we are now experiencing. Remembering when these nuclear tests were taking place, they were underground as not to release radiation in to the atmosphere. Sixty years of underground nuclear testing is a mere blink of the eye in geological time. Energy of the magnitude released by nuclear blasts underground must go somewhere. In retrospect remembering Robert Oppenheimer borrowed quote “Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” are we now just begining to experience the cumulative effect?

What’s a matter with you commenters, don’t you like to blow up the Earth and watch people die as long as you live? Don’t you like nuclear winter? Observe the poor slob who has to suffer the fallout? Watch people literally melt before your eyes? You should love your leaders who want to decrease the world population! Shame on all of you commenters! Let’s have a super world war and annihilate as many humans as possible its going to be like a chess game. Our dear leaders want to have fun with us so we should support their efforts at murder, what’s wrong with playing a no win war game with the human players? I will end here because I have to get back in my straight jacket and go back to my padded room.

Is it really such a bad thing to have an open line of communication with the world’s largest nuclear nation?

Russia: Hey Barack… you can call back those B-2s.
USA: Well Vladdy, our satellites see just about everything. Is there something you want to tell me?
Russia: The object flying over the North Pole is not a nuke. We are testing our entry in next year’s Pumpkin Chunkin’ contest. We didn’t think you would mind if we aimed for Utah.
