‘Doomsday EQ drill’ in Northwest, largest in US ever: Mega-quake could kill 15,000 people in 30 minutes

June 2016PORTLAND Imagine a devastating earthquake and tsunami have cut off Pacific Northwest coastal communities. Phone and internet service have collapsed. Ham-radio operators living on the stricken coast fire up their radios, contact emergency managers and report on the magnitude of the disaster so that no time is wasted in saving lives. This is the kind of scenario that will be rehearsed during the second week of June in a massive earthquake and tsunami readiness drill that has been developed by the U.S. government, the military, and state and local emergency managers over the past few years to test their readiness for what — when it strikes — will likely be the nation’s worst natural calamity.
The June 7-10 exercise is called Cascadia Rising. It is named after the Cascadia Subduction Zone — a 600-mile-long fault just off the coast that runs from Northern California to British Columbia. “This is the largest exercise ever for a Cascadia break,” said Lt. Col. Clayton Braun of the Washington State National Guard. Braun has been a key planner of the doomsday drill, which is being overseen by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Federal officials say about 20,000 people will be involved in the disaster drill, representing various federal agencies, the U.S. military, state and local emergency response managers across the Pacific Northwest, Native American tribes and emergency management officials in British Columbia. One main goal of the exercise is to test how well they will work together to minimize loss of life and damages when a mega-quake rips along the Cascadia Subduction Zone and unleashes a killer tsunami.
Awareness of the seismic threat looming just off the Pacific Northwest dates back to the 1980s, when researchers concluded that coastal lands long ago had been inundated by a tsunami. Research also indicated that a tsunami that was documented in Japan in January 1700 originated from the Cascadia Subduction Zone, also known as the CSZ. Research suggests that the CSZ on average produces magnitude 9.0 quakes every 500 years, but big quakes have been separated by as few as 200 years and as many as 1,000. So it is impossible to predict when the next monster quake occurs. However, tectonic stresses have been accumulating in the CSZ for more than 300 years and seismologists say it could rupture at any time.
More than 8 million people live in the area that is vulnerable to the Cascadia Subduction Zone. It contains the most heavily populated areas of the Pacific Northwest, including Seattle and Portland, as well as Interstate 5, one of the nation’s busiest roads. Coastal towns are especially at risk. Studies have forecast that while 1,100 people could die from a 9.0 magnitude quake, 13,500 could perish from the tsunami that would slam into the coast within 15 to 30 minutes after the shaking begins.
A scenario document written in preparation for Cascadia Rising exercise states “the scale of fatalities across the coast may overwhelm the resources of local governments.” Whole towns along the coast may disappear. Hospitals could either collapse or be too severely damaged to handle casualties. All across the region between the Pacific and the Cascade Range, bridges and roads could be destroyed, fuel supplies and communications disrupted, and buildings and crucial infrastructure may sink into soil that’s been liquefied by the intense shaking. –Seattle Times

We need to pray for the people who live in this area. It seems that it’s only a matter of time before this horrific disaster strikes.

thank you suzanne… i am one who lives in this area.

definitely there is something happening here. not a disaster as yet. but for the past 10 years, summer keeps getting more, well- Summery.

last year was very hot for a long time. normally we have a week or at most two of heatwaves all summer long, typically not even all at once. but we had record breaking heat for over a month straight. summer lasted extra long too.

this year, summer has allready kicked in 3 weeks ahead of schedule. ordinarily i don’t have to haul out the garden hose until around July. this year i’ve allready had to start watering, before May even ended.
right now we are experiencing a mid-August-style heat wave, temps in the 90s, two days touching 100, more 90+ days ahead before they say it will drop briefly back into the 70s. this time of year, “normal” is anywhere between 60 – 75 degrees. we are WAY above “normal”.

today i was at the drugstore and decided to peruse their nursery stock for some new color to add to my flowerbeds. in the NW, lots of grocery stores and pharmacies set up garden shelves out in front during the warm season. we get so much rain & gloom all winter & spring, as soon as the days get longer and drier everyone starts shopping for their gardens.
well, today i was shocked by the dramatic departure from our usual selection! there were still a few of the Willamette Valley favorites we grow year after year… but the majority of the plants offered for sale were the main varieties always offered down in SOUTHERN CA, selected especially for their DROUGHT AND HEAT TOLERANCE. this was shocking, not just to see plants for sale i havent seen in nearly 15 years, but also because i know very well that the Landscaping Industry plans SEVERAL SEASONS AHEAD- this was no spur of the moment, hey-look-we-are-having-a-heat-wave-lets-capitalize-on-it decision. The Nursery Industry IS capitalizing on it for certain- but the decision of what to sell for the summer season was made months ago, quite possibly a year or more ago.
THEY KNEW. They are maximizing their profit margin- on a very definitely changing climate in our valley.

I’m hearing from friends all over the US that once familiar weather patterns have become a thing of the past. They are experiencing either cooler or warmer temps than is customary or more or less rain than in past years. In my area we should be having daytime temps in the high 80s to mid 90s now with high humidity. But our daytime temps have been in the low 70s and in the 40s at night( the house was so cold that we had to run our heater) and the humidity has been low. Our rainfall seems only slightly higher than for this time of year and I’m curious to know how much rain we’ll get in July and August when we usually see drought conditions. I know that weather patterns have changed dramatically in the past and that this may be just another example. But it is curious that the Nursery Industry seemed to have advanced knowledge of the changes in your area.

yes, and ive since visited several more garden shops and saw the same change at all of them… many are plants that never did well here in the past. but the patterns have changed and the growers suddenly have made a big change too- which wouldn’t be the case if they were at all concerned of risk for a possible loss.

John Shorey, who has made frequent visits to the Jim Bakker Show and this was broadcasted over a year ago, that that a 9.2 at least will strike the Pacific Northwest with a potential heavy lost of life.

But, that will not be the end. The effects of that event will effect the entire country in some manner.

Ok, dudes, I may just, ya know, be being paranoidal or conspirational or whatever (blurble blurble blurble), but I DO CONFESS that I find it just, you know, a WEE bit strange that a massive EQ drill takes place, in part, in “conservative” (“conservative” in quotations only cuz they REALLY like their Redwood-forest grown herb) Northern Cali . . . on the same day that the California Primary is being held.

Just sayin’ . . . in a speculationitive kind of way and NOT suggestitive that such a drill might have ANY impaction on such an otherwise unrelated event, cuz, surely, THEY won’t be, with emergency-type vehicles, clogging up any infer – infa – infrastructure. . . right?

  4. At least it’s in a liberal “safe space” so it couldn’t happen to a better area. That entire left coast is a communist paradise.

neither your political viewpoints nor anyone else’s have any impact on whether or not geological disasters will strike your or anyone else’s region. everyone’s life is of the same worth to the Creator, and HE doesn’t care one cent for human politics. HE cares for HIS Creation.

If you don’t want government participation and want to be left alone MOVE out of that area. Find a more secure location.

It’s good to know that they are doing this. Better for this practice than not too and the unthinkable happen. Which it is ready to in the northwest area. God bless em all. Good luck getting the general public to understand and listen and follow direction.

Only 15,000 in 30 minutes? Why such a low estimate? I’ll venture to say the death toll will be in the millions.

“Cascadia Rising” sums to 117 in Simple Gematria. So does “Sixth Seal” = 117 and “Pentecost” = 117 http://www.gematrix.org/?word=Cascadia+Rising
