‘The water table is dropping all over the world’ – NASA warns we’re on the path to global drought

Global Drought
June 2015WATER CRISIS Drought-stricken California is not the only place draining underground aquifers in the hunt for fresh water. It’s happening across the world, according to two new studies by U.S. researchers released Tuesday. One-third of Earth’s largest groundwater basins are being rapidly depleted says new study. Twenty-one of the world’s 37 largest aquifers — in locations from India and China to the United States and France — have passed their sustainability tipping points, meaning more water is being removed than replaced from these vital underground reservoirs. Thirteen of 37 aquifers fell at rates that put them into the most troubled category.
“The situation is quite critical,” said Jay Famiglietti, senior water scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the studies’ principal investigator. And it’s difficult to see it getting better soon. These groundwater reserves take thousands of years to accumulate and only slowly recharge with water from snowmelt and rains. Now, as drilling for water has taken off across the globe, the hidden water reservoirs are being stressed. Underground aquifers supply 35 percent of the water used by humans worldwide. Demand is even greater in times of drought. Rain-starved California is currently tapping aquifers for 60 percent of its water use, up from the usual 40 percent.
In another finding from the studies led by the University of California Irvine, scientists say that some of these aquifers may be much smaller than previously thought. Only a few of the aquifers have been mapped in detail and most estimates of aquifer water reserves have “uncertainty ranges across orders of magnitude,” according to the studies. The new studies used NASA’s GRACE satellites to take unprecedentedly precise measurements of the groundwater reservoirs hidden beneath the ground. The satellites detected subtle changes in the gravitational pull of the earth’s surface. Water is exceptionally heavy and exerts a greater pull on orbiting spacecraft. As the satellites flew overhead, slight changes in aquifer water levels were charted over a decade, from 2003 to 2013. “The water table is dropping all over the world,” Familglietti said. “There’s not an infinite supply of water.” –National Post

you keep hanging in there BW… its never easy being a ‘voice calling into the wilderness’
but we who are called to be voices mustn’t ever give up the post, or there would be none left calling out for the truth
besides, giving up brings a whole new kind of aloneness & doesnt help things a bit.

For sure the place we have now had a bored well of only 80 feet raised a family of 5 plus watered livestock from the 40’s – 90’s. We purchased this place in 05 had to drill a new well due to lack and quality, had to drilled 300ft. The real relief was having water to draw from; no water no life.

So just a reason to depopulate true earth. With all the floods and rain all over the world yep that makes sense oh and the north pole melting icebergs dropping into the ocean. Yep the water table is dropping OH NO the sky is falling. How about weather modifications maybe they should engineering weather patterns. Ugh I’m just on a rant!!!

All war is politically motivated…..from greedy politicians, govts, Kings, Sheiks and the like, everyone wants total control, to wield it upon others for their own perverse greed & power…..subjecting their populace to modern slavery. Though no one will ever admit this one fact, that just like Rome of old, the US is the worlds largest terroristic country/nation……influencing other countries to do their bidding, wheeling and dealing for money and power, to make everyone abide by, and be just like we are…..a nation of immoral degenerates, pedophiles, liars & homosexuals.

This nation is being punished & is going to be judged for walking away from and disobeying Yahuah’s commands and Torah…..it all falls back to obedience to Yahuah your Elohim…..the things we’re seeing presently, is the result of acting treacherously toward Yisra’el/Isra’el forcing them to divide their land with a people it was not promised to…

I do.agree that war is politically motivated, planned to the ‘king’ and down to the common folks. Many times there is always a mandate which looks good for the people but turns as the beginning of entrapment.

    • Strange but true– Earthquakes affect water table levels and the stronger the earthquake; the more widespread the effect seismic waves can have on subterranean aquifers. The 1964 8.5 magnitude Alaska earthquake was said to affect water tables levels in several other countries.

You can read more here: http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/fs-096-03/

So regardless of desalination plants, if this planet becomes more seismically dynamic – we may be in for a plethora of troubling problems.

Yes Alvin. When the Japan quake hit in 2011, a water reserve in the U.S. (can’t remember where it was) dropped. This may not have been the only long distance water reservoir to have been affected either….would need to re-research to check.

Oh wow! I hadn’t even thought about how major Earthquakes are responsible for impacting the subterranean aquifers/water tables across the planet to varying degrees. Yes! If one considers that the earth is connected deep below, it really makes perfect logical sense that a far reaching domino subterranean shifting can and does occur. (Eeep!)

And as far as: “If this planet becomes more seismically dynamic – we ‘may’ be in for a plethora of troubling problems” goes… here again I totally agree! That said however, I would exchange the word “May” for the word “Will” instead. Yup I actually feel that if this planet becomes more seismically dynamic – we ‘WILL’ be in for a plethora of troubling problems…eh? = /

Btw- Thank you once again for sharing another really informative link Alvin. ♥ ♥ ♥

Hi Yellow Bird. Here in Australia (Victoria) our government was heavily criticized for beginning to build a hugely expensive desal-plant. I was one of the few (?) who heralded the intelligence of the project. We may need it in the future and those who hated the government for its approval and creation may be thankful in the future….

Desalinization was largely shot down in the states too… same reason given by our ptbes.
i must say i’ve never understood the whole “hugely expensive” thing, given “money” is mainly an arbitrary numbers game by now anyway.
once during another dire period (the great depression) the US had a president with the sense to say damn the numbers, lets pull through together, and where there’s a will we’ll make a way. too bad so few politicos have the people at heart

did you say Australia actually is going forward with a de-sal project? Wonderful!
i hope it’s just the first of many more to come…

Desalinization doesn’t work well for the oceans turns them into dead zones , then you have no fish ,
food , there is no other way to fix it but to slow down population ,we should have done it a long time ago , some of us have been saying it for over 40 years . it was always the case ! we shouldn’t tamper with nature , it works well until we screw it up

Okay, WOW! Thanks Alvin. Never thought about the relation between earthquakes and water table levels. Always something good here! I hope the artesian well near where I live is safely tucked in by some protecting boulders. I can’t wait to meet other people with the same problems, waiting in line for water and hearing their stories as we stand in line somewhere, for something – maybe one day, water….Just thinking positively about things of course.

  7. It is like the mid 60’s all over again. In school back then we were quizzed on what we would do when fresh water ran out in 2012, at least according to predictions based on scientific study. It was kinda scary. I was around 8 years old maybe. It is a good thing lake water levels here in Minnesota haven’t changed much at all since then.

oooh… but i’d bet the quality has gone downhill… here in the PacNW, i’m not too excited by the prospect of trying to somehow clean up our urban river water enough to drink safely…
funky little kritters can be dealt with, but my city spent MANY years dumping all sorts of industrial nasty all along river’s edge.

I can give you directions for an artesian spring in Auburn/black diamond WA.
0.000003 ppm. very clean and as much as you need. No cost, just pull up and fill your bottles.
My local grocery store is selling fill your own for 45 cents a gallon.
I am curious on the price in other parts of the United States – any one care to chime in?

    That is, without moisture.

Four minutes without oxygen, FOUR DAYS WITHOUT WATER, four weeks without food. “The situation is quite critical”: yeah, that’s a mouthful.
