59: Galapagos Island volcano erupts for the first time in 33 years

May 2015 – GALAPAGOS ISLANDS, Ecuador – After almost 33 years of inactivity, Wolf Volcano, the highest in the Galapagos Islands and home to the only population of pink iguanas in the world, began to erupt early Monday, the Galapagos National Park reported. “The volcano is not located near a populated area,” the Park said. “There is no risk for the human population.” The Galapagos Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean, some 1,000 kilometers off the coast of Ecuador. Pink iguanas share the habitat with yellow iguanas and giant tortoises, located on the northwest flank. The lava flow has southeasterly direction, so the park expects the animals won’t be affected.
The Galapagos National Park also said that currently there is no risk to tourism operations, but the Environment Ministry is notifying tourist operators to take precautions. Environment Ministry officials weren’t able to be reached for comment. The Wolf Volcano, located on Isabela Isla, is 1,707 meters above sea level. Its first recorded eruption was in 1797 and the latest was in 1982. The Galapagos are one of the most volcanically active regions in the world and famous for their unique flora and fauna. Charles Darwin visited the islands in 1835 and the creatures that live there helped inspire his theory of evolution. –WSJ

    Hi brother Alvin, how are you? Did you notice that in the last 24 hours there was a 4.7 magnitude earthquake at a shallow depth of 10 km near to this Wolf volcano? This is probably linked to this volcanic eruption Alvin. What are your thoughts? Thanks and God bless you!

      Definitely – and this may be a key indicator of deeper or accelerated change is occurring within the planet. The Galapagos Islands were formed, much like Hawaii and the Canary Islands, by a magma plume or “hotspot.” Hyperactivity at the planet’s “hotspots” have been linked to processes affecting planetary magnetic field propagation – which is probably one more indication that the field is declining further and heading for a reversal. We’ve seen increased volcanic activity at the planet’s hotspots and magma plumes over the last few years including: Iceland, The Canary Islands, Mt. Etna, more recently Kilauea (Hawaii) and now Galapagos. If this is indication that all the planet’s hotspots are winding up and going to erupt – we should really be concerned about one of the most dangerous ones of all – Yellowstone. Most supervolcanoes are the results of “hotspots” and maybe that’s why they’re all inflating across the planet.

        Alvin, it’s interesting you mentioned Yellowstone, lots of activity is going on right now. Magma movements, roads melting, bridge collapsing, seismographs going wild, new laws about taking pictures inside the park illegal… But, some will say nothing unusual, it happens all the time…

        When the Pharisees came to Jesus asking for a big sign – remember what he said:

        “In the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and overcast. O you hypocrites, you can discern the appearance of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times?” Matthew 16:3

        Ask any geologists what are the signs a volcano is going to erupt. They will say earthquake swarms and harmonic tremors, major ground deformation, moderate earthquakes, and geysers and vent eruptions. Yellowstone is doing all of this now – so yes, the volcano is building to an eruption and has been since the last eruptive phase. This is what volcanoes do. Since these signs are unfolding over a protracted period of time, scientists are not discerning them as being relevant or unusual. Much like the Pharisees in Christ’s day, they are looking for one big sign that Yellowstone will give off right before it erupts. Christ gave these analogy as a warning about missing the obvious to focus on the specific.

        I think whenever Yellowstone does erupt; it will surprise everyone except the people who have been following all these signs that the planet is growing increasingly more restless and kinetic due to these uniform changes now taking place within its interior.

    Speaking of “hotspots” a report regarding a 4.2 or so on the Hawaii big island Last week and there was a report and I’m not sure if it was on the same island, but a lava crater that was filled, suddenly disappeared.

    Hey, Alvin: on page 484 of The Extinction Protocol, you state that “Underwater volcanoes in the ring of fire in the Pacific are heating up El Nino.”

    This year, of course, El Nino is the devil of drought and flood; we have an unusual hot spot in the Pacific, and, of course, volcanoes popping EVERYWHERE. Aside from the obvious, observable, Pacific eruptions, is there ANY way to know how many volcanoes are ACTUALLY erupting? Any thermal imaging techniques or tests for gas emissions? Thanks!

      Terrestrial volcanoes are monitored- the ones in the oceans are not. According to my statistical analysis – for every volcano that erupts on land, another 1,340 to 1,500 erupts in the world oceans. When you consider just how much volcanic activity is occurring on the sea-floor; it really is alarming. In the Permian extinction, one of the largest volcanic eruptive periods on Earth – the oceans overturned – methane exsolved – and the oceans died. If this process (runaway thermal gradient) doesn’t self-regulate itself – we may be headed for something close to a repeat.

      Ratio: Earth to ocean erupting volcanoes: 59 terrestrial = 79,060 erupting in the world’s oceans

      To put that is some kind of a context, if we had 79,000 volcanoes simultaneous erupting on land – everyone on the planet would be dead. Now we begin to see how the oceans are our life buffer- when they die, we won’t be far behind.
