Ebola could be ‘world’s next AIDS,’ CDC director warns

October 2014HEALTHEbola is spreading with such speed that it could become a global pandemic to rival AIDS if action isn’t taken now, one of the U.S.’s top health officials has warned. “In the 30 years I’ve been working public health, the only thing like this has been AIDS, and we have to work now so that this is not the world’s next AIDS,” Dr. Tom Frieden, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Wednesday. Frieden spoke at a conference at the World Bank in Washington D.C. Those in attendance included a group of African leaders from countries where the virus has spread. “Speed is the most important variable here,” Frieden said. “This is controllable and this was preventable. It’s preventable by investing in core public health services, both in the epicenter of the most affected countries, in the surrounding countries, and in other countries that might be affected.”  The World Health Organization released a report on Wednesday that noted six countries — five in West Africa and the United States — that had been affected. The report notes, however, that the information they used was only accurate through Oct. 5, and just this week there was a confirmed case of Ebola in Spain when a nurse tested positive for the disease. That brings the number of affected countries to seven.
The WHO report said the three countries with the worst situation were Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, which all have widespread and intense transmission. Representatives from those three countries were all present at the meeting when Frieden spoke. According to the WHO report, there had been 3,865 deaths as of Oct. 5 out of 8,033 confirmed cases. Those figures represents a 48 percent fatality rate. The death of Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who was diagnosed and later died from Ebola in Dallas, was not included in those numbers. His death on Wednesday marked the first time someone in America had died from the disease. Ashoka Mukpo, the American journalist who contracted Ebola while in Liberia and is now being treated in Nebraska, has had no changes to his condition and a spokesperson for the hospital told ABC News that his symptoms are similar to “the worst flu you can get.” Doctors in Dallas are still monitoring deputy sheriff Michael West Monnig whose condition is not consistent with the early stages of Ebola. The deputy sheriff sought medical attention because he did not feel well more than a week after going into the apartment where Duncan had been staying with relatives when he was showing symptoms. –ABC

CDC let eEola back into america where
e it was made in 1997. Ebola was planned many years ago by the “corporation” in 1997 scientist said airborne Ebola would be able to take out 90 % of population on earth to prevent overpopulation BILL GATES AGREED WITH THAT STATEMENT! AND HE IS BEHIND ALL VACCINES THAT HAVE BEEN FORCED UPON AFRICAN POPULATION IN RECENT YEARS. ASK THE QUESTION OF ” DOES VACCINES HAVE A TIME RELATION WITH THE OUTBREAK OF EBOLA ?????????

What a flawed and inept comparison. World’s next AIDS? No, the world’s next Black Death.

    Last I checked…

    – AIDS cannot be caught merely touching an infected person
    – AIDS carriers do not leave infectious traces of the virus on objects, in rooms, in vehicles, etc
    – AIDS can only be contracted by a blood transfusion or sexual intercourse
    – AIDS carriers do not start outbreaks just by causally walking around in public
    – AIDS does not constantly mutate, potentially evolving into an airborne contagion.
    – If you’re infected with AIDS, you do not show symptoms within as little as TWO days
    – If you’re infected with AIDS, you do not face a 90% morality rate
    – If you’re infected with AIDS, you do not die within 1-2 WEEKS
    – If you’re infected with AIDS, while no cure, there are effective drugs and medications available

The only thing AIDS has in common, is there is no cure for the disease, but UNLIKE Ebola it is treatable and manageable with drugs.

Now if you want to compare Ebola with the Black Death plague…well..

I see this spreading like wildfire, with the potential to bring modern day society to its very knees. This cannot be easily stopped, this is a very, very deadly and highly infectious virus we’re talking about here, like nothing we’ve ever dealt with before. It’s absolutely terrifying what we’re potentially facing. I don’t even know if this can be controlled or stopped at this point. We’ll see in the coming weeks what we’re facing….it’s a wait and see game now.

They’ve got a very, very, very, very long ways to go to get anywhere close to the number of people that have had AIDs over the last thirty years. Close to eighty million people have had AIDs over the last thirty years. WIth close to half dying from AIDs related causes. Ebola is nowhere near the number of people that has contracted HIV. EVen compared to FLu deaths each year, Ebola deaths are just a drop in the bucket

30 years from now a better time to compare Aids and Ebola.
and total infected vs. total deaths a better way to compare Ebola and the flu.

All flights coming into the US from any foreign nation should be stopped IMO. There is no reason to expose Americans to this disease unnecessarily. Humanity and charity can only go so far.

I agree with stopping air travel to and from west africa. I disagree with charity and humanity statement, even if you do not die of ebola something will surely kill you. Can you face God when you do die and convince God that your fear outweighs the love for ALL humanity ? I know I cannot, therefore I will continue to support and pray that we save as many lives or at least ease their suffering as they die. Our time here is very very short compared to the eternity you will spend reviewing the decisions you made here . God Bless all of you and thank you for all of your hard work I check EP daily.

And this is the same person who on Sunday, just 4/5 days ago, stated Ebola was nothing to worry about and they had it under control.

Why does the mainstream media not call that information out?

    Comparing Ebola with AIDS…

It’s like comparing Goliath and David, or in this case…

    The HULK and Peewee Herman.

Maybe he figured that the audience would be to dumbed down to know about the Black death, but I wish they’d give the public the credit for some smarts at least.

Dear Mr. Tom Frieden of the CDC, and Our President of the MICROSOFT Mr Bill Gates must understand that this is not a correct way of attacking the African People and community, the proof is out there that they have Patents for these and many other diseases.
We need to pray for these people to go back in the LIGHT, and their actions be reversed.
    Have a blessed day
