General: If Ebola reaches Central America, ‘there will be mass migration into the U.S.’

October 2014HEALTHThose looking for good news on the fight against Ebola will not find much encouragement from Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly, the commander of the U.S. Southern Command. As Jim Garamone of Department of Defense News reports, Kelly told an audience at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday that, if the disease reaches Central America, “it’s literally, ‘Katie bar the door,’ and there will be mass migration into the United States.” He also said with certainty that “there is no way we can keep Ebola [contained] in West Africa. By the end of the year, there’s supposed to be 1.4 million people infected with Ebola and 62 percent of them dying, according to the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention]… So, much like West Africa, it will rage for a period of time,” Kelly said. This is particularly possible scenario if the disease gets to Haiti or Central America, he said. If the disease gets to countries like Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador, it will cause a panic and people will flee the region, the general said.“If it breaks out, it’s literally, ‘Katie bar the door,’ and there will be mass migration into the United States,” Kelly said. “They will run away from Ebola, or if they suspect they are infected, they will try to get to the United States for treatment.”
Kelly said that human trafficking could be an additional wrinkle in the battle to contain the disease. He related a disturbing anecdote from a recent visit to Central America where some men from Liberia were headed to the United States: Also, transnational criminal networks smuggle people and those people can be carrying Ebola, the general said. Kelly spoke of visiting the border of Costa Rica and Nicaragua with U.S. embassy personnel. At that time, a group of men “were waiting in line to pass into Nicaragua and then on their way north,” he recalled. “The embassy person walked over and asked who they were and they told him they were from Liberia and they had been on the road about a week,” Kelly continued. “They met up with the network in Trinidad and now they were on their way to the United States — illegally, of course.” Those men, he said, “could have made it to New York City and still be within the incubation period for Ebola.” Earlier this year, General Kelly gave some chilling testimony about the limitations on the United States’s ability to protect the southern border: In spring hearings before the Senate and House Armed Services Committees, Kelly said that budgets cuts are “severely degrading” the military’s ability to defend southern approaches to the U.S border. Last year, he said, his task force was unable to act on nearly 75 percent of illicit trafficking events. “I simply sit and watch it go by,” he said. But the potential threats are even greater. Kelly warned that neglect has created vulnerabilities that can be exploited by terrorist groups, describing a “crime-terror convergence” already seen in Lebanese Hezbollah’s involvement in the region. –The Weekly Standard

i just watched this video- thank you for posting it, what a fair and compassionate assessment of the poor man. they have shared a part of the bigger story.

and here i have just learned yet another piece of Mr Duncan’s whole story
      http://www.ibtimes.com/us-ebola-patient-thomas-duncans-last-words-were-see-his-estranged-son-1702096
“A pastor revealed the final words of Thomas Duncan, who was diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S. in September and died Wednesday at a hospital in Dallas, during a memorial service for the Liberian national. When a nurse asked Duncan what he wanted, he responded that he wanted to see his estranged son, the pastor told CNN.
“He was proud of his son,” George Mason, senior pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, said during a prayer service for Duncan Wednesday evening. “[The nurse] asked him then where his son was. [Duncan] said he was in college ‘where he should be,’ and he was proud of his son.”
Duncan’s 19-year-old son, Kasiah Eric Duncan, is a student at San Angel State University, Texas, according to Mail Online. Kasiah Duncan came to the U.S. with his mother, Louise Troh, when he was 3 years old and had not seen his father since. Thomas Duncan had recently come to America to marry Troh, who remains in quarantine with her 13-year-old son and two nephews. Kasiah Duncan and his mother watched the prayer service via a live stream…”

my heart is breaking, its all too sad… now i see the fuller context of his words to his neighbors back in his hometown, that he was going to America and “would return in two years to build his home” – that pregnant girl he tried to help, who died, was 19- THE SAME AGE AS HIS SON WHOM HE HADNT KNOWN IN 16 YEARS- Mr Duncan came to the US to fix the problems of his past, to revive the beautiful thing they’d once shared and to reclaim his family! He’d planned to make right with his former love and their son, and bring them back HOME in a safe time after the plague has passed. HE CAME HERE TO ACHIEVE THE BEST KIND OF DREAM- and was on his way (its been in print that Miss Troh was his ‘fiance’- they had gotten engaged) HE WAS TRULY INTENDING TO REBUILD HIS HOME
He did not come here in an attempt to save his own life, believing he had Ebola – he likely did not realize he’d been exposed to it at all (remember, until members of the girl’s family became sick themselves days after Duncan was in the States, they had insisted their daughter had died of ‘Malaria and Pregnancy Complications’ which is common and plausible… at the time no one knew the poor girl was the unlucky Patient 0 to their small compound)
And now Ebola has destroyed his dream and his life and perhaps the hopes and lives of all of them.

And if there is an outbreak in North America, the flow will be in the other direction.

But which ever way the traffic flows, it’s going to be really ugly. It’s just a matter of time now till society crumbles and all hell breaks loose.

This documentary may well be the ‘best case’ scenario should Ebola go Pandemic…

    After Armageddon

My advice, find somewhere isolated to live for the next 10 – 15 years, till the Ebola and societal collapse burns out.

Exactly a situation this administration would probably love.

I can see deployment of National Guard and local militia’s, a blood bath ensuing…

Already there is a report of the mosquito virus in Latin America.

This post reminds me of the movie “After Armeggedon”. General Kelly’s statements about Haiti, Central America are very sobering. Until I read this post, I was thinking that Ebola will simply be contained in Africa with a few cases popping up in western countries where they would be resolved. This statement by General Kelly should be a red flag to all of us, because it looks like it is just a matter of time, and the virus will hit Haiti, and Central America. It’s Y2K time again….except this time I think it is going to be for real, and not some theoretical computer programming glitch. We know Ebola is real. Y2K was just a theory. The 2012 Mayan Calendar event was even fantasy/theory. But, Ebola is REAL. Time to “rev” up all the preps. Forget about that vacation in Hawaii, it’s time to figure out where to bug out to so that you can be in isolation for a few years.

I have prepared but I feel being only 90 miles east of LA is going to be a disaster. Im praying for mandkind! Ebola is real. And quite possibly the man that the feds are after in the new video is the one to give it to us somewhere? Everyone on Extinction Protocol hold on and take cover. God Bless you all.

Why aren’t they closing the west African boarders or putting some type of quarantine period in place for those people who must travel? It appears they are just allowing people to move between ebola affected countries & non affected countries freely.

“. . . Kelly said that budgets cuts are ‘severely degrading’ the military’s ability to defend southern approaches to the U.S border.”

So . . . due to budgetary issues (the ongoing “sequester”), there is, then, in essence, no one to bar the door? Is this a coincidence or another cog in the machine: “. . . a strategy aiming to take down America’s economy by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands.”

I think it’s time to close the border with Mexico and cancel all air traffic with West Africa. People from affected countries should not be allowed to enter the US. It’s better to be safe than sorry. But unfortunately for now government is taking political decisions rather than medical and realistic…

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

There is no cure for Ebola.

The best ‘cure’ available now is to keep Ebola out of the U.S.
