Former U.S. Ebola patient readmitted to hospital; Dallas Ebola patient in critical condition

October 2014HEALTHAn American patient treated for Ebola in Nebraska then released is now in isolation in a hospital in Massachusetts. And an Ebola patient in Dallas has slipped into critical condition. Dr. Richard Sacra, who had been previously treated for Ebola, went to an emergency room early Saturday in Boston with a cough and fever, said missionary organization Serving in Mission. He was afraid he might have pneumonia. Because of his previous infection, he was transferred to the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, the center said in a statement. Doctors there don’t believe his symptoms point to a recurrence of Ebola, but instead a respiratory infection. But they are keeping Sacra in isolation, in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, until the CDC gives the all clear. “We’re waiting for final test results from the CDC, which we expect to receive late Monday,” said lead physician Dr. Robert Finberg. Sacra had worked as a medical missionary in Liberia but not directly with Ebola patients. Nevertheless, he contracted the disease. He was treated in isolation at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha then released after testing negative for the virus.
Thomas Eric Duncan, the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States, is now in critical condition, a Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital spokeswoman said Saturday. The Liberian man had previously been listed as being in serious condition. Hospital spokeswoman Candace White offered no new details other than his condition. Earlier, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Duncan was in intensive care. About 10 people are at “higher risk” of catching Ebola after coming into contact with Duncan but have shown no symptoms, health officials said Saturday. The group is among 50 people being monitored daily, but the other 40 are considered “low risk,” said Dr. David Lakey, the commissioner of Texas department of state health services. The nine people who had definite contact with the Ebola patient — including family members and health care professionals — have been monitored and show no symptoms or fevers, Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Saturday. “We have already gotten well over 100 inquiries of possible patients,” Frieden told reporters. “We’ve assessed every one of those … and just this one patient has tested positive … we expect that we will see more rumors or concerns or possibilities of cases, until there is a positive laboratory test, that is what they are.”
Health officials did not provide details on the location of those being monitored or where they interacted with Duncan. Monitoring includes a visit from a public health expert and temperature checks twice a day. None of them has had symptoms of Ebola so far, according to Lakey. The latest figure is a drastic reduction of a number that had originally been put at 100 after initial talks with Duncan and hospital officials. Duncan landed in Dallas on September 20, and started feeling sick days later. He made his initial visit to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on September 25. He was released with antibiotics but went back three days later and was quickly isolated. A blood test Tuesday confirmed he had Ebola, the first case of the deadly virus diagnosed on American soil. –CNN

There was a report on Fox News this morning that a Dallas County (not sure if that is designation right) Judge removed the occupants of the infected apartment and relocated them personally to another residence; Moving them without the benefit of protective clothing and such. He went into the apartment………That is the story…..

How stupid. It is like a song I heard in the 1960’s in which a person found a snake dying in the cold and brought it into their house and after the snake warmed, it bit the person who rescued it and the person inquired “Why did you bit me and the snake answered “You knew I was snake when you brought me in here”

One of the Liberians waiting for fellow Liberians on the Newark plane summed it up this way “All the people brought here are cured from Ebola but there they die. America is a great country.” No wonder infected Liberians are flying to the USA, free medical treatment and they expect to be cured.

I find it interesting that so much was made of the map in the Batman movie that showed Sandy Hook. That said, to those who see such things as “in your face” by the evil PTB – of interest to you all is the 1998 movie “X-Files” where at about 40 minutes into the movie, Mulder confers in an alley with Martin Landau’s character who predicts Mulder a catastrophic virus outbreak – and guess where? Dallas, Texas!

What happened to those two, you know the doctor and nurse who were supposely healed. Now word from them. Were they real or actors to this? How come they were supposely given the serum and was healed. These others in the US are given nothing and are dying. What is going on here

“… we expect that we will see more rumors or concerns or possibilities of cases, UNTIL THERE IS A POSITIVE LABORATORY TEST, that is what they are… ”
Oh Mr F… i feel so reassured!

time to further stigmatize everybody’s favourite loose end…

although please note in the text of the story, the fellah is labelled as being a Low Risk Individual. so chances are, his exposure likely amounted to at some point being handed some pocket change by Mr. Duncan. and that most likely before Mr Duncan fell ill… because, of course, once a person is fighting the effects of ebola they are probably less concerned for the economic status of their fellow traveler.

…later on in the article, i must say i am impressed with the way Mr F invokes pluralis maiestatis in taking credit for stopping all outbreaks of ebola in the world. Very smooth

here is the first chapter of Thomas Duncan’s story… and the last chapter of the story of the girl he tried to help. Her name was Marthalene Williams. She was 19 years old, and 7 months pregnant. Her family, who were the landlords of Mr Duncan, desperately believed she was ill with pregnancy complications and malaria.

this story is tragic beyond all words to tell it. and it is just one of many thousands more just like it. EVERY human family touched by this plague become its Victims.

I have been hearing that Nano Silver will stop Ebola…don’t know much about it but know people who swear by it …virus, flu, etc…they stay well because they take it.

Maybe immpeccable speech would have this read as follows.

‘First of Diagnosed that IS MADE PUBLIC’

  11. Yellow Bird says:

“who would think one 2 year old could turn the entire world upside down?” …indeed it once was said (in altogether different context) that “A little child would lead them”

Ebola in USA – I Agree with Judge Jeanie Pirro about what to do!

The 1918 Flu Virus Pandemic infected over 500 million people across the world, including the USA, remote Pacific islands and the Arctic, and killed 50 to 100 million of them, that’s a 10 to 20 percent death rate.

A large factor in the worldwide occurrence of this flu was increased travel. Modern transportation systems made it easier for soldiers, sailors, and civilian travelers to spread the disease.

Now we have the Ebola Virus….. With a 70 to 90 percent death rate.
