Ebola deaths skyrocket: 56 dead in two days – total cases near 2,000 mark

August 2014AFRICA – There have been 56 more deaths in a 48-hour period in West Africa’s Ebola outbreak, bringing the total number of fatalities to 1,069. The vast majority of deaths have been in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. There have also been three deaths in Nigeria, following the worst-ever outbreak which began in March. In the two days to August 11, there were 128 new cases, meaning a total of 1,975, according to the World Health Organization. Many of the dead are health workers, who are often working with inadequate supplies and protection. Among the victims is the first European – a Spanish priest who died on Tuesday in a Madrid hospital after being infected while treating Ebola patients in Liberia. Several hundred mourners have attended a funeral service for missionary Miguel Pajares in the capital. The 75-year-old man was cremated shortly after he died and his ashes were taken in an urn in a black hearse to the chapel of San Rafael hospital. He had been treated with an experimental US serum, ZMapp. The drug is also being used on two Americans, Dr Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol, in the US who were infected with the disease in Liberia.
Meanwhile, a consignment of ZMapp has arrived by plane in Liberia to treat two doctors suffering from the virus. It will be taken to the John F Kennedy Memorial hospital in the capital Monrovia and administered to doctors Zukunis Ireland and Abraham Borbor. It comes after Liberia’s presidency said the US has approved a request for sample doses of the drug to be sent to the country. Guinea is considering asking for access to the vaccine and has declared the outbreak a “health emergency.” Ebola has a fatality rate of up to 90%. A senior doctor in England, virologist Christopher Logue, is travelling to Guinea to help deal with the crisis by leading laboratory tests on people who may have come into contact with the virus. –Sky News

    This is exponential.
2,000 cases today equals 10,000 cases within a few weeks.

The W.H.O. reported that this epidemic would be confined to West Africa. It seems they are now deeming Kenya is at large risk. Unless my geography has suffered, Kenya seems to be a long way from West Africa.

If the virus eventually gets down to South Africa with their massive amount of HIV positive populations then the case and fatality numbers will soar.

And now, affected countries have instituted a “cordon sanitaire” to isolate the areas hardest-hit: “Centuries ago, in their most extreme form, everyone within the boundaries was left to die or survive, until the outbreak ended.”

They are just names and they just symbolize all males/females. Humanity is responsible for their own horror, always have been.

HHumanity’s evolutionary process is about to make a leap forwards I believe, and play catch-up for procrastinating.

It is quite terrifying to be ungraciously woken up to smell the coffee.

It’s only going to get worse before it gets better. Especially since there is no vaccine.

I don’t mean to be a fear-monger and I’m not panicking but I have some honest questions that I think a lot of people are also wanting to understand. I am a nurse and I have worked in an ICU for a number of years with patients who had common colds and “air-born” flus, HIV, end-stage AIDS, pneumonias, staph, MRSA, TB, West-Nile, and the dreaded flesh-eating bacteria. Many of these patients we didn’t know what they had for several days, so we were exposed without taking proper precautions until the tests came back. Fortunately, I never contracted any of these potentially deadly diseases. Yes, I’m young and healthy…as are many of the health care workers coming down with Ebola in West Africa. So my question is, if influenza and the common cold is “easy” to transmit and ebola is not, WHY are so many trained professionals getting this virus. I know they certainly don’t have the unlimited resources (gloves and other protective gear) at their disposal, but it certainly makes a person think that this virus is easier to transmit than the “professionals” are saying. Also, “they” also say that you are not contagious unless you are symptomatic, but I’ve read in research articles that a person can transmit the virus up to 61 days in semen after recovery. They need to quarentine suspected cases, they need to get unnecessary foreigners out of the hot-spots, but they need more people on the ground fighting this outbreak. Sending money is not going to do much and will probably end up in the wrong pockets. Sending trained professionals and supplies will be the most effective. This is a raging viral war and we cannot expect the poorest countries of the world to contain this now. The longer this outbreak lasts, the longer time the virus has time to mutate. With hospitals closing, health professionals striking, foreign aid organizations pulling out, this will create a massive vacuum of pathological porportions.

I read where there will be vaccines available by next month to test out on Ebola cases. I also learned that vaccines will be available to the public by 2015. There is some controversy about making the vaccines mandatory. I, myself, will not take the vaccine. I am going to refuse it. Scary and deadly components make up the vaccines. Stock up on N95 masks, food, water, and the like. I truly believe we are about to enter something extremely horrendous in the next few months. It could be even several weeks. Please pray and hug your loved ones everyday. God is our refuge and strength in times of trouble. God bless all!
