Yellowstone: supervolcano eruption would last for ‘many months,’ possibly even ‘years’

July 2014YELLOWSTONE An eruption of the Yellowstone National Park supervolcano could last for over a year. The park sits on top of the world’s largest active volcano, which erupted around 640,000 years ago and sent ash across most of North America. The two other recorded eruptions are 1.3 million and 2.1 million years ago. While discussing the effects of an eruption, supervolcano scientist Bob Smith told NBC that an eruption could last for a long time. “These giant eruptions in Yellowstone – the supervolcano, if you wish — probably last many, many months, maybe even years,” Smith said. The story also discussed news that is actually six months old–that Smith and other scientists discovered that the magma pool underneath the volcano is about 2.5 times larger than previously thought.
They found that the cavern stretches for more than 55 miles. “We’ve been working there for a long time, and we’ve always thought it would be bigger… but this finding is astounding,” Smith, who is a professor at the University of Utah, told BBC at the time. The team used a network of seismometers to map the gigantic chamber. “We record earthquakes in and around Yellowstone, and we measure the seismic waves as they travel through the ground,” said Dr. Jamie Farrell, also of the University of Utah. “The waves travel slower through hot and partially molten material… with this, we can measure what’s beneath.” One theory is that eruptions happen every 700,000 years ago, but Smith said more data is needed to back that theory up. “If we were to have another big eruption, it would affect a large area, on the order of several states,” Smith said. “But, as I said, that probability is very, very, very, very small. In my calculations, it’s .0001 percent.” –Epoch Times

According to the texts hidden by Nostradamus, there will be a strong south westerly blowing at the time. On communicating with friends in Texas and NY state, that is really quite unusual

How do they know when it is going to erupt? They are not God. I guess the road that is melting is just a coincidence. It happens. Right? Try fooling people again.

I think that there is a chance we could see some action here.
Reports on the internet are saying that geothermal activity is on the increase in recent weeks.

The article states: “One theory is that eruptions happen every 700,000 years ago, but Smith said more data is needed to back that theory up. “If we were to have another big eruption, it would affect a large area, on the order of several states,” Smith said. “But, as I said, that probability is very, very, very, very small. That is absurd. How can the probability be .0001 percent when the volcano has erupted somewhat regularly every 700,000 years? Given the history of the last 3 major eruptions, it seems almost a certainty that it will occur again, whether tomorrow or in another 60 thousand years.

    From Wikipedia:

“The caldera formed during the last of three supereruptions over the past 2.1 million years. First came the Huckleberry Ridge eruption 2.1 million years ago, which created the Island Park Caldera and the Huckleberry Ridge Tuff. Next came the Mesa Falls eruption 1.3 million years ago, which created the Henry’s Fork Caldera and the Mesa Falls Tuff. Finally came the Lava Creek eruption 640,000 years ago, which created the Yellowstone Caldera and the Lava Creek Tuff.”

    • Geologists are the only people I know who spend years of their lives educating themselves, so they can find what’s been dubiously hidden thousands of years ago, only to find it and then deny it can ever “conceivably” happen again.

That’s what we get for thinking there was only one branch of science that dealt with insanity

      2.1M –> 1.3M = 800K years between eruptions.
      1.3M –> 640K = 660K years between eruptions.

Based on these numbers, why wouldn’t we assume that the time between eruptions is decreasing? It’s been 640,000 years since the last one, which means we’re probably overdue.

I don’t listen to “experts” who believe they can predict nature’s activities. The Earth and the universe does what they want to and we’re just along for the ride.

Dear L. Edwards, not to get in some kind of ‘battle’, but your comment can be somewhat disturbing.
The planets and universe had to be created by a Superior Being. All of this magic organization of
      the Universe cannot be happenstance.
Since this Superior Being created all of these wonders, He would obviously be in command of all that He created.

The thing of it is, that God our Almighty Father and Creator loves all of his children – you, L. and me, no matter what. And, He wants all of His children to return to Him in the New Paradise.
Hope to see you there. Love conquers all.

Anne… I dont find L Edwards comment disturbing at all.

When IT created our wonders, all its children were to co-create. Since we destruct…. (the only ones with the privilege of ‘free will’) well we will be riding the waves once IT blows its TOP.

‘NEW Paradise’ will be returned. With you, with L, with me…. or maybe not.
