Strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake shakes southern Greece

Greece June 15
June 16, 2013ATHENSA moderate 6.2-magnitude earthquake rumbled off the southern coast of the Greek island of Crete Saturday, according to the US Geological Survey, but there was no immediate warning of a tsunami. The earthquake struck at 6:11 p.m. (1611 GMT) around 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of the town of Pirgos at a depth of 10 kilometers, the USGS said, adding that there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. According to the Athens Observatory, it was a “very strong” quake which it put at a magnitude of 5.9 and said its epicenter was located 483 kilometers southeast of Athens in the Mediterranean. The quake was especially felt in the city of Ierapetra on Crete, it added. About 10 days ago, a quake was also registered off of Crete, which did not cause any casualties or damage. Greece is the European country that is most frequently hit by earthquakes. A 6.0 magnitude earthquake also struck south of Kermadec Islands, making this the third 6.0+ magnitude earthquake to strike the planet in 24 hours. –Inquirer

Hi Alvin. There has just been this morning another big earthquake South of Pirgos on the Island of Crete, Greece at a magnitude of 5.8 on the richter scale according to USGS but according to Geoscience Australia it was a magnitude of 6.1. According to Geoscience Australia there has now been no less than 8 MAJOR(6.0 and above) earthquakes so far this month starting on the 2nd of June with the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan. There is a sharp increase in MAJOR quakes taking place at the moment. Nothing too deadly as yet thank god. But I think it is only a short matter of time before a really devastating quake strikes. What are your own thoughts on this?

    • The planet is on the cusp of major change…and past the earthquakes is something even more compelling and dramatic on the horizon.
