Weird, smelly mystery foam oozes through cracks in Chinese streets

May 14, 2013CHINASomething very strange started oozing out of the streets in the Chinese city of Nanjing on Saturday night. Generally, when weird things start erupting from the ground in Asian countries it’s in the form of a giant b-movie monster, but this invasion was a whole lot realer, and a whole lot smellier. At around 9PM, pedestrians began to notice the pavement at the Wende Baiyun Lane cross intersection started to crack and split open, and before long, a foamy white substance was spewing from the cracks, brimming with it a foul-smelling stench. Within a short time, the foam had spread to a 50 meter radius and stood a foot high. According to the Chinese news outlet Longhoo, firefighters and police rushed to rope off the scene, evacuating civilians and helping redirect the flow of traffic from the flow of ooze. A short time later, the strange substance stopped leaking and the remnants that weren’t quickly washed into the sewers retreated back into the one centimeter wide cracks in the road, leaving authorities baffled as to what the stinking foam could have been. An investigation has been started into the case of the smelly ooze, but so far, the only rational explanation that officials can come to is that the ‘Godzilla barf’ might be related to nearby subway construction, though even that theory hasn’t answered many questions. What do you think of the weird stinking foam? Did some subterranean monster used a bit too much detergent? –WFB

Seems like a cocktail of chemicals, I live btw next to the filthiest sea in the world(baltic sea) and here its been a slow massdeath. Seabirds are pretty much gone, top predators like seal and eagles are full of poison. New chemicals like ptfe and combined effects with other chemicals is slowly killing all life(birth defects, thin eggshells, weak newborns etc). Pretty bad situation right now, where u used to catch a lot of fish 20yrs ago its totally dead

So much weird stuff going on beneath us where we can’t see: the earthquakes, volcanic activity at unbelievable levels, the sinkholes, ground liquification, and stuff like described in this article. Add to that the asteroid flybys, comets, large numbers of ‘fireballs’ we’ve been getting, and solar activity. We are, right now, living in ‘interesting times.’ Let’s hope they don’t get a lot more interesting.

I believe some company dumped a detergent down a sewer and this is the result.

Thar’s my thought too… They didn’t even describe what the smell was either. It is in a city, so it could be a toxic or chemical waste leakage…

      • I have lived in the bottom floor apartment of a block in Kogarah. If the sump clogged up it came. Some queries revealed that poo and dishwater and washing machine water go into the same pipeline so frothy poo smelling water is very likely from a sewage line and it could have been crushed by nearby construction blocking the flow and making a pipe rupture. The flow has since renewed as the puddle went down, but to dig up the site and repair the sewage leak would stop environmental contamination as all that detergent softens up the undersurfaces and makes it possible for poo to go into the water table, which is totally asking for a methane explosion at a later time.

  12. Or how about the effects of methane like when we have seen it foam up at the ocean beaches maybe a water leak with methane to foam up out of the earth and a sulfur-mix smell was what stunk! We need Paul Harvey for the rest of the Story!!
