Earth opens up in massive landslide on Whidbey Island, off the coast of Washington

March 28, 2013 WASHINGTONA chunk of Whidbey Island off the coast of Washington slid into water early this morning, forcing the evacuation of 34 homes. At one home at the new cliff edge, a steady stream of soil can be seen leaking out from beneath the building. Authorities are continuing to monitor a house where there’s still slide activity, as dirt continues to slough off the cliff, said Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue Chief Ed Hartin. Fire and Rescue went to a home around 4 a.m. this morning in Coupeville on Whidbey Island, Wash., to find it had been pushed off its foundation. Hartin told ABCNews.com that when he arrived, the home was already a considerable distance down the cliff by the water. The landslide stretched across 400 to 500 yards and the earth dropped 600 to 700 yards down to the water, reported ABC’s Seattle affiliate KOMO, with trees and tons of dirt smashing into homes down below and wiping out a road. Somehow no one was injured. Hartin said rescuers used ATVs to reach the home that had slid down the cliff.
He said the residents had escaped before the cliff dropped. Of the 34 homes being evacuated, 17 are below the cliff and were isolated, cut off from the rest of the island by tons of rock, dirt and tress and wiped out the road as well as electrical and water connections, said Hardin. Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said these residents of these homes are being evacuated by rescue boats to a temporary shelter. Another 17 homes on the top of the cliff are also being evacuated, as many residents lost portions of their waterfront property to the landslide, said Hartin. “Where the soil dropped, it forms a sheer cliff,” said Brown. “At the top of that cliff, you’ve got people’s backyard that went from 60 feet to now 10 feet.” Whidbey Island is one of two islands in Island County, Wash. The area is home to a mix of both year-long residents and vacation home owners. “Landslides are not a total uncommon event on the island,” Hartin said. Susan Berta, who lived on Whidbey Island for nearly 14 years, told ABCNews.com that the geology of the island is “a constant slow moving active landslide. When there’s a lot of moisture and freezing and thawing – which we’ve been having — what happens is the water goes down the clay layers (of the bluffs), and they become more liquid and just start sliding.” The street that the landslide impacted “has sloughed off and slid pretty much off and on for the last twenty years, said Berta, who worked as a coordinator for a environmental program on the island that taught volunteers about the geology of the island, bluffs, and bluff erosion. “It’s not a surprise that it slid,” she said. “To me, what’s shocking is that so much went so fast.” Berta said her friend’s home on the cliff was impacted by the landslide, and she thinks he lost a considerable portion of his backyard to the event. She and other friends were trying to get together to help him clear out of the home, she said. “I knew that someday, something like this would happen,” she said. “I’m just shocked that so much of it went so quickly.” –ABC News

Man made tragedy to implement yet another gun grab and dislocation of people so they will not be ready for the upcoming revolution. Don’t believe me? Than do your own research, every storm, every earthquake, every sinkhole, every tsunami are all man made to destroy people’s power.

What are all the sinkholes, earth cracks and landslides telling us about what is happening across the world? Has this been ongoing throughout history and is it “normal” or are these situations foretelling soon to come major calamities? Do these things happen prior to major earthquakes or volanic eruptions?

Any geologist in the area will tell you that this is not worthy of Extinction Protocol, that the sandy cliffs around the Puget Sound region have been crumbling for eons. This is just a particularly large slide. Btw… “Off the coast of Washington” in itself is quite a stretch also… Just sayin’.

Maybe that’s why people keep buying and building houses along the cliff. “But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken into.” Matthew 24:43.

Alvin, you are right to post the variety of stories that you post. Some may think this type of story is insignificant (on a global scale). But truly all these stories fit together like pieces of a giant jig saw puzzle. Unfortunately very few are (or will be) able to see the big picture until it is way to late. May God continue to bless you and this site for as long as you are able to keep it going.

It’s up to the public; not censors, to interpret the significance of these unfolding events.

God bless you in kind, and thanks

And, literally and figuratively, Jesus said that the wise man would do well to not build his house upon the sand. Matthew 7:24-27: “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” Thank-you, Jesus.

Behold, a sower went forth to sow…

True. Everything in this world, we’ve relied on for centuries, will soon crumble and turn to dust. All that we’ll have left is the character, actions, and relationships we have groomed with great care, or neglected at the cost of great peril.

Yet they grant permits to build……I would imagine those that live there consider this a big deal.

I remember an owner of a home on the coast of California commenting after her home fell over a cliff. She had not been able to get insurance on it, but she vowed to build again at the same spot. Evidently, getting another building permit was not going to be a problem. Some people have more money than good sense.

I first heard about this on The Weather Channel. Later they were showing before and after pictures of the area. Amazing. But, although I’m sure the view is spectacular, the people who live on cliffs need to be aware that one day they could lose everything, even their lives. Thankfully, there were no lives lost in this landslide.

Interesting comment made by one of the locals, he heard what sounded like Thunder before the collapse.

My husband I have been living in Florida the last 10 years, however we lived in Langley on Whidbey Island for over 20 years…the one thing that I was concerned about that there was a large fault line running through the south end of the island…

Alvin have you taken a look at the quake activity over the last week all along the coast of the Pacific Northwest. Seems to me this was imminent. It seems that the entire coastal region of the west is cracking and fracturing. Here’s a link to what I saw on the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network as I plotted back a week. Astounding! The saddest part is that if these folks seem to be completely unaware of the danger. http://www.pnsn.org/tremor

    • Most are unaware of the danger. Assaults against the planet are increasing daily, from extreme weather events, to increasing seismicity and agitation along tectonic plates. Our planet is becoming more dynamic; and soon the effects of that change will be dramatic.

I pray that my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Not only me, but my family as well. What is frightening about all of these horrific events is; folks are engrossed in worldly cares, and ignoring what is really important in life. I, too, have been guilty of such things. My hope is in the coming of our Christ. Hopefully, He will be here soon to make His deliverance.
