If large asteroid is heading to Earth, ‘pray,’ is all we do, says NASA

March 20, 2013 SPACENASA chief Charles Bolden has advice on how to handle a large asteroid headed toward New York City: Pray. That’s about all the United States – or anyone for that matter – could do at this point about unknown asteroids and meteors that may be on a collision course with Earth, Bolden told lawmakers at a U.S. House of Representatives Science Committee hearing on Tuesday. An asteroid estimated to be have been about 55 feet in diameter exploded on February 15 over Chelyabinsk, Russia, generating shock waves that shattered windows and damaged buildings. More than 1,500 people were injured. Later that day, a larger, unrelated asteroid discovered last year passed about 17,200 miles from Earth, closer than the network of television and weather satellites that ring the planet. The events “serve as evidence that we live in an active solar system with potentially hazardous objects passing through our neighborhood with surprising frequency,” said Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson, a Texas Democrat. “We were fortunate that the events of last month were simply an interesting coincidence rather than a catastrophe,” said Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, a Texas Republican, who called the hearing to learn what is being done and how much money is needed to better protect the planet. NASA has found and is tracking about 95 percent of the largest objects flying near Earth, those that are .62 miles or larger in diameter. “An asteroid of that size, a kilometer or bigger, could plausibly end civilization,” White House science advisor John Holdren told legislators at the same hearing. But only about 10 percent of an estimated 10,000 potential “city-killer” asteroids, those with a diameter of about 165 feet have been found, Holdren added. On average, objects of that size are estimated to hit Earth about once every 1,000 years. “From the information we have, we don’t know of an asteroid that will threaten the population of the United States,” Bolden said. “But if it’s coming in three weeks, pray.” In addition to stepping up its monitoring efforts and building international partnerships, NASA is looking at developing technologies to divert an object that may be on a collision course with Earth. “The odds of a near-Earth object strike causing massive casualties and destruction of infrastructure are very small, but the potential consequences of such an event are so large it makes sense to takes the risk seriously,” Holdren said. About 66 million years ago, an object 6 miles in diameter is believed to have smashed into what is now the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, leading to the demise of the dinosaurs, as well as most plant and animal life on Earth. The asteroid that exploded over Russia last month was the largest object to hit Earth’s atmosphere since the 1908 Tunguska event when an asteroid or comet exploded over Siberia, leveling 80 million trees over more than 830 square miles (2,150 sq km). –Yahoo News

It’s an interesting statement and really out of the ordinary for some one to say it….something’s up and yes, if this makes people afrad, they need to seek The Lord for His our comfort and peace!

Your posts used to be of importance and were appreciated, now they seem to be mostly fear mongering about what ifs. There is enough to deal with in the world today without constantly always being handed something to worry about on a silver platter. Please go back to more of your posts that are informative and have REAL value….Thanks VK

These posts DO have real value. They are a “heads up” for all of us preppers. If you are not a prepper and do not want a “heads up” on possible disasters, then I guess this blog would not serve your purposes. But, the great majority of us want to have an “edge” on surviving, prosperity, and health.

VK, why would you worry? This only a fleeting journey in a much longer existence. If an asteroid weren impact was imminent, there is nothing you could possibly do about it, so why would you waste your time worrying? Worry only makes sense when agonizing over options that may affect the outcome.

I wouldn’t even bother to pray. If something of this magnitude were to occur, it would be a cosmic message that it is simply time for humanity to move on…to the next incarnation.

      Don’t dear, my friend.

Alvin, you continue to do great work. Keep it up!!!

A supposed scientist issued a warning of a half mile wide asteroid they found that will hit earth in 6 days somewhere between Canada and Mexico. Probably a hoax but the timing of all this asteroid news if funny.

    Alvin,
For the record, I don’t think your posts are fear mongering. Seems to me you post what other MSM choose to ignore. I’m no more frightened knowing what is being discussed than I would be wondering what is being discussed that isn’t reported.

    • I don’t create the news; we print it. If something can be gleaned from all the recent copious reports of practice drills and articles warning of looming threats…that’s an indication to fear less, and worry more.

There are some who believe that there is “something” huge headed toward us and it should be here within 3 weeks. If, it passes us by we shouldn’t have to worry for many more years to come. If, it hits us, we don’t have to worry at all! LOL! NASA does know!

it is now being reported that destroying an incoming asteroid would create more problems in that the explosion would create a large debris field of which many could be as large a bus or more and cause more damage. The main thought now and one I like is to land a device on the rock equipped with powerful engines to divert the rocks’ course, perhaps to the sun or on a course out of the system.

Many ministers who preach end of days events believe wormwood is an asteroid hitting the earth.
If you read Alvin’s second publication “The Seventh protocol” you would see how feasible this is.

Huh? “But if it’s coming in three weeks, pray.” Is that supposed to be some kind of a warning?? That’s such an odd statement. It does almost seem like a weird, cryptic warning. Like he’s not really supposed to say when but just throwing that out there hoping someone will pay attention? Or he’s just nutters… I’m a bit confused by that “information” or whatever you want to call it… But thank you Alvin… I DO appreciate your work! Really, this is where I get my news 🙂

If I may offer an alternate perspective on the comment “if its coming in 3 weeks, pray.” Perhaps he said that to show how inadequate our defensive protocols are in their current state, as in, if a meteor or any other large object came toward earth now or in 3 weeks (or any short amount of time) we could do nothing to stop it.
