4.7 magnitude quake shakes Los Angeles: residents told to prep for 2 weeks, and be prepared for disasters

March 12, 2013LOS ANGELES, CA An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 was reported in Anza, California. The quake was the first of several that popped up at the same time Monday on the U.S. Geological Survey website. It was originally reported as a 5.2 magnitude quake but was then downgraded. The epicenter for the 9:56 a.m. quake was 12 miles east of Anza and 16 miles southwest of Palm Desert. Near the epicenter, Palms Springs police Sgt. Harvey Reed told the Associated Press his department received no reports of damage or injuries. There were no other immediate reports of damage in the region. It happened along the San Jacinto fault between the San Andreas and the Elsinore faults. This is a fault famous for big earthquakes according to retired geology professor Pat Abbott, Ph.D. “There’s always that slight chance – slight chance now – that this could be the foreshock of something larger. Probably not. Usually this is just an event all by itself,” Abbot said. “It doesn’t hurt to keep it in mind, in the next 72 hours in particular,” he said. “If a larger one is going to occur it would probably be during that three-day period.” Residents were urged to prepare for a number of disaster scenarios, including how to cope for being at least “two weeks on your own. The message for a lot of us needs to be, ‘Be ready for anything’,” said Battalion Chief Larry Collins. “The message used to be 72 hours, but we’ve seen in disasters like [Hurricane] Katrina, even [Hurricane] Sandy recently, that, really, if it’s wiped out your infrastructure, and your electricity grid and your communications, it will be very likely be more than three days before you start getting food, water and other supplies coming in from outside.” –CBS NBC
Northern California hit by quake: (March 14) A small earthquake has jolted Northern California but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The U.S. Geological Survey says a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.6 struck at 2:09 a.m. Thursday in Lake County. It was centered near the small rural community of Cobb, about 70 miles northwest of Sacramento. Some reports say it was felt as far away as San Francisco, some 70 miles away. Seismic activity is common in the area. –Mercury News
New Madrid quake: A small earthquake measuring 2.7 magnitude hit near Benton in southern Illinois this morning but appears to have done little, if any, damage in the rural area. The quake occurred around 5 a.m. about 11 miles east of where Interstate 57 passes through Benton, the seat of Franklin County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The closest town is Macedonia, population 50. The Franklin County sheriff’s office said it had gotten no reports of injuries or damages. The quake hit to the north and west of what is called the New Madrid seismic zone. Strong earthquakes from the New Madrid fault and other faults in what’s known as the Illinois Basin-Ozark Dome area have hit southern Illinois and nearby parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Indiana and Kentucky over the years, including a series of devastating quakes in 1811 and 1812. The largest earthquake in the area in memory was in 1968 and registered a 5.4 magnitude, what the geological survey calls a moderately damaging quake. The last strong earthquake to hit southern Illinois was in April 2008, when a 5.2 magnitude quake struck near West Salem, affecting areas including Mount Carmel, about 80 miles east of Benton. –Chicago Tribune
Seismic watch: The planet has now entered a window of elevated risks for a major earthquake to strike somewhere on the planet from now, through March 23, 2013. People in seismically high-risk regions should remain alert and prepared for the potential occurrence or occurrences of seismic events and their associated hazards. –The Extinction Protocol

A week, really, then not much preparation by the state or fed. If this test gets out of hand then people could get to use a FEMA camp, finally.

‘probably not’…… I’d be taking this very seriously if I were living in California. I cant believe every single person on earth can’t see how frequent these events are these days. If we make it through 2013 it will surely go down as one of the most volatile in our history. Unless of course it keeps getting worse and worse as has been the case of late.

  5. the next earthquake in the 188 cycle is the 7th. a huge earthquake at this time just as Obama is going to Israel to broker a peace deal -the new pope is being elected- the Chinese are gearing up for war with japan the Koreans are saying they are going to nuke the USA. and here we are all this is happening in and around march 22 or 322 which is the number for skull and bones. Call me a cynic but none of this is by chance.

And at times, preppers have been demonized as terrorists, lunatics and right wing extremists when many are really just ordinary people who have the fore sight to see coming dangers and take the responsibility to prepare and not be on the streets of America burning and looting during a crisis.
There is sound wisdom in this posting and perhaps some will heed the alert.

Yes but you preppers are always saying that dooms day is near and it never is. It is like the little boy who cries wolf one too many times. When the wolf finally shows up at the door nobody believes the little boy anymore. Nobody can predict the exact time and day that the world will end. If somebody gets it right it will be just a lucky guess not ESP or some divine connection with god.

Sapphire2006: Dennis E. Here: That would exactly not be true in all cases. For example. About 18 years ago I was in a winter storm that dropped 17 inches of snow where I lived. I had electricity but the cities water pump failed and we had no water for 4 days. Also, there was a lack of paper support in the necessary room and I lived across a four lane from a Wal-mart that was closed due to the weather. Later I had to drive 13 miles to the military base I was stationed to buy provisions when the roads somewhat cleared and take showers there. Not going to have that problem again I hope. If a person comes to this site regularly he or she knows that the earth is changing whether its by mans hand or cycle.

If goverment officials themselves promote a level of prepareness, then it would be wise to consider that. I do think some PREPPERS take preparation maybe too too too far and let anxiety and paranoid weigh in on their decision making rather than sound logic.

We all prepare in some way. But as for being a doomsayer, I say not, than I am. I know as a child my family canned food for a rainy day or when we couldn’t buy or get to a store. It is only sound reason but there are others who prey on fear and whats to or might come. If I prep, it is to survive a natural disaster and to be able to care for my family. The most dangerous person is the one who has a hungry stomach or hungry children. You must be able sort out those who are over board and those who are prudent………….

During this escalation of negative tensions within the continental plates, the patterns of weather, the core of the earth, and the detritus-littered vacuum of space, while governments align themselves against each other and in opposition to their own citizens and dictators, void of ruth and merit, grind their own “subjects” under the merciless stomping treads of tyranny, as mass-extinction claims species after species and spreads worldwide like a universal pathogen and pathogens themselves appear as though from spontaneous conception, without record, precedent, or known point of origin, I bristle at the suggestion that the truth is a cry of “wolf”, a LIE, when, from where I stand, be it nature, technology, or man’s inhumanity to man, we are SURROUNDED by wolves. I suggest that you open your eyes and your mind to this reality, or, when the wolf “finally” shows up at the door, you might just find that the lie is your own, that you have lived it, the one that says “peace and security” while the end begins around you. You might also consider that some of us do have a divine connection to God; it’s a Bible. You can have a connection too. Post your address, and I’ll mail you one, because, within its pages, numerous authors from two distinct generations of faith warn of events that are to precede the last days . . . and we are there. Which means, so are you, whether you like it or not.

On my comment sent to you on March 7, I mentioned the new moon over our west coast ai 1:15 PDT ( which is almost high noon). The increased tidal effect may have contributed to this event, and could be the preshock for the main event at the southern end ot the San Joaquin valley (north) or the Gulf of California (south).

The government is telling people to be prepared just in case a disaster should strike. It doesn’t mean it will happen in the next few days. Yes during a disaster you are pretty much on your own. Emergency services will be over whelmed with the disaster. People should take responsibility for themselves and their immediate family. It is just common sense. The government is always telling people to be prepared in case a disaster should strike. There is nothing odd about this reminder. The government is just covering their ass just in case. Nobody can predict when a major earthquake is going to hit.

People are indeed sound asleep. I wonder what it will take to wake them up? There are so many people who seem to be unconcerned about what is happening in and around them. I believe people have become too complacent with their lives. If you say anything about what is happening, they give you “that look.” Some folks will tell you they don’t want to hear it! I know a lot of people who do not follow the news anymore, because they say it depresses them. We are living in very troubled times. Stay close to God, and keep praying.

Seems like a lot of people have done what society programmed them to do as far as focusing on material objects. After all that is how you are graded on approval in our society. Material objects are not lasting, but your soul is everlasting. If you lose everything in a disaster and you have no spiritual development, you are left with nothing. It is very hard to even imagine the disasters that we need, to wake up the world. We cannot keep going in the direction that we are going until we destroy the earth with weapons of mass destruction! I think the major upcoming planetary changes will change the priorities of people. I thought it was interesting that the governments remote viewers,(video posted here recently under comments) saw a future time when all the soldiers were looking up to the sky, then laid their weapons down and went home. We are told about this event in the bible. Keep the source of love, shining in your heart! Be kind and compassionate towards others.

Prepare For Two Weeks On Your Own

Fire officials were on hand to remind the public of what a similar quake could mean for Southern California.

“A lot of people don’t realize that we are earthquake prone in California, but we also could get a tsunami,” Los Angeles County Fire Asst. Chief David Stone said. “We just haven’t had one in a long time.”

*** Residents were urged to prepare for a number of disaster scenarios, including how to cope for being at least “two weeks on your own”.

Agree with you Angel. I live 10 mts south from Hemet in a two story home. In the last few years our home cracks and hums at any sismic movement in th eareas of Anza, Redlands. San Bernardino and even Mexically; this time we felt NOTHING, zero, nada. My niece and I were in the house and we found out through the news. I am quite surprised that they are issuing such an alert.

  16. prep for two weeks in LA? if only they’d prep at all. It’s my understanding that in major metro areas the vast amount of people rarely keep any groceries at all, only a few days at most, unless you’re going to possibly count liquor. And even then, they usually drink out, as they usually eat out too.
