Pope Benedict stepping down, cites poor health: world shudders at Malachy’s prophecy of the End of the World

February 11, 2013VATICAN Pope Benedict shocked the world on Monday by saying he no longer had the mental and physical strength to cope with his ministry, in an announcement that left his aides “incredulous” and will make him the first pontiff to step down since the Middle Ages. The German-born Pope, 85, hailed as a hero by conservative Roman Catholics and viewed with suspicion by liberals, told cardinals in Latin that his strength had deteriorated recently. He will step down on February 28 and the Vatican expects a new Pope to be chosen by the end of March. Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said the Pope had not decided to resign because of “difficulties in the papacy” and the move had been a surprise, indicating that even his inner circle was unaware that he was about to quit. The Pope does not fear schism in the Church after his resignation, the spokesman said. The Pope’s leadership of 1.2 billion Catholics has been beset by child sexual abuse crises that tarnished the Church, one address in which he upset Muslims and a scandal over the leaking of his private papers by his personal butler. The pope told the cardinals that in order to govern “…both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me. “For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter.” He also referred to “today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith.” The last Pope to resign willingly was Celestine V in 1294 after reigning for only five months, his resignation was known as “the great refusal” and was condemned by the poet Dante in the “Divine Comedy.” Gregory XII reluctantly abdicated in 1415 to end a dispute with a rival claimant to the papacy. Before he was elected Pope, the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was known by such critical epithets as “God’s Rottweiler” because of his stern stand on theological issues. But after several years into his new job Benedict showed that he not only did not bite but barely even barked. In recent months, the pope has looked increasingly frail in public, sometimes being helped to walk by those around him. Lombardi ruled out depression or uncertainty as being behind the resignation, saying the move was not due to any specific illness, just advancing age. The Pope had shown “great courage, determination” aware of the “great problems the church faces today,” he said, adding the timing may have reflected the Pope’s desire to avoid the exhausting rush of Easter engagements. There was no outside pressure and Benedict took his “personal decision” in the last few months, he added. Israel’s Chief Rabbi praised Benedict’s inter-faith outreach and wished him good health. The Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the Anglican Church, said he had learned of the Pope’s decision with a heavy heart but complete understanding. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the Pope’s decision must be respected if he feels he is too weak to carry out his duties. British Prime Minister David Cameron said: “He will be missed as a spiritual leader to millions.” The pontiff would step down from 2 p.m. ET on February 28, leaving the office vacant until a successor was chosen to Benedict who succeeded John Paul, one of history’s most popular pontiffs, the spokesman said. Elected to the papacy on April 19, 2005 when he was 78 – 20 years older than John Paul was when he was elected – Benedict ruled over a slower-paced, more cerebral and less impulsive Vatican. –Yahoo
Last successor, Peter Romanus? Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace,  Archbishop emeritus of Cape Coast (Ghana), was born on 11 October 1948 in Wassaw Nsuta, Ghana. He was ordained for the Diocese of Cape Coast on 20 July 1975 and holds a doctorate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome. From 1975-1976 and 1980-1981, he served as staff member at St Theresa’s Minor Seminary, and from 1981-1987 as staff member at St Peter’s Major Seminary.  On 6 October 1992 he was appointed Archbishop of Cape Coast and was ordained on 27 March 1993. –Vatican
Lightning strikes the Vatican: They say timing is everything. On Feb. 11, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation, making him the first pontiff in 600 years to do so. Hours after the shocking announcement, lighting struck St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. Just a coincidence? Agence France-Presse tweeted this photo, writing, #PHOTO: Lightning strikes St Peter’s dome at #Vatican on day the #Pope announced resignation, by Filippo Monteforte. –Weather  Could Bertone be another potential papal successor? Bertone was born in Canavese, Italy. Tarcisio Pietro (Peter) Evasio Bertone, S.D.B. (born 2 December 1934) is an Italian prelate and diplomat. A cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, he currently serves as Cardinal Secretary of State and Camerlengo, having previously served as Archbishop of Vercelli from 1991 to 1995, as Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, when Cardinal Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI, was Prefect, and Archbishop of Genoa from 2002 to 2006. Bertone was elevated to the cardinalate in 2003. Cardinal Odilo Pedro (Peter) Scherer of São Paulo, Brazil is also a strong frontrunner. So with Turkson and Bertone, there could be three potential Peters. Wikipedia

(right) The 16th card of the Tarot, showing lightning striking the tower, marking the overthrow of Babel or Babylon, and the crown comes off the top of the tower. Benedict carries 16 behind his name, and lightning strikes St. Peter’s Basilica (16 letters) after his resignation. Oddly enough, the 16th chapter of Revelation talks about the fall of Babylon and the outpouring of the 7 last plagues. “And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in rememberance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.” Revelation 16:19

53 Responses to Pope Benedict stepping down, cites poor health: world shudders at Malachy’s prophecy of the End of the World

  1. Dennis E. says:

Well, rumors concerning his health had been circulating on the internet for some time.
This is not unexpected, but surprisingly this quick.
This morning on CNN and FOX, the idea of a younger Pope, other than the ones many have in mind was proposed to include a Black Pope, which there has not been a Black Pope for 1500 years.
The idea proposed was a pope from a developing country or Africa. There was a comment about a Syrian, I thought, i could be wrong.

Yes, this situation does bring out the prophecy of the last pope, but if we, the public knows that, he knows it and this Pope may not be the last pope…… Satan is a master of deception… Then if so, he could laugh it off and make people second guess the prophecy
Well, look at our president. People knew that he was going to distribute the wealth and fundamentally
change America; even his wife said so and people still voted and look at our situation now.

So what does or can this mean? I think there are several issues:
    1) Bringing all the religions under one umbrella. In that stop looking at what divides us and what brings us together (president has said this). One world religion and persauding the Muslims to allow Israel to place a retaining wall to separate worshipers and build the third jewish temple and place a church on the temple mount also.
    2) The possible relocation of the Vatican or Pope to Jerusalem as Jerusalem is suppose to be the center of the new world order as I understand it and the destruction of Rome itself. Remember, the vatican has just made a major purchase of space in the facility that houses David’s tomb in Jerusalem. The floor above it I believe.
    3) Persecution of the churches such as the world wide protestant church and Israel.

Some of you may scoff, don’t……..Keep an open spirit and mind……

Not trying to start a war…………but if this is so…………To elect a younger Pope would
get him time to work out his plan, if he is the one, since he is elected for life, he may have time or
for the believer who awaits the rapture, great assembly, it could happen today more than ever…………

However, I leave The EP Family with this thought………………I believe that there is a very good chance that The Church will suffer before persecution starting very soon regardless if you believe in the catching away or not…………………. If so, don’t blame God………If the world persecuted him, who is to say we are above being not being persecuted for the faith……….?

Just my opinion, my thoughts…………..willing to share………

No matter if you believe this or not it certainly will make many pay attention. I’m a preacher/pastor who believes the Bible is our sole authority and standard to live by. But anyone who pays attention to anything must realize that the end of this age is near. There’s never been a more exciting time to live in my opinion. I am also a certified police officer and can see the anguish on my fellow employees faces, and hear it in their speech. Two years ago when I started they all thought I was too radical and a doomsday preacher. But since November they quit making fun and have started asking questions about the times we live in. There seems to be almost a fear, a cloud hanging over our heads as to what will be asked of us in the near future. I told them and so far they all say they too will take a stand for the constitution by which we swore an oath to uphold. Pray for us as we pray for you.

In 1139 St Malachy went to Rome to give an account of the affairs of his diocese to the pope, Innocent II. While at Rome, he supposedly received the strange vision of the future, that he later produced as a long list of illustrious pontiffs who were to rule the Church until the end of time…this list has proven to be fairly accurate.

The last of these prophecies concerns the end of the world and is as follows: “In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End.” Petrus Romanus, is to be the 112th from from Celestine II, who was elected in the year 1130, until the end of the world. According to St. Malachy’s list Petrus is to be the last pope, follows Gloria olivæ. Though its not specific how to attach Pope Benedict with an olive branch or tree it is clear that people have done a lot to fulfil that prophecy. Israel gifts pope with olive tree in October 24, 2011
JERUSALEM (JTA) — An olive tree more than 200 years old grown near Nazareth was sent as a gift from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Pope Benedict XVI.

My understanding is the prophecy does not say that no popes will intervene between Petrus Romanus and his predecessor designated Gloria olivæ. It may be that there will be a long line of popes between them…just highly unlikely!

Many think that St. Malchi’s prophecies were tampered with or maybe it follows this: Thre will soon be a “disputed” election, the good pope reigns for three months then is martyred as the Russians attack Italy and the Vatican. An anti-pope reigns for one year thereafter and then is killed – no pope for a few years until WWIII is over – then St.’s Peter and Paul themselves come down and elect a pope – a couple of generations of the greatest era of peace and prosperity the world has ever seen – the Reign of the Immaculate Heart of Mary – then comes anti-christ. So, pope soon to be lected – pope at end of war – and possibly one more pope near anti-christ time. And this would coincide with St. Malachi’s prophecies if Popes Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI are condemned by the next Pope as anti-popes – which according to the prophecies is what he is going to do along with condemning the Vatican II all the changes and the New Mass which is an aberration: Our Lord told Marie-Julie Jahenny in 1904, and Blessed Anna Catherine Emmeich around 1850 that a “New Mass” would come that would be Odious and Impious in My sight the Lord told them.
Anyways – shortly totally world economic collapse – civil war and revolution in all Western countries and America – followed by WWIII within three or four months. America and Europe get attacked by Russia and China and others when they are in chaos. All to happen very soon, within months of this new Pope’s election – God more of less now tells Satan your time is up and Satan yells but I’m not ready yet – so I will kill them all (war). God is going to allow our enemies to punish us severely and when all seems lost both the Church and world seem doomed – God intervenes and turns the tables and we completely annihilate the enemies of both our countries and our faith.

No electricity for over a year and maybe two – complete anarchy, murder, chaos and fighting here in America, when we are in this turmoil, Russia attacks.

    – Sister Lucia in 1990: Said that Russia attacks America
    -Blessed Jacinta: Had a vision of “Red” troops (Russians) attacking Italy and the Vatican;
    – Pope St. Pius X: had a vision similar to Jacinta and saw the Pope (one just about to be elected) walking over the bodies of dead priests in the Vatican as he fless Rome.
Many more Catholic saints and mystics have detailed all that is coming – and Our Lady at Akita in 1976, fully approved by the Church warned that not a soul alive will not be terrified, that what is going to happen shortly is beyond anyones most horrible imagination.

The Church has fallen into Apostasy along with near all her members and priest, including the Popes, they have abandoned near 2000 years of Catholic teaching, doctrine and traditions, modernists and infiltrators have taken over the church – all about to witness a surprise no one is expecting when this pope is elected. Two angles come down and order him to issue seven thunders or decrees which will shock both the Church and the world

The Bible says when every man (women and children) have heard the Gospel, then THE END will come. Youall have too busy idol worshipping mary and praying repetitive pagan prayers for the “conversion of Russia). The Bible says exactly what is going to happen. 10. I agree that Cardinal Turkson is on the top 5 list to be the next Pope. It would be historic. Also we need to understand that St Malachy did not predict the destruction of Rome or the Church but the destruction of the “seven hilled city” which is New York with all its tall buildings. He saw a vision of New York some 5 hundred years before this super city was founded.

Carmelo, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. He was referring to Rome and the institutional Roman Catholic Church. Check your knowledge of history. Rome is known as the city of seven hills. And he has identified the next pope as the Antipope. If that is too much for you to absorb that is one thing. However, it does not change the reality of the period of Church history we are about to enter into starting February 28th.

Hi Carmelo! I tend to agree with you; especially when reading Revelation chapters 17 and 18, of course time will tell and time is very short now. I have checked many prophecies of this age both past and recent and NYC would make the most logical target. Revelation 17 & 18 also brings to light that those committing these violent acts of destruction will be unwitting agents for God. Anyway, I think soon we enter the actual years of the tribulation which will then lead to the 1,000 year reign of Christ before the final end.

No he definitely meant Rome. Rome has always been known as being called the city of seven hills where The entire area of Vatican State proper is now confined. If you look at Revelation 17 it speaks of a woman that rides the beast and that woman is a city built on seven hills that reigns over the kings of the earth=Rome! If you look at history Popes for many, many years held power over Kings, emperors, princes. Many popes claimed to own the world like the evil Borgia pope. so much corruption, lies, etc. they fought with armies in the name of Christ to build a huge kingdom very much of this world. also spiritual fornication with godless rulers and the list sadly goes on and on. It has nothing to do with New York City and everything to do with Rome/The Vatican City

The prophesy of St Malachy has always fascinated me. I usually don’t put much faith in extra-biblical prophesy sources, but this one is interesting. St Malachy wrote these after having a vision while in Rome in the 11th century. The document was hidden away in the Vatican until the late 1500’s. Many experts believe that the writings prior to them coming under public scrutiny were tainted, but the ones after 1600 are pretty close. The pope listed that would become Pope Benedict was listed as “Gloria Olivae” or “Glory of the Olive”. Benedict took his name of Benedict from the founder of the Order of Saint Benedict, which is also know as the Olivetans.

I also had to think about a comment someone made when discussing the possible supervolcano that was found in Italy. That person said that he felt the current pope (Benedict) was going to leave. When I heard about this resignation, that comment haunted me.

I guess now we just have to wait to see if the next pope is the one they call Petrus Romanus.

      • Irene C says:

I don’t know of anything in the prophecies that calls for stones of fire raining down on just Italy, although with everything that will be going on it is a possibility. There will also be a lot of destruction going on all around the planet, including a world-wide earthquake that will cause the islands to move. But I truly believe that Rome is the city of the seven hills and will be destroyed, whether by nature of divine intervention. (Nothing against the Catholics here, just that God’s judgement will rain down on everyone and everything.)

In my opinion, I don’t believe the U.S. will be much of a player during the last days. I think that we will need to be neutralized in order for a One World system to take over. (Although we seem to be doing a pretty good job of neutralizing ourselves lately.)

That being said, although these prophecies are interesting, I don’t put much faith in them. The only prophecies I trust are those in the Bible. However, we need to be careful not to put our own pre-conceived interpretations into what we are reading. In order to gain an understanding, we need to study it all the way through, from Genesis to Revelation. I’ve been studying it for many years and I still find things I didn’t understand before. This will all happen in the Lord’s time and how He planned it. What we “think” or are taught really doesn’t matter. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus and to do the will of the Father, which is to believe in the One that he sent.

Yeah, I’m just watching the developments but even if the last pope “prophecy” does happen, I still don’t think it’s from God because it is not in The Word of God. Everything we have ever needed to know about the future is in The Bible and God has told us SO MUCH. I think Satan has orchestrated these “prophecies” (even though most strict catholics wouldn’t care for them) for His own plan and God might be allowing it to come to pass. Either way, it’s becoming more obvious that we are entering dark and dangerous days.

Now is the time to test ourselves to see if we are truly in the faith and to run to Christ for salvation. God is in control!

Luke 10.18 “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.”

Supposedly, lightning struck the Vatican, Saint Peter’s Basilica, just hours after Pope Benedict’s resignation. If this is independently verified by at least two primary sources, it would be significant, indeed. I would have to question whether the picture was by photo or video recording, and further, if by snapshot photo, what would be the chances of both such lightning occurring and one present to record it ?

IF the Vatican lightning occurrence is true, I consider this a triple omen, being from three sources specified to a single event, namely, the arrival of the next pope.

omen from God, with Luke 10.18
omen from man, with the papacy
omen from nature, with the lightning

All 3 omens can be seen as originating from above, whether by reality or perception, and reminding us that we are all subject to higher powers, and ultimately to God.

By extension, the lightning can be seen as signifying Lucifer/Satan, who represents the underworld, and thus this triple omen is emanating from the power of the realm of heaven, and from the power of the realm of the earth, and from the power of the realm of hell.

I encourage all to take heed of this and the many other signs of the end time now occurring and escalating, and take refuge in our only ultimate safety, the Lord Jesus Christ, who received the punishment we deserve, died on the cross as the Scriptures foretold, and rose on the third day without bodily corruption whatsoever. All that believe this good news have passed from condemnation and death, unto eternal life and eternal future glory with Christ Jesus.

You can look for his prophecy online if you care to. thank you for the idea about the Hebrew-English bible translation, I have never read it and would like to do so.
And, a comment on the anti or pro Catholic posts, Jesus loved and taught all who came to Him. He spoke kindly of the Good Samaritan rather than the Pharisees and Sadducees who feel so superior in their religious beliefs but look down with disdain on their human brothers and sisters. Jesus taught us to love one another, not ask what denomination we belong to before granting approval. Let all of us be more like Him.

Ruth the moabit is an example of a gentil people who wanted to embrace Tora´h, and Yahshua /Yahweh (same elohim) is calling all people in the world to embrace Toráh and avoid human precepts like Pharisses and Sadducees did.The time is very short. Shalom U Brajot (peace and blessing)

Amen Paula. And we also know that Jesus is not a false name. Everyone has their own language in their own country. When I call upon the name of Jesus, the evil one flees! There is power in His name and the blood that He shed for us all so we can be co-heirs with Him in His kingdom. He conquered the powers of darkness and has by His grace and mercy allowed us to speak in His name for peace and deliverance and an entrance into eternal life. Praise the Father of Abraham, Issac, Jacob and to His only begotten son Jesus our Messiah and Redeemer.

Meet Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the man running the Vatican as next pope is sought

The Papal Apartment was sealed up in Vatican City late Thursday night, just hours after Pope Benedict XVI abdicated his position and retired from public life. The ritual involves taping up the doors to the former pope’s bedroom and study, and then tying one of the doors with a symbolic red ribbon—a sign that nothing should be disturbed until a successor is chosen.

Overseeing the entire process was the man who will be running the Vatican until the next pontiff is chosen. His name is Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone.
