Mystery boom noises baffle Columbia County residents

December 14, 2012GEORGIAOver a period of two days last week, the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency was flooded with calls with reports from residents hearing loud booms. And as of Tuesday at 12:17 Monday afternoon, the calls poured in again. EMA Director Pam Tucker says some callers even say their house was shook by the blast. “Over the last 24 hours, we’ve had numerous reports. They come email, they call 311, they call to us, Facebook, different people,” Tucker said. Some point at quarry blasting for the noises, but Tucker says it’s a state law for them to notify her of a scheduled blasting and there wasn’t a demolition around the time the calls started Monday. “We haven’t been able to find anything in the areas where we’re getting the reports from that would really identify, specifically, that it is tannerite being blown up or anything like that,” she added. And Columbia County isn’t the only place of the hearings of unusual thunder-like noises. “There’s a lot of things on the internet that talk about mysterious booms happening other places so, they talk about it could be talking about methane gas that has seeped somehow into the earth and that’s along the coast from the gulf that would be the reason for the booms in Arizona, all the way through Georgia,” Tucker also said. –NBC26

Hi, I’m in the UK and I’ve been hearing strange “booms” too! Also, there is a gaseous smell around… Maybe it is seeping methane?

This was first reported last week and and it seems to be continuing.
If anyone is interested, I think a few blogger postings on last weeks story were very interesting, insightful and informative and surprising……and perhaps deserve a a second look.

Methane Is Popping Up All Over Boston!
The research team, led by Nathan Phillips, an associate professor of earth and environment at Boston University, measured atmospheric methane concentrations along all 785 miles of road within Boston’s city limits with a highly sensitive device known as a cavity-ring-down mobile CH4 analyzer. They discovered 3,356 leaks of methane whose isotopic characteristics indicated that they originated in fossil fuel rather than microbial sources. Some leaks clocked in at more than 15 times the global background methane level

    Hi Alvin

This map seems close to the earthquake line showed on the map in the film Megafault in the US in 2009. The movie was just OK, but every time we get a series of quakes in the United States on the film’s quake line I watch the film again. Also the Lava flow In the films scene in Colorado, though horrific, seemed eerily similar to whats happening or building up in Alaska. The line on the film’s map seems very close to recent earthquakes and booms. I wish I could send you the picture of the map. People blogged the film was a government simulation of the New Madrid fault. What do you think?

Have you heard any speculation on an earthquake running from the east coast to the west coast? I would love to hear your thoughts.

I enjoy reading your posts daily and I wish I had access to your books. I don’t have the means to purchase them though I would love to. Keep up the great work your information is priceless.

Map of failed North American craton

Thanks, Susan. I must confess, I haven’t seen the film and there is no known fault line I’m aware of running from east of the country to the west. North American geology is infinitely complex and there is still much about the formation of the land mass that we don’t know; hot spot formations in Yellowstone and Long Valley being among the many mysteries. We also have the curious formation of the Rocky Mountains in the Middle of the land mass, as well as the earlier subduction of the Farallon plate under the western edge of California. Then, there is the failed formation of the North American Craton, which should have split the continent in two but most likely failed as temperatures under the plate may have decreased and the magmatic pressures may have been alleved by massive volcanic eruptions along western rift zones. On the map above, some have wondered if the mystery booming noises are erupting along the boundary of the craton, as indicated from the map below and I would say that may be highly coincidental at this point, as many geological changes would affect the landmass if there was reactivation of the craton. I think we will see some significant changes to the North American continent but, in my mind, theses changes have not yet begun in earnest.

We will be giving out some books on the radio show when the new season starts- stay tuned. Glad you’re enjoying the blog and I’m fortunate to have you here.

      All the best,

Interesting, we had these booms in Wisconsin last spring. The experts ran tests and told the residents they where from earthquakes. Earthquakes are extremely rare in Wisconsin. Many people experienced damage to house foundations, cracks in basements, damage to concrete outdoors. Many don’t believe the earthquake theory, but there really hasn’t been a good explanation.

There were a series of strange booms in Great Falls, MT a few weeks ago,, which is right on the line of the map above. http://www.krtv.com/news/booms-baffling-great-falls-residents/. I have been looking all over for some explanation, this seems to be happening all over lately. I hope this site is incorrect, if yellowstone blows I will be toast.

I just found this video posted two days ago on youtube:Booms COVER UP! Due to New Madrid WAKING UP! In depth evidence! Review

Its about an hour long, but shows every boom correlated with earthquake activity showing stress building on the New Madrid fault. It appears booms were recorded before the last major earthquake on the fault but despite these warnings in the past no warnings are being attributed to the fault line in recent months.
