Boeing successfully tests EMP microwave missile

October 26, 2012 WARFARE Boeing successfully tests a new missile that can take out electronic targets with little collateral damage. The aerospace company tested the microwave missile last week on a two-story building on the Utah Test and Training Range where computers and electronic systems were turned on to gauge the effects of the missile’s radio waves, according to a Boeing press release. The missile, known as CHAMP (Counter-electronics High-powered Advanced Missile Project), fired a burst of High Powered Microwaves at the building, successfully knocking out the electronic systems and computers, and even taking out the television cameras recording the test. “This technology marks a new era in modern-day warfare,” Keith Coleman, CHAMP program manager for Boeing Phantom Works, said in the press release. “In the near future, this technology may be used to render an enemy’s electronic and data systems useless even before the first troops or aircraft arrive.” Seven targets were taken out in total during the one-hour test which left no collateral damage. Coleman believes this can be a huge advancement forward in non-lethal warfare. “Today we turned science fiction into science fact,” Coleman said in the press release. James Dodd, vice president of Advanced Boeing Military Aircraft, is hoping to get these microwave missiles in the field sooner rather than later. –CBS

And how long do you think it will be before America’s so called enemies (competitors) have the same thing?

The collateral damage comes when the chaos hits the streets after the power goes out.

The damage can be unimaginably huge….. not just on streets….. hospitals, trains, lifts, banks… even power generating equipment …. the whole city…. very aspect of life nowadays depends on electricity and electronics

Interesting posting and I post this regarding reports that one, Iran could launch an emp type weapon from a cargo ship, a container ship off our East Coast, to say. Secondly, we have had the means to use an EMP weapons for years and have used it I believe.
Now, here we have this and consider this. Could our own goverment use this very weapon on us and blame another? I hold my breath as I type this. I remember the gulf of tonkin incident that brought us the Vietnam Conflict.
Some of our enemies already have this weapon.

    Just my opinion……………………

    • Yes, there are many types of EMP weapons usually designated to specific frequencies. As a simple experiment try connecting a Tesla coil to a spark gap transmitter (multi frequency transmitter) and start broadcasting millions of watts into the ionosphere.

Read “One Second After” to see what lies in store for a society hit with a massive EMP weapon. Looks like Boeing is testing small-scale EMP devices. The military has had large EMP weapons for several decades, as have the Russians and probably several other nations (China, for one).

Dennis E may have something there. In fact it is believed that the nukes that North Korea has developed, though low yield for a nuke for explosives, are very high yield EMP weapons. A single weapon of this type exploded in the upper atmosphere over the central US can aledgedly take out every unprotected semiconductor based product in the country. The funny thing is most people will be totally unaware of what happened. We might see a flash in the sky if you happened to be looking up at the time, but you wouldn’t hear a thing except the sound of crashing cars, trucks, planes and tranes, followed by total chaos.

This concept for use of nuclear weapons has been around as long as the first bomb was exploded. It was a subject of congressional debate in the 70’s but the only action that has been taken to prepare for such an event has been by our military. It is expensive to protect against EMP. That said the only people on earth left with modern transportation and communication systems would be the armies of the world. The rest of us would be left to their mercy (though in reality we already are). If you want to prepare, you can acquire rad hardened communications equipement, electric generators and an old car with an old school electro mechanical ignition system.

A society not unlike that new show Revolution would not be far fetched after such an even.

Wonder if microwaves just vanish after they deliver their immediate punch, or do they continue to travel until expired? People with pace makers and other electronic gadgets come to mind….

  8. I have been aware of the use of EMP weapons since the 1980’s. A modern military will have no-problem in safeguarding against this weapon. It is easy to create an EMP shield, just ask Tesla.
I have successfully created my own INTERNET that does not use high frequency or satellites. My system throws a carrier wave (millions of watts) between two computers connected to two HAM radio’s. I suggest we create an underground INTERNET using old technology two way radio’s. just in case the satellites go down or the government turns it off.

So………… if they are boasting in the media about this ‘new’ SCI-FI weapon, how many stop to think about what they have developed that they are not telling us about?

“This technology marks a new era in modern-day warfare,” And as soon as all the nations use this on each other, they will still go to war, using sticks and stones if they have to. And the chaos in the streets would be horrendous. Government and safety services would break down. Millions would die, especially those who live in urban areas. The elderly and those unable to escape wouldn’t have a chance. Has anyone here seen the new TV show “Revolution”? Interesting study of what would happen after an emp attack. Just saying…

this will be used against the resistance to the elite firstly, and when used it would cause mass casualties thanks to red lights stopping, hospitals shutting down, pacemakers quitting, etc. and to top it all off the microwave radiation coming out of that possibly causing cancerous issues!

Look people. It’s war. I say it’s F**king great! Read about using microwave signals to melt people. The point again no rules in modern war. When there are rules the side the follows them gets their ass handed to them. Note the British in our fight for independence standing in lines and firing. Enter guerrilla warfare and sniping. Rules changed. War evolves.

I agree with most of the above comments. Is it even healthy to be firing microwaves like that anywhere you choose?

It’s a weapon that in 5 years from now will be obsolete. Replaced with an even more destructive force. And this wil carry on.
The ability to destroy ourselves will never lack funds, ambition, or sheer will.
Weapons kill people, and the powers that be seem to have no inclination to wind down.
    Of course we need defence.
But conversation and trust, (detremental to weapon advance) will never occur.
    So it carries on.

  15. Hi Alvin. Wanted to pass this along to you. I could see this from my house. It hung in the sky for at least 2 hours. Was extremely bright and distinctly oblong shaped. Still no explanation as to what it was.
