Mysterious noise surfaces in New Zealand: low hum noise baffles Wellington residents

October 14, 2012 WELLINGTON, NZNews of the ‘Wellington hum’ has reverberated across the country with the local council inundated with calls on theories about the phenomenon. The Wellington City Council says calls have flooded in since the noise was first reported in parts of the city three days ago. The cause of the noise is still unknown but council spokesperson Clayton Anderson says there are several theories floating around. “We’ve had around 20 phone calls and got around a dozen emails from around New Zealand from people speculating what it is,” he says. One theory is that the Wellington sewerage pump station is reverberating through the pipes into people’s house. Another caller said the work being carried out on the Mt Victoria Tunnel ventilation shaft could be producing a low-pitched hum. The most bizarre theory was from a man convinced Daleks – fictional mutant aliens from the TV series Doctor Who – had surrounded the city. But Daleks or not, it appears the noise is spreading with the council receiving its first call from a resident in Berhampore last night. It takes the total to around 20 noise complaints from Mt Victoria, Mt Cook, Newtown, Berhampore and Karori. “We’ve put the word out to our business units about what could potentially be making that noise and they’ve all come back saying it’s not us,” says Mr Anderson. He says the council will continue to go out and monitor noise complaints. –3 News

I am fastinated by the worldwide strange sounds. Sure wish this one was recorded. I’ve researched these since the Spring of 2011-Some sounds like trumpets. some are an extended hum. Errie.

“Some sounds like trumpets.” Interesting… As a Messianic, we just finished observing the Feast of Trumpets last September. The trumpet is supposed to announce the coming of the Messiah.

Reminds me of the Edmonton hum, they investigated that but never came out with what the cause was. I still haven’t forgotten the hum in my area last Jan for several days, was the most unpleasant thing to experience. It made sleep nearly impossible, and such a low barely audible tone it felt like it just disturbed the whole body’s balance
not to mention the ear pain.

… the strange noise is back. We first head it back in January 2012 on a number of separate occasions and always at night. Last night it was back. Same exact sound only much much louder. This video was taken about half an hour after it first started, between 10pm and 10:30pm (it started at about 9:30pm-ish). A few friends from the area heard it too. It was pitch black, hence only the street lamp dots are visible in the video. No clue what it could be, but it sounds like a drone or large vac – the type used to clean heating vents. We didn’t hear it over the spring/summer, but now that it’s getting cold and fall/winter is here, it’s back. That being said, we had massive aurora borealis activity that same evening and the night before, so it could be related. Who knows!

I think the trumpet ones are fake. They got the sound from war of worlds. Nonetheless, there are some strange happenings these days.

  4. Lyn Leahz says:

Have you heard about all of the sounds around the world?

  5. Therese Denbeck says:

There were a few people who reported strange sounds in Brawley, Ca. before the last earthquake. The question is whether this is the same type of sound. There should be some way to tell the difference and explain/determine the relevance.

The humming noise is Haarp which is currently active over Wellington

LOL … I wouldn’t completely dismiss the Daleks theory … until proof of what this is … that’s as good as any phenomenon explanation

Maranatha! Next, the Rapture, then the breaking of the Seals…..the Horsemen are saddling up…..the Revelation of Jesus Christ, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, is on the horizon! He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches!

  13. Anna Forsyth says:

I’m in Melbourne and heard a weird hum twice. It went on for ages. I thought it’s coz I live near a Telstra phone station or the tramways. But it was a definite loud, prolonged hum.

  14. Skeptical Citizen says:

We just now experinced a sort of wierd vibrating hum that lasted for a few minutes. We are located in the ozark Foothills about a 100 miles from the new madrid fault. I dont know if was Haarp? or something deep in the earth?
