7.6 magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast of Costa Rica: tsunami warnings issued, 2 dead

September 5, 2012COSTA RICA A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake rocked Costa Rica on Wednesday, rattling buildings and cutting power in some areas of the capital. Residents of San Jose said phones went down, electricity poles rattled and water flowed out of pools during the quake. “It was terrible. I was on the third floor, I had never felt anything like it,” said Stephanie Gonzalez, a 25-year-old masters student. The quake’s epicenter was in western Costa Rica about 87 miles from San Jose, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, and it was felt as far away as Managua, the capital of neighboring Nicaragua. “It was very strong, everyone is getting out because of the tsunami alert,” said a worker at the Samara Tree House Inn on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for Pacific coastlines of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama. It had earlier warned of tsunamis for as far away as Mexico and Chile. It was the biggest earthquake in Costa Rica, since a 7.6 quake in 1991 left 47 dead. More recently, 40 died in a 6.1 magnitude quake in January 2009. –Reuters

What’s with all the downgrading? All of the major earthquakes in the past few weeks have been immediately downgraded by the usgs. This was first posted as a 7.9, as was the EQ off the coast of El Salvador. Not sure what the difference between a 7.9 and a 7.6 is, but why post it if it’s just gonna change within 5 minutes?

They possibly downgrade it to a 7.6 because, when you see a 7.9 its right by 8.0 so it seems like an extreme event, and then people might freak out. Last week they did the same thing, I think its all psychology cuz when you see a 7.6, you go like ah its not that big, when it actually is.

Today Mr. Obama declared Sept. as Emerg. Preparedness Month. If you go to this link:http://www.spaceweather.com/ you can follow two important factors. One is the activity of solar flares as they are related to the magnetism or magnetic fields (waves) in space and how that relates to our planet’s magnetic-sphere.

Also, at this link http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2012 QG42&orb=1 and this: http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2012 QC8&orb=1 you will see that JPL tracking these two Potentially Hazardous Asteroids that are going to come into close proximity to earth’s magnetic-sphere. I have been tracking this and the last ones came close in early and late Aug.; This is when the http://www.iris.washington.edu/seismon/ IRIS Seismic monitor showed a sharp increase in activity on the pacific rim.

If these are mearly astroids following on the tail of something much bigger then we could see something very big, perhaps soon. I noticed that the X-Class solar flares increased with the nearness of this large potentially Hazardous Asteroid (s).

Now, to add alittle reason to this info., the IRIS site has for years shown EQ activity almost on a daily basis. However with the increase in constant activity on the Pacific Rim Plate a person should do their best to prepare. Preparedness brings peace of mind to yourself and give you strength for your loved ones when they need you the most. I have an emerg. prep. shop at http://www.theundefeatedlife.com/Emergency_Supplies_Shop.html ; If anything, it will give you a good idea of what you need. Mary’s Lake has an interesting seismograph for the amount of noise in the chart. Could this be compared to a central nerve for the West Coast from Alaska to South America? Looking back a couple of days at this monitor, have you done a correlation between quakes and when it shows on this seismograph? It looks like it settled back down, but again is picking back up after this quake in Costa Rica.
      Thanks!

  5. There have been no tsunami warning for the Pacific Coast area despite that fact that San Diego has received several 5.2 and 4.3 earthquakes continually. Last Weekend there were 11 earthquakes in the S. Calif. region. There was also an earthquake in HI and a tsunami warning due the multiple earthquakes in Japan and regions thereabout. However, no tsunami warning here. After the major quakes to the west of us in Japan and so on; last weekend we had excessively high tides here in the L.A. Coastal areas… So it took about three days to reach here.

What puzzles me is how the USGS has a system in place which will upload the details of the earthquake before it has been reviewed by a seismologist, hence all the downgrading – so why would they wait hours to add the other 2 eq’s? I have a horrid feeling they are covering something more sinister. Things are definitely heating up! Thanks for all your ongoing hard work and dedication to EP.

I totally agree… we may have a larger problem without the “usual” aftershocks. It’s quite baffling with the amount of larger quakes we’ve had in just the past 2 weeks. It’s even more baffling with the possible tsunami warnings/ low tsunamis, etc. The activity level in general is just amazingly high.

I hope things settle soon. As always Alvin, thank you so much for your hard work!

Well, it’s only going to get worse from here. This is why I said in my book, The 7th Protocol, the planet experiences marginal rises in temperature gradient around the equinoxes and it’s the energy transfer event, that happens around this time, with the Sun that I hypothesized regulates the planet from experiencing greater disaster. So the next 180 days will be rough. This is why seismic turbulence across the globe is intensifying… because we’re approaching the Autumn Equinox of September 22.

Autumn Equinox: September 22, 2012 – moderate to very high flux
Winter Solstice: December 21, 2012 – moderate to high flux
Spring Equinox: March 20, 2013 – extremely high flux

Now is the time to start excercising the faith that will be needed to sail through the tempest.

    • Basically, stay alert to any warnings and move inland or to high ground if civil defense sirens sound. The traditional wave height from tsunamis, for most of the Caribbean, has been about 20 feet, and it sweeps about 1 to 2 miles inland, at worst case. Use that as a reference point and tell him to just live in awareness; not anxiety or fear. It’s a beautiful place and should be relished every minute for its aesthetic beauty.

I live in Southern California and we are always on alert for the big one. But we have heard of the big one coming for so many years, we are immune to the idea of it happening now. But after all the big earthquakes happening in less than a week in the Philippines and El Salvador, it is only a matter of time before a really big one to hit, bigger than Japan’s 2011 earthquake.

And sadly…the media continues to cover political events rather than what is happening to our planet. An earthquake of 7.6 getting little attention in the news is sad indeed. I believe folks are becoming so desensitized from all these earthquakes, that 7.9 magnitude is just a little shake up. I felt so sorry for the poor man who died of a heart attack when the quake struck. We are living in very serious times, folks. God help us all to stay close to Him. I pray these people will not suffer any more deaths from this quake.

That is so true Colleen. I saw it on the USGS site this morning and posted it on facebook, but the only place on TV I heard about it was on The Weather Channel. And prior to finding TEP, I really had to search hard to find out what was going on. But as Alvin has said, people don’t want to hear from us “fearmongers”. They would much rather live in oblivion, comfortable that things will get better once their politician is in power. Unfortunately, people will continue to believe that things will get better, even as the planet unravels. Just as in the days of Noah, the people lived their lives, ignoring the warnings, until the doors of the Ark shut. Then it was too late.

Thank you Alvin for your diligence. Keep sending out the warnings so we, in turn, can send them on to others. Whoever listens will listen, whoever doesn’t won’t. All we can do is be watchmen.

So most of the population on Earth will be oblivious to this earthquake, and the many more to come.
A global village is remarkable, how could I speak to you, or hear you, without it. But it is coming with a massive price. It just feels like, humankind have focused on technology, and awareness of Earth changes are almost non existant. Most of our society, is focused only on our society, while meanwhile, the cosmos is doing its own thing, but we are just too busy to notice.

Judging from past behavior, it may be more likely to happen in successive fashion, but also I hasten to add; we’ve never been through a major geological shift in the planet’s history- if that’s what’s starting to occur. The planet will be shaken by stronger clusters of large earthquakes because we will see more dynamism between the tectonic plates, as conditions that have promoted stability, heretofore, in the planet’s interior continue to deteroiate and fall out of harmonic balance.
