Newt is telling the public, something akin to saying that the Emperor, forgot to get dressed.

Chaos would ensue. We are trying to prepare and probably are more prepared than many (finally hubby is listening to me), but we are still far, far too dependent on all our devices and comforts. Hard to wrap the mind around this kind of thing, but it’s coming, I’m sure. In one form or another.

  4. For a change I agree with Newt without reservation. We have betting on an iffy hand for years when it comes to our power grid. While the power companies and government (at all levels) continue avoiding the huge cost of modernizing our power grid, the odds increase that we are going to be faced with a catastrophic failure of one of the most important pieces of our infrastructure. But considering that the cost of upgrading the system goes up exponentially every year that nothing is done, I don’t look for any effort to be expended on the problem except for the symbolic. Meanwhile, solar activity is increasing and getting more powerful, more and more people who don’t like us are looking at ways to cause damage, and we keep adding more and more gadgets to tax the system even more. Talk about a downward spiral…

This is a extremely timely article with an X class flare bearing down on us. Some of our scientists have put out the story this will have no effect on us. I hope they are right but with our country’s infrastructure in the condition it is in I don’t understand how you can predict that with such certainty. If nothing else I think the press should in good consciousness be talking about preparedness. After all common sense is not that common in our society as a whole.

Maybe not. Grounding won’t prevent the fine copper ribbons in circuit boards from melting in a severe solar blast. Remove all the electric circuit boards in Canada, and how much will still be operating?

When I see something like this from someone like newt I think OHH-boy something must be coming if they are sounding the alarm so to speak.

I think main stream Americans simply dont want to know about such news and look at the problems as silly or bothersome or with a “I cant do anything about it anyway” attitude.

They have enough problems as it is and dont want to be bothered by this type of stuff.

I myself would love to get off the grid but in my current situation I dont see how I could although there are things that can be done to help ease the transition back into the dark ages.

    Just my observation about this…………..

Is it possible to have too many D-CELL BATTERIES AND BATTERY POWERED FANS AND LANTERNS. It is not.
Is it possible TO HAVE TOO MANY BOTTLES OF PROPANE GAS (STORED SAFETY) AND A PORTABLE STOVE(s)? Maybe, depends on the size of the family.
Is it possible TO HAVE TOO MUCH CAN FOOD? Only if you have to heat it, to eat it and check the sodium level.
Is it possible TO NOT HAVE ENOUGH CASH HIDDEN ON HAND. Yes it is. If the computers are down, can’t purchase additional items.
Is it possible THAT YOU COULD BE ALL ALONE AND ON YOUR OWN? With the Lord, you are never alone. But, smith & wesson, colt, browning and remmington can provide some comfort.

I should cease trying to be a clown and stick to my day job, but there is a report saying the east coast would bear the brunt of an CME from the sun, if one so powerful would strike down the grid.
Let’s pray this never happens but there has been spotted reports on the internet that the goverment has purchased 200 million plus freeze dried food packets and several large quantities
of sleeping cots and tents several years ago. At that time, #10 cans were hard to get.

Yeah here people steal the copper wire that they use for a ground off of all the power poles. They do it to sell it as scrap not relizing or not caring what effect it will have on those who live nearby these power poles- if those ground wires are not there when needed.

Living in houses built to not have air-conditioning, as the Amish do, is one thing…However, ours is not that world. Living in a world where just-in-time delivery for food requires refrigeration for 70% of what we pull out of supermarkets, is another. America’s whole food network system is built on the premise of ‘just in time‘ transportation delivery from the field to the freezer. Few grow their own food anymore. It’s shipped on average of 1,300 miles. If that system ever broke down; the Amish communities wouldn’t last one week without being overrun by desperate, marauding Americans, marching with guns, sticks, and clubs. Certain antibiotics, drugs, and blood also requires refrigeration…Water treatments plants and nuclear plants also need electricity to contol their hazardous waste by-products and heat.

Newt for all of his faults—and he’s got a LOT of them–actually vaguely gets civil defense in a way that few politicians have since the early 60s. A bill to address some of the vulnerabilities in the power grid died sometime last year after passing the House I believe (it would have ordered and maintained some spares in the ultra high voltage transformers among other things).

Like I and others have mentioned before, it is like we are in the 1930’s all over again.. BUT; here I think is the big difference. Back in the 1930’s poor people lived on rural land and it was mostly the wealthy that lived in the cities; now today the wealthy live in the rural areas and the poor are warehoused into the cities and tight, old suburban areas. Why is this important? Just look at what many of us are writing on this blog… Grow our own food… Only the wealthy can do that… I grow vegetables on my tiny plot of land and it would not feed our family, plus who knows how much it just cost me to water it during this drought that just ended; during a crisis will the water company be operating? and if they are do you think they will not restrict your usage severely?Draw water from the nearby lake but the family needs that boiled for personal use, I can go on and on with all of this but my main point is that even survivalist do not have a clue really. If the Lord does not build the house it is built in vain. Yes, be prepared for cataclysmic events but even more importantly be prepared for eternity because even if we survive this eternity still awaits us.

Technology is not evil, some of it IS used for the greater good. Not everything about it is doom & gloom & wicked. I am as honest as they come & I’d hate to see a breakdown of it because life as we know it would crumble then disappear, so please, don’t lump me in with the so called majority. How would a break of technology serve humanity well? Do you truly believe that kids would then do maths without a calculator? There would not be schools for them to study maths in, they would be too busy learning how to survive in a very strange, very different, very cruel new world. Believe me, a breakdown of technology means a total breakdown of society which will be nothing like a Little House On the Prairie scenario. There will be absolute chaos, mayhem & misery for all concerned. No medical care, no communications, no deliveries, no sanitation, no electric lights or heating & cooling, no weather warnings/broadcasts because every single thing that you take for granted sitting in your study & using “technology” to type your very posts on – Gone.

Think of the consequences before wishing you sat on the grass on the other side of that fence.

Mount Weather Underground complex – FEMA center, Va.

“In a letter to the editor of the The Washington Post after the September 11 attacks, most of the congressional leadership was evacuated to Mount Weather by helicopter.” –Wikipedia

Likely, Mount Weather, if he is in Washington at the time. As you probably know, it is a large underground bunker complex that was to be where Kennedy would be evacuated to during the Cuban missile crisis. It’s now under the control of Homeland Security.

Susanm: I hope this helps. In Revelation, “1000 years” appears only in connection with the 1000 year reign of Christ, which begins with the bondage/imprisonment of Satan (Rev. 20). Famine is associated with the third horseman (the third seal, Revelation 6:5-6), but there are no specifics given in regards to duration. In verse 13 of the same chapter, after the sixth seal is opened, stars fall to the earth. The Seven Trumpets appear in chapter 8 and are associated with the judgments of God…. Even for students of the Bible, Revelation is confusing, even overwhelming. Events depicted and recorded therein are not necessarily linear, as 1-2-3 or a-b-c but more often 1-2-7 or a-b-h, which renders the actual sequence of events a matter of debate. In Luke 21, verses 5-36, Christ gives a summary of events that may be helpful, but even He avoids specifics in regards to time.

“in revelations doesnt it say that there will be a famine for 1000 years”… No, It does not say that in the Book of Revelations. In regards to famine, it does say this:Revations 6: 5-9 When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”

7When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
We are already seeing this happen, wars (sword), famine (droughts) and plague (most likely will be a killer flu although there are outbreaks of foot and mouth disease infecting cattle in russia and africa, dengue is on the rise, avian flu in mexico and asian countries, etc) We are just seeing the beginning, it will get much worse.
This is what is said about the “1,000 yrs” in Rev 20: 1-7And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

I live on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. We were without power for just over 4 weeks for Katrina. We were also without running water as there was no power to run the pump for the well. There was no fuel, because you can’t pump fuel with no electricity. No banks. No ATMS. No money. NO FOOD shipping in. The looting and violence began SO fast. It took 2 weeks for the National Guard to get where we were with supplies… and by that time we were getting worried to say the least.

Yall it was bad.. but it was NOTHING compared to what this would be. Think of how small an area the Louisiana-Mississippi Gulf Coast is compared to an event like this happening across the country. I sincerely hope the good Lord takes us home before an event of this magnitude takes place.. I believe he is on his way. Yall please, please- Put your faith in Jesus.

It is not that the electrical grid is old that is the problem with CME’s, it is the fact that all the transmission lines are linked together and act as one massive antenna. The weakest link in the power system is the transformer what ever the voltage. One possible course of action would be to isolate the power transformers from the grid when a CME is due to strike the earth. Lord knows there is a lot of sun monitoring. People can have the choice of a few days without power or years without power. This will not work for a weaponized EM, but that is what security is to protect against????
