CERN physicists announce they are 99% certain they have found elusive Higgs boson particle

July 4, 2012 SCIENCEPhysicists said they had discovered a new particle that is consistent with the Higgs boson, a long-sought particle crucial to scientists’ current understanding of how the universe is built, although they will need additional data to pin it down with near absolute certainty. Joe Incandela, leader of one of the teams, told scientists at the European Center for Nuclear Research, or CERN, that the new particle was definitely a boson and the heaviest boson ever found. “The implications are very significant and it is precisely for this reason that we must be extremely diligent in all of our studies and cross-checks,” he said in a statement. The new particle found at CERN is in the mass range of 125-126 GeV, or gigaelectronvolts, which means its mass is 125-126 times greater than the mass of a proton. CERN said their data had pinned down the mass of the new particle with an extremely high level of statistical certainty. It’s hard not to get excited by these results,” CERN Research Director Sergio. However, the researchers cautioned that the current finding was still preliminary and they expect more data from additional experiments in coming months. One crucial detail would be for them to pin down specific properties that the Higgs boson is supposed to have. For example, the theory predicts it will have a spin of zero. –WSJ
Hottest temperatures ever on Earth: On June 25, 2012, scientists created the hottest temperature ever in the lab — 4 trillion degrees Celsius — hot enough to break matter down into the kind of soup that existed microseconds after the birth of the universe. They used a giant atom smasher at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York to knock gold ions together to make the ultra-hot explosions — which lasted only for milliseconds. But that is enough to give physicists fodder for years of study that they hope will help them understand why and how the universe formed. “That temperature is hot enough to melt protons and neutrons,” Brookhaven’s Steven Vigdor told a news conference at a meeting of the American Physical Society in Washington on June 25, 2012. These particles make up atoms, but they are themselves made up of smaller components called quarks and gluons. What the physicists are looking for are tiny irregularities that can explain why matter clumped out of the primeval hot soup. “They also hope to use their findings for more practical applications — such as in the field of “spintronics” that aims to make smaller, faster and more powerful computing devices. They used the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), a particle accelerator and collider that is 2.4 mile around and buried 12 feet underground in Upton, New York to collide gold ions billions of times. “RHIC was designed to create matter at temperatures first encountered in the early universe,” Vigdor said. They calculate the 4 trillion degree temperature gets pretty close. “How hot is it?” he asked. In comparison, “The predicted melting temperature of protons and neutrons is 2 trillion degrees. The temperatures at the core of a typical type-2 supernova is 2 billion degrees,” he said. The center of our sun is 50 million degrees, iron melts at 1,800 degrees and the average temperature of the universe is now 0.7 of a degree above absolute zero. Physicists at the Brookhaven National Laboratory smashed gold ions together to produce a quark-gluon plasma like that which they say existed in the first instant after the Big Bang that created the universe, and in doing so have produced what Guinness World Records says is the highest man-made temperature ever, 7.2 trillion degrees. That is about 250,000 times hotter than the temperature at the core of the Sun. Reuters

The Mayans talk of time speeding up as well and the knowledge increasing quickly. I read that if you feel time is going fast you may be one of the people who are about to move into the next density. When atoms vibrate faster our bodies feel it and it might be a bit unnerving. Our solar system is going through big changes and so is our planet. Mediation and showing kindness to all forms of life can help us adjust. Expressing love and having positive thoughts helps us and others as well. Our 3rd dimensional body may be preparing you for the 5th dimension as your atoms continue to vibrate at a higher level.

Today i see religion as not so harmful unless its in the hands of Extremists, But there are also Scientific Extremists. Everything is fine and dandy until someone wants to manipulate it. Religion can be Manipulative and Science Vice Versa. What i “Wish” for is a world where we can all Co-Exist together. Science Constantly Attempt to Disprove God with Reason and Logic, While Religion Says Science is Blasphemous and Attempts to “Be God”. It’s unfair to both sides how we fight and bicker. Religion vs Science….The Great Debate! Maybe science can be someone’s religion. Perhaps science is the functional equivalent of worship for the rational human. I think scientists perform work as dedicated and heartfelt as religious devotion. Science offers us the same as religion….we can become better than we are and learn what is really true. They both involve the same basic human fear of death and the unknown, and the same longing for being above and independent of the material universe.

Does religion make you a better person? Obviously not, catholic priests devote their lives to religion yet they have demonstrated they are capable of commiting truly gruesome acts. A nonbeliever is just as capable of doing those exact same things.

Our inability to influence outcome is the great equalizer; makes the world fair. Computers generate random numbers in an attempt to glean meaning out of probability. Endless numerical sequences lacking any pattern. But during a cataclysmic global event: tsunami, earthquake, the attacks of 911 – these random numbers suddenly stop being random. As our collective consciousness synchronizes, so do the numbers. Science can’t explain the phenomenon, but religion does, it’s called prayer. A collective request sent up in unison, shared hope. Numbers are constant, until they’re not”. What i am trying to say is Both are Correct to an Extent. I think both are correct as well. There is so much we don’t know but I think there is an explanation for all the mysteries of the universe. The only thing I find offensive with regards to religion is the fear of judgement that is used to control good people and their thoughts. God is love….Love is a positive energy and fear is a negative energy. I think fear and religion are very closely related, almost on the same plane. Fear is intutive, because of the competetive nature, everybody is competing with everyone for survival. Fear is a survivial instinct. That’s the reason for the early evolution of religions, long before modern science took root.

If science means to know things as they are perfectly, how can modern science be said to be purely scientific? Modern day science is based on theories which are conjectures or educated guesses based on data gathered through imperfect senses and analyzed by imperfect and opinionated minds. Therefore it is not surprising when a scientist admits that his theory is not conclusive.

So what is popularly known as science today is not really science because it is not conclusive, final knowledge. Today’s popularly accepted scientific facts will eventually be displaced by a new set of scientific facts. Modern science tells us to reject blind faith, but yet it imposes upon us a new type of blind faith.

  14. Apparently the Higgs boson is both a particle and a field. Why is nobody talking about field/particle duality? It takes a Higgs with 125 times the mass of a proton to make one proton. What happens to the other 99%? Does the remaining 99% of the Higgs affect matter? If not, why not? Mass is a dimension, not a particle. Mass is like length and time. That is why energy is equal to mass times length squared divided by time squared. This is a major failure for humanity.

That is not to say that water and God are equal. Or that water is God. Nor is it an implication that God is like or is limited to a particle or molecule of water, or a trillion of them, which is absurd: God is bigger than a mud puddle, even a great big one…but that is not to say that He is not there.

    • No, it won’t lead to anything other than continued funding of CERN. The claim is that the Higgs is both a field and a particle. That is like saying an object is both matter and the space it occupies. They are also saying that one Higgs of 125 GeV will create a single proton of 1 GeV. The Higgs has tremendous energy, and yet it is not detectable except with a multibillion dollar collider, and even then they are not certain they have it right. Think about that.

A GeV is a unit of energy. It means something is working. What’s more, this something is space (a field). That is, the space is real and does something and gives protons their mass. By virtue of the proton moving through the Higgs it gets an energy of 1 GeV. But what is it in the proton that moves and picks up mass from the Higgs field? They cannot say nor do they care.

This is just a huge farce and someone should go to jail for perpetuating it at the cost of the public.

There was a famous physicist by the name of Frank Tippler who wrote a book called “The Physics of immortality” – and it was denounced by scientists for being too religious, not scientific. But in it, he used science theory and mathematics to prove, that if the Higgs Boson is eventually discovered (it was only hypothesized when he wrote his book) and then depending on the decay rate of it, if it is at a particular level, then God becomes provable, exists outside of time at the end of the universe when there is no more energy remaining and even the background radiation has finally lost all potential energy – and as the universe finally settles into its eternal lifeless fug, God will have already received all the information available on every living thing and event that ever took place and have reassembled this information into a subatomic structure in which every individual will become concious of everything as if it really is, but will exist in a subatomic state because of the lowest level of energy possible, all entropy nearly exhausted. He goes into the Biblical of people passing away and then coming concious again at this future point in space-time and the Higgs Boson was a requirement, to exist and to be at either a certain level of energy or rate of decay, and then all of his formulas fell perfectly into place and literally proved the existence of God. Yes, he did this in his book. It’s quite interesting, from many years back, so the Higgs Boson may be important in relation to his book/theory – and since it involves God, could be another hint as to why God Particle might be a relevant name for it.

I sense the author’s sincerity and yours with this post…and let me add one commentary to what you’re saying. Earth represents one fallen world and is merely a miniscule fraction of God’s creation. There are myriad worlds created that never fell into sin. Earth is only the one lost sheep that went astray. God is the high and lofty, self-existing One, which inhabits eternity and He does not need nor is He looking for man’s validation. Hath not the potter power over the clay? For He maketh one vessel to honor and another to dishonor. (Rom. 9:21) I don’t think the motivation of science has ever been to prove God — nor can it. God is a Spirit (for the Father seekth such to worship him, John 4:23, 24) —– science studies physical material matter ——-‘the light shineth in the darkness and the darkness comprehendeth it not.’ John 1:5. God cannot be found, understood nor is He in or under the glare of a telescope or microscope.

“O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” Romans 11:33

“Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.” Job 11:7-9

Men, in their ignorance, worship and revere the forces of nature but God is not in them. He merely upholds the creation by His own word and power. (Hebrews 1:3) God taught the brutal truth to the prophet Elijah that He was not in the forces of nature for men to revere. “But the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.” 1 Kings 19:11,12

If men were really interested in finding God, they needn’t look any further than ‘Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, for he hath declared him.’ John 1:18

God’s creation contains innummerable inhabited worlds of humans not creatures, but beings like us. There will be no contact with these worlds until sin has been eradicated on Earth and forever destroyed and Earth is reconciled back into the creation family. Christ is the source of all things emmanting from God, including the point of reconciliation. The world does not know nor does it yet fully understand how important Christ is.

Reconciling the word: “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their tresspasses unto them; and hath given to us the ministory of conciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19

Other worlds: “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” [worlds – plural] Hebrews 1:1-3

Other planets: Loud voice speaking from heaven: “Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them [inhabit the celestial heavens]. Now Earth: “Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath because he knoweth, that he hath but a short time.” Revelation 12:12

The Bible says there are three heavens:

        1) The firmament or expanse of sky – “the firmament showeth his handiwork” Ps 19:1, “And God called the firmament Heaven” Genesis 1:8
2). The heavens or cosmos – “Heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth his handiwork.” Ps 19:1
3). The celestial abode of God – “But he (Stephen), being full of the Holy Ghost looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God.” Acts 7:55

“I knew a man in Christ above 14 years ago…such a one caught up to the third heaven…and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.” 2 Corinthians 12:1-4

Weaponizing the results is the most logical assumption. If the “science” of history stays true to form. Mankind will find away to manipulate the findings and develop the Satan Partical.

I think this is the best description of God, who is infinite, omniscient, omnipotent, and eternal. All That There Is, is God.

How can any lab hold up to a temperature of 7 trillion degrees? If this is a man made temperature and it’s 250,000 times hotter than the temperature at the core of the Sun wouldn’t it have burned a whole right through the earth? Can someone explain this?

This temperature can only be attained on an almost infinitely small scale. its not like they are grtting something the size of a paper clip that hot. we are talking a particle or three.

This work will help determine if the theory of dark space is valid. In fact it may help prove the theory of relativity not correct which could support some of the newest theories of how the universe began. The big bang theory may. Be proven wrong. So much can be learned using the partial accelerator we must. Keep funding it.

This particle is truly a God-paricle in the sence that it could only emerge the way God created the universe. The findings in CERN is in total accordance with Barry Setterfields work on Plasma universe and Zero Point Energy (ZPE). The ZPE requires the God-particle which is a virtual particle turning on and off by the shockwaves from the Creation.

I wonder what the real reason for this CERN research. The European countries publicly driving this research are for the most part godless with man as the measure of all things. I suspect that knowingly or unknowingly these researchers are following a path laid out by Satan for the demise of God’s people. Classical science in the 1890’s thought it had explained everything, it was just a matter of being more precise with measurements. This CERN project reminds me in a small way of that thinking, if just keep breaking things apart then we will find the ghost in matter. There is one big difference, according to Francis Schaeffer in “How Should Live?” the early scientists were believers in God.

I think it’s great that science has made all of the discoveries that they have and I hope they continue making them. I only wish they would have called this particle something else. Calling it the God particle almost makes it seem as if the extereme scientists are trying to one up religion. I fear that with this discovery there will be a group of people who will stay from religion. I can almost foresee a new terrorist organization stemming from science.

I actually hope this new sub atomic article discovered turns many theories held by science on it’s head…We could very easily and I say are probably so completely off about our basic understandings of reality and we will probably never comprehend even 1/billionth of the basic structure of reality which is fine. The little God allows us to discover is thrilling… this is big…and the term “God particle” is a sensational one used by the media.

God has allowed so many scientific discoveries recently because it fits into His timeline and framework of prophecy (Daniel 12:4) and I believe to give even further proof that there is a God and to give praise to the source of it all. It’s not enough for most anymore because of pride in human intellect and the desire to shut God out of their existence.

Anyway, I’m really interested to see what this leads too, we have obviously not even scratched the surface of the surface of our existence but as long as God allows discovery, I’m excited and along for the ride

On the other hand, we know time is short and that knowledge is being used for evil things (genetic modification comes to mind) and it’s becoming more and more obvious that if God allowed technology to develop without stopping it, we would destroy ourselves and His creation.

A scientists job is too find out about and understand our universe. Higgs-Boson particle is only nicknamed the God particle. A lot of people get very hot and bothered by the unfortunate nickname it has accrued throughout the search for it. The God-Particle. If it was called the elephant polka-dot particle would people be offended? My friend is a theoretical physicst and he says the whole point of this project is to find the minimum level of existance. At what point does it begin. It is absolutely no commentary on who believes what. I think it is a tremendous discovery and could lead to amazing things for the human race. I dont know why people can be offended by something taht could lead to a better future for all of us. Alvin, iv got something written, myself and a friend have done. Its not overly long if you could contact my email address and i can forward it to you to see what you think. Or even if you have an address for submissions il send it to that address if your not comfortbable.

    Thanks

We already have uncontrollable bigger bombs than hydrogen.. one of the 1500 tubes in Fukeshema is enough to kill 3 billion immediately n wipe out food up North USA, maybe we can eat the food grown down South for awhile, but think about it, if that happens, (another big quake in the area) will anyone really want to eat? It would be to heartbreaking no? God gave us brains and we hunger for knowledge. I’m not a genius but I love God’s creation, love to understand how it works however the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. People who do not know God are ignorant bcz they are missing the obvious!

We all seem to take and leave scriptures as we please. I don’t believe that you can have a TRUE LOVE or RESPECT for someone when they force those things from you through fear. The Bible states that God is love……. The Bible states that we should fear God…… I can’t imagine a God of Love punishing someone for not fearing him. A loving God wouldn’t do that. The fear of the Lord written in the Bible simply mean the turning away from bad.

Greek philosopher Heraclitus was the first to advance a theory about the Logos. To him, the Logos was the universal principle which animated and governed the world. The Greek Stoics later developed the concept of the Logos further. They believed that the Logos was both an irresistible force which sustained the entire world and a holy law which every rational man should willingly follow
