Coal vein fire ? Or something else ??
My guess is that this may fall into the ‘something else’ category. Curious to find out how this story develops.

Reminds me of abandoned landfills in Arizona where compressed trash became toxic over time and converted to smoke, then combustible. I am not sure if that’s the case here for anything is possible these days.

We had those landfills here in Ohio too, so that could be a possibility, since they bury their trash. Either that, or an underground volcano.

there are coal mines in that area of the world which are just below the ground .perhaps its related to one of those surface coal mines catching fire again.j.

I’m wondering about spontaneous oxidation from CH4 seepage. It’s seems that contact with the air may have generated a reaction since the hole wasn’t very deep. There have been some reports on this. It’s similiar to spontaneous combustion. This is just an hypothesis looking at it from afar.
