New poll finds one in seven people thinks the end of the world is coming

May 3, 2012SIGNS OF THE TIMESNearly 15 percent of people worldwide believe the world will end during their lifetime and 10 percent think the Mayan calendar could signify it will happen in 2012, according to a new poll. The end of the Mayan calendar, which spans about 5,125 years, on December 21, 2012 has sparked interpretations and suggestions that it marks the end of the world. “Whether they think it will come to an end through the hands of God, or a natural disaster or a political event, whatever the reason, one in seven thinks the end of the world is coming,” said Keren Gottfried, research manager at Ipsos Global Public Affairs which conducted the poll for Reuters. “Perhaps it is because of the media attention coming from one interpretation of the Mayan prophecy that states the world ‘ends’ in our calendar year 2012,” Gottfried said, adding that some Mayan scholars have disputed the interpretation. Responses to the international poll of 16,262 people in more than 20 countries varied widely with only six percent of French residents believing in an impending Armageddon in their lifetime, compared to 22 percent in Turkey and the United States and slightly less in South Africa and Argentina. But only seven percent in Belgium and eight percent in Great Britain feared an end to the world during their lives. About one in 10 people globally also said they were experiencing fear or anxiety about the impending end of the world in 2012. The greatest numbers were in Russia and Poland, the fewest in Great Britain. Gottfried also said that people with lower education or household income levels, as well as those under 35 years old, were more likely to believe in an apocalypse during their lifetime or in 2012, or have anxiety over the prospect. “Perhaps those who are older have lived long enough to not be as concerned with what happens to their future,” she explained. Ipsos questioned people in China, Turkey, Russia, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, the United States, Argentina, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, France, Spain, Belgium, Canada, Australia, Italy, South Africa, Great Britain, Indonesia, Germany. –Reuters

I think people are at least starting to acknowledge the possibility of a finite existence- something that was almost unthinkable during the glutnous and over-indulgent 80’s and 90’s. I think this mindset reflects the complexity of problems in the world today. Natural disasters, wars, economic uncertainty, loss of jobs, austerity. Life has gotten increasingly more difficult for most people. Some families have been set back 20 years because of the economic crisis and the subsequent austerity hardships have eroded their standard of living. Many more have loss their homes. Government pensions, retirements, and educational subsidies have evaporated in countries like Spain and Greece. For many, the world is definitely ending- the world they thought they knew that had nestled securities that ensured a long prosperous life into old age. It’s sad and I deeply feel the dispair and broken bubbles of hope.

Too many prophecy’s wether biblical or other all combine and point to this time, now. Take one in particular. The prophecy of the next pope. Peter The Roman is prophecised to be the description of his work. It does not mean he will be a man from Rome. But rather that he will be a fanatic of the old roman empire and want the European Union to become like it. You think not so. Well Lets look at the EU today. Most observers believe it will fracture and disolve. But the book of daniel tells us it will eventualy form with ten nations giving their aliance to one supreme leaders/entity. It is this that this neaxt, and last pope will spiritually back. Also take Psalm 83 from the bible. This is a prophecy for our time “now”. It speakes of an unusual alliance of nations that form towards the end of time that make war with the descendents of ancient Israel. To the biblical scholar this is modern day Israel/USA/UK. The alliance spoken of in Psalm 83 will defeat these three nations in war. The modern descendents of this Psalm 83 alliance our Syria(after Assad who will fall shortly), Saudi Arabia, Turky Jordan but most exceptionally modern day Germany(Assur or Assyria, don’t get confused with modern day Syria). Germany will lead a slection of EU nations in the end time and this next POPE Peter The Roman will give it his blessing and backing. Hence the AntiChrist and the False Prophet are almost upon the unknowing world!

I’m a social worker that is why I’m saying this.

Amen to that, Cookie’s mum!! So well said! When I first started understanding the changes happening around us and it began to sink in, I went into a panic. Then the fear eventually paralyzed me. It’s amazing how obsessed a person can become with issues that are completely out of their control. I thought, how do I prepare? How can I possibly save my family from every form of disaster that may come upon us? Well, guess what? You just CAN’T. So make sure you are living life to the best of your ability, open your hearts and minds, be willing to help others that may need it in whatever way you can, and understand how precious life is. Love each other!! We are ALL going to die someday. Every single cotton-picking one of us. There ain’t no gettin’ around it, end of the world, or no end of the world. Stop passing judgment!! Stop trying to decide who’s to blame for this or that, and who should, or will suffer the most. Instead, put all that energy into being the best person you can be!

        Ms Cookie,
We are not gloom & doom ( I am talking about born again Christians here) and this has nothing to do with “consciousness or magic”, this is all pointing unsaved people to the One True God. His Bible tells us what His plan is, we are just excited to be living and seeing His prophecies unfold in our lifetime. It doesn’t matter how “good your life now” is, because it’s not about this earthly world, it’s about our eternal future with the Risen Christ. You sound new agey in your grammar which will lead you off that narrow path Christ speaks of. When the antichrist and his minion come, many will NOT take the mark of the beast and understand that means death. And in dying we receive our new eternal life with Christ. To suffer as Christ did is what all born again Christians are called to do. For the one who saves his life will lose it. Those who lose their life will save it in Christ.

And to Mr Connor, it has everything to do with God and nothing to do with man made religious systems. Know your Bible and know peace. No Bible, no peace.

I’m on a tight budget so I have had to take it slow (just a little each week). Anyway there are times when I myself get tired of waiting for the inevitable and just want all the garbage to start and get it over with. That is when the Lord reminds me that it is not quite time yet and not everything is in place.
What bothers me most about the subject, is the majority of folks have this all or nothing mind set, they either think nothing will happen or everyone is going to perish in one giant cataclysm. That is not what God’s Word says. I truly believe that we are about to experience the Seal Judgments. If this is true than when that happens 1/4 of the earths population will die as a result of massive global earth quakes and the ciaos that will be associated with it. Then the world will have 21 years to recover before the great Tribulation.

After they were done, the management said whatever, they’ll do? Combined with the bunkers and underground tunnels they have made in Denver, they know something that they are not telling us.Wonder how many taxpayer dollars all this preparation has cost? If you wanted to buy a pre-made underground shelter, you can go on a years waiting list. Watched a very informative video on utube on 2012 by Graham Hancock. Not to be confused with any govern-ment proclaiming there was a ‘mass abduction’ event – that one is the ‘false rapture’ – meaning genocide in disguise.

mrsotto – I respect your religious fervour so I must ask, what is your definition of a “Man made religious system”? Aren’t religions & belief systems Man’s attempt to understand & explain the natural world & for others a way to touch the Divine? And also, what is your definition of “Peace”? I know many people worldwide who do not need “saving”, who do not follow the Jewish/Christian biblical traditions in a religious/spiritual manner & are just as “peaceful”, if not more so than their non “New Agey” brothers & sisters – myself included. Our souls are just as clean & our consciences just as clear as anybody elses. We just believe & practice differently, it does not make us minions of an “Antichrist” or of a “Satan” – not that all believe in such an entity anyway. I’ve always believed that Religious Tolerance & Respect should have been the 11th commandent.

The wind & rain can weather & cause the disappearance of the written word, as Man himself can alter, add to, remove & hide the word of their chosen God. Therefore it is the Truth, Light & Love that we hold in our hearts which is pure & eternal & sets us free.

If the end of the world happens it will be at a time unknown to man, only thing we know is that it will be at the hand of man that life will end.

I love when people refer to the Mayan calender the same way as our 365 day calender. So let’s see, if something hasn’t taken place for 12,000 years then of course it just resets. The reality is that we all need to learn how to live the correct life style, being one with the earth. If you don’t have a garden or support local gardeners then you can count on it that you will be doomed on that final day. Along with a garden have love, peace, loyalty, and maybe even a form of religion. Once all the bad and evil in your life is gone then your path to the everlasting is set. There is no need for fear but to be complacent in the current system can and is 10x worse than spending every waking moment worrying. In te past year I have woken up to the realization that the world is not some calm peaceful place, in all reality one must monitor their surroundings and become an expert at what must be done to protect and serve the earth.

Arches were set up, tables were draped with linen cloth, pearls and red roses were strewn across the tables. Candles were everywhere, but not yet lit. A few people in formals and tuxes were moving around. Then I was led back to the dorm room. I woke up feeling very safe and loved, but also with the strong impression that the marriage supper is closer than we think. The obvious physical, economical and political deterioration of our world is certainly depressing. But for those who are in Christ, we have hope for a beautiful future with Him in our hearts.

Look at the migration from New Orleans after Katrina. When government and healthcare subsides evaporate; pestilence and disease outbreaks will follow. We will have to take a note from the animals on migrations and similarly learn to circumvent the perils. In places, the summers will become unbearable, as the winters will similarly become to harsh to survive, as the flooding and storms will create similar misery during the seasonal interims. There will be no respite to nature’s curse and these climate effects will only become more extreme and pronounced as the planet moves further in the direction of entropic catastrophism.

The Scriptures are clear, from beginning to end.  Abba had always delivered His people THROUGH, not FROM destruction, trials and tribulation.  Yes there will be a “rapture”, but Scriptute makes it clear it will be much, much later than we’ve been taught.

The major and minor prophets have the same continuing message.  Abba has been regathering and in gathering His people for a second exodus.

This writer is excited, yet very sober.  The turmoil we are witnessing is the unveiling, if you will, of two kingdoms — the kingdom of darkness and the Kingdom of Yahweh.  We get to choose whom we will serve.  Our thoughts, speech and our actions not only indicate which, but also determine.

Photon Belt – Galactic Plane or, as the Ancients referred to it, “The Dark Rift”. There is truth to be found, we just need to use discernment when looking for it. Love, Light & Blessings 🙂

To my new-found brothers and sisters in Christ, I am so hopeful and I believe, reading the comments filled with truths is an answer to my prayer from last night. With so many true believers and watchers saying the ‘time is near’ could we be witnessing a fulfillment of Acts 2:17 – our sons and daughters will prophesy, our young men are seeing visions, and the old men dream dreams. If so, then the bridegroom will be arriving for His bride sooner rather than later. I rejoice and give thanks to Jesus for all He has done, is doing and all that is to come. The truly greatest show on earth. Come Lord Jesus, come quickly. His will be done on earth. To hell with satan and his minions. Forever and ever. His peace be upon all His true believers.

CERTAINLY the way we once knew the world has ceased already.
We can thank nuclear “power” for that.
We can also lay the “credit” on the Gulf oil spill and its toxins which the human animal mixed with that oil to get it to sink “out of sight and out of mind”.
The radiation from Japan and the toxins in the oils are travelling the world at will – killing the plankton and krill.
This is the beginning of the end for living things.
The Earth will repair herself, recovering from the scourge of idiotic humanity – in due course.
So, yes, the world as we knew her is gone forever
