‘Disturbing’ rise in sex crimes in New Zealand partly blamed on earthquakes

April 2, 2012 NEW ZEALANDCanterbury police are lauding a drop in most types of offending in the past year, but sexual violence is on the rise. The number of sexual assault and related offences reported to Canterbury police increased by 16.4 per cent last year, from 318 offences in 2010 to 370 in 2011. Sexual-violence offending also rose nationally, with 3466 offences reported across the country, an increase of 14.9 per cent on the previous year. Canterbury district commander Superintendent Gary Knowles said the increase was “disturbing” and did not match other types of offending, which had all decreased in 2011. Much of the increase could be because more people were reporting this type of crime. “The more people come forward the better,’ he said. Knowles had put staff on the job of analyzing the figures, particularly the “why, where and how” of sexual violence. More police were also being put on frontline duties, which he hoped would help reduce offending. Te Puna Oranga manager Tania Mataki, who works with victims of sexual abuse and their families, said sexual violence appeared to have increased after the Canterbury earthquakes. “We’ve seen a lot of changes in people’s behaviors – a lot more drinking, a lot more drug abuse, access to [pornography on] the internet. Wherever alcohol is involved there are behaviors that will escalate,’ she said. Usually sexual offending was committed by someone known to the victim and many people since the quakes had been forced to share accommodation or resources. Some of the cases were historical, but some related to offences committed after the February 22, 2011, earthquake, when many families left their damaged homes and moved in with others, or had others move in with them, Mataki said. –Stuff.nz

According to the UN, New Zealand already is one of the worst places on earth for rape. That problem is increasing makes a bad thing worse.

I had no idea. I find New Zealand so beautiful and I had no idea it was one of the worst for rape. Disturbing and saddening that sexual violence is happening more and more there. Praying for the victims. And Jake it’s frightening to imagine if the grid goes down, absolutely terrifying.

I am from NZ, Canterbury…as I agree people are very depressed and this is bringing out the worst people….I highly doubt it is the worst country for rape. Unlike other countries we don’t have common sex trades etc. and I hear Africa is nasty for this type of thing. Just saying.

It won’t take the grid going down for that to happen. The panic that is to soon come over the world from the storm cloud of events marshalling on the horizon will bring things out of the entire human race, no one ever imagined they’ld see. Dark days are before us and what I say to you; I say to all- prepare.

Clergy + Monarchy + Nobility – American Revolution and French Revolution = U.S. Constitituion, Declaration of the Rights of MenClergy + State + Loss of liberties

Everything has come full-circle and it’s happened by credit. The State has once gain usurped authority over the populace not by war but by indebtness without firing a single bullet. And we know exactly where this is going especially with the NSA computer data center in Utah that can record every financial transaction. “That no man might buy or sale save he that had the mark of the beast or the number of his name.” Revelation 13:17

Wellington and Christchurch, NZ also allegedly witnessed an exceptionally bright meteorite yesterday that people exclaimed ‘they have never seen anything like it.’
People in those areas have seen such devastation in the last couple of years and surely it must really seem like the end of the world to them.
Interesting times indeed. We may be blessed to witness the greatest show on earth. The glorious return of Jesus Christ. I pray so and my heart tells me it is so.

I wonder if it could be something simular to what the full moons do? My ex Mother-in-Law used to work in the stress unit of a hospital and said on full moons, the amount of people who came in may double sometimes and a hundred pound crack-head would have the strength to fight off 4 grown men. I know the moon effects my sleep patterns and I have also heard a lot of people saying they are having very strange, almost prophetic dreams in the last few months. Of course we all know the moon affects the tides and mating seasons of some species, so logic would tell me that the pulls and pushs on our magnetosphere from these large CME’s could also effect peoples behavior in an adverse way.

It’s almost like we are being given glimpses, into what our world will become, when all we take for granted is lost. Rape is a truly disgusting crime, and not one I would like to face our Lord with.

I would not say this unless I myself had been a victim of rape. Yes, it is a disgusting crime. But there are crimes that are truly even more disgusting which I will not mention on this forum. Just read your headlines.

According to the national statistics (http://www.police.govt.nz/sites/default/files/00_national_2011_official_stats.pdf) – page 2, there appears to be a national decrease in sexual assaults over the last few years. The headline is misleading as it seems more relevant to Canterbury and the earthquake, not NZ as a whole. Data can be manipulated to say anything you want. On some of the sites that I googled, NZ and Australia were somewhere in the middle of graphs and statistics on ‘executions’, so I’m guessing that a lot of information includes historical data as well. Considering that NZ has only 4 million people, the data has obviously been taken out of context.

If the stats say “per capita” (and those that I saw all did), it makes no difference if the population is 4 million or 400 million. “Per capita” means the population numbers have already been factored in. If they were “per country” they would be meaningless… comparing apples to oranges.

Plus if they WERE “per country” it would look even worse for NZ. Crunch the numbers. The numbers “per country” that we are seeing would mean that rape would be like 10 TIMES more likely to occur than say in the United States. (In reality the US is not all that far behind NZ in rapes “per capita.” Not really a stat to be proud of but there it is.)
