Iran to definitely make an attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz say reports

January 23, 2012MIDDLE EASTTensions in the Gulf could reach a breaking point as a senior Iranian official said Iran would “definitely” close the Strait of Hormuz if an EU oil embargo disrupted the export of crude oil. Mohammad Kossari, deputy head of parliament’s foreign affairs and national security committee, issued the warning in respone to a decision by the European Union on Monday  to impose an oil embargo on Iran over the country’s alleged nuclear weapons program. “The pressure of sanctions is designed to try and make sure that Iran takes seriously our request to come to the table,” EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said. However, with Washington’s decision to deploy a second carrier strike group in the Gulf, the EU’s attempt to pressure Iran economically could greatly increase the likelihood of all-out war in the region. The Strait of Hormuz is the vital link between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It is also one of the most strategic chokepoints in the world when it comes to oil transit. With world oil output estimated at some 88 million barrels per day in 2011, the U.S. Energy Information Administration estimated that some 17 million of those barrels passed through the Strait. If economic sanctions sufficiently pressure Iran to retaliate by closing down the Strait, nearly 20 per cent of worldwide oil trade would be impacted, resulting in a massive spike in global energy costs. With over half a million regular forces and an additional 120,000 personnel in the country’s elite Revolutionary Guard,  analysts believe the consequences of a U.S.-led war against Iran would dwarf recent Western-backed military incursions the Middle East. Thus far, the U.S. decision to maintain two carrier strike groups in the region has been described as “a routine activity” by Iran. But the vast U.S. military buildup in the region, which was bolstered when the Pentagon dispatched an additional 15,000 troops to the neighboring nation of Kuwait, was only the latest step in an obvious attempt by Washington to strengthen its military capabilities in the region. –RT News

This is watching a minnow swim thru a sharks mouth, fassinating. Iran knows barry needs to restrain US involvement until just before he election, Israel dosn’t have that much time. Now the EU import imbargo, Iran is stretching the envelope, if a US commander slips, or jumps the gun and sinks an Iranian war ship,I would expect to see hypers sonic cruise missles screaming at the oldest carrier in the group.
The USS Azozel, last post before de commissioning, the 5,000 US lives are the only thing that counts, but from barry/SHI, they volunteered, tough shi#.

The stupid American policy being driven by the Zionist will start another war that the US will not gain anything but loss of life, military equipment and lots of money which we do not have. The US seems to be pushing Iran so hard in a hope that Iran will do something to “justify an American attack”. This is the way America works make the US look attacked yet we left the other side no choice.

Instead of recognizing Iran as a power and treat then as such maybe some progress could be made. The fundamentalist christian groups are also fanning the flames, hoping to bring on Armageon so Jesus will come. Jesus will come, but in His on good time.

The people of Iran need to speak up and tell the Iatola they really dod not want to get nuked off the planet just to prove a point! It seems these Dictators have NO VALUE for human life, only their ego’s. If enough of Iran’s citizens group together and make the world know they want no part in this maybe we can find another way to reach an agreement.

Navy wants commando ‘mothership’ in Middle East
The Pentagon is rushing to send a large floating base for commando teams to the Middle East as tensions rise with Iran, al-Qaeda in Yemen and Somali pirates, among other threats.
In response to requests from U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, the Navy is converting an aging warship it had planned to decommission into a makeshift staging base for the commandos. Unofficially dubbed a “mothership,” the floating base could accommodate smaller high-speed boats and helicopters commonly used by Navy SEALs, procurement documents show.
