Diseased seals washing ashore in Alaska being tested for possible Fukushima radiation exposure

December 29, 2011ALASKA Scientists in Alaska are investigating whether local seals are being sickened by radiation from Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant. Biologists at first thought the seals were suffering from a virus, but they have so far been unable to identify one, and tests are now underway to find out if radiation is a factor. Scores or multiples of twenty, ring seals have washed up on Alaska’s Arctic coastline since July. Their symptoms include: bleeding lesions on the hind flippers, irritated skin around the nose and eyes, and patchy hair loss on the animals’ fur coats. John Kelley, Professor Emeritus at the Institute of Marine Science at the University of Alaska Fairbanks said, “We recently received samples of seal tissue from diseased animals captured near St Lawrence Island with a request to examine the material for radioactivity. There is concern expressed by some members of the local communities that there may be some relationship to the Fukushima nuclear reactor’s damage.” Test results would not be available for several weeks. –ENE News

Depending on the test results this has the potential to be quite an alarming find!

What’s happening in Japan is being ignored by the media. Thank you Alvin for reporting this.

I am concerned, if the test results will even be published, depending upon what they find.

    I’ll be following this story.
IF they find out that this is due indeed, to radiation, then Yes, it will be VERY alarming, because it would indicate to biologists and scientists, that it took mere months, instead of years, for the contamination to get to the North American coastline, from the vast reaches of the Pacific.

I wonder how much msm coverage this will get in CA

    please pass it around

Happy New Year, Alvin. Thank you for your diligence in keeping us informed — you’re the best!

This is so sad. It makes you want to cry. And knowing what we are also breathing and eating and they are not telling us everything is so horrible.

Given the route of the currents in the north Pacific and the general routes the species of pacific salmon that frequent northern waters take, I have been expecting something like this. Seals are way up the food chain and you are going to see the problems manifest due to their repeated consumption of contaminated fish, plus the spread of contaminated ocean water is going to have an impact. Additionally we have the problem of releases into the atmosphere and the deposition of these contaminants via precipitation…………. which is obviously a frequent occurrence along the North American Pacific coast, starting in Alaska.

It is not like the release of radioactive water into the ocean or radioactive compounds into the atmosphere was a one time occurrence, it has been continuous for many months and it has been at a level that is far worse than we were initially being told. It has continued unabated, despite the MSM either ignoring the ongoing event or choosing only to release erroneous, self-serving statements by the companies involved and the Japanese government, such as the latest announcement that the reactors were now deemed to be in cold shutdown.

The goal has always been to keep the public uninformed and thus, less likely to panic. This has historically been the case when it comes to nuclear accidents, with the truth taking many years to surface. It is a dad state of affairs, but truthfully I think most people prefer to be happy in their ignorance.

This has to be the most mismanaged absolutely ridiculous lapse in our “intelligent” society I have ever seen. How can it NOT be so, when Japan dumped unknown amounts of radioactive water into the ocean…and I would suspect it is still going on. The Lord is the only HOPE for salvation of his creation. Has the hearts of mankind grown cold??? While reading this I am living in the bread basket agriculture area of the US…and just finished reading an article by Mike Adams about spraying the world food basket with AGENT ORANGE. I will be contacting all my representatives about this. Can you believe it? Come Lord Jesus…Come. Alvin, thank you for your updated information – it propels me to seek the Lords face DAILY.

What are the symptoms of radiation poisoning in humans? Lesions, hair loss, dizziness, disorientation, fatigue, infections, poor wound healing (just to name a few).

If it looks like a duck, talks like a duck, smells like a duck; how many tests do you have to perform to tell me it’s a duck? And how long do I have to wait for you to tell me this?

That is exactly what I was thinking! No virus found, just obvious symptoms of radiation poisoning, so what’s the issue? Lets just see how long we can pretend this isn’t happening. How bout this? Turn out the lights, the poor thing probably glows in the dark!!

This is really of major importance. It from swimming in radioactive water or from eating radioactive contaminated fish and ocean wildlife? What does this mean to the fishing industry? Is there a possiblity of eating fish from the pacific and having this happen to humans? Again, this is really major importance and has not been publicised through msm at all.

I have only one question. Were is all of the testing by our Department of health? Water, fish, milk, coastal land, farm land. Or, is it already known and being with held? If I had to make a guess that would be my answer

This is actually the first I heard of it. I wonder if the CDC and health depts around the coast from Alaska to California will track miscarriages, deformed or mentally challenged children born from now… like 3 Mile Island, If there is enough radiation to affect the seals enough to kill them, there is enough radiation to affect reproduction of humans, too. Will if affect all Pacific fishing? All the currents go around the coast back up through Hawaii then to Japan again. I wonder when lobsters, whales and other fish will show up with some radiation poisoning? Alaska should be on the alert. The Department of Health should rush this investigation.
