  1. I wonder which forces are behind all this.Capitalism is the tool of the evil. Its Mammon.
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can not serve both God and Mammon.”
    —Matthew 6:19-21,24
Mammon is commonly personified as the demon of avarice, richness and injustice.

      @ Barbara,
I am not well versed in Biblical writings, but those words are so true and wise.

Barbara – I so agree with your verse there. However, it isn’t capitalism itself that is evil, although it appears to be at this time. It is the greed that has come out of capitalism. There is no evil in making a profit in order to provide for ones family, since every business does require capital (cost of running the business including paying the employees fair wages). The Bible does say that we are to provide for our families and to treat employees fairly. But now it has become a race to see who could make the most profit. There are so many who make more money than they know what to do with (see: Hollywood. I mean, who needs to buy a ring that is worth more than the house I’m living in.)

No matter, all those who have used their wealth for personal pleasure [once again, see Hollywood] instead of supporting our Lord and His ministers/missionaries, will one day have to stand in front of a Holy God and explain what they did in their life. Their works will be burned in the fire.

      1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

There’s a song that the Gaither Vocal Band did called Second Fiddle. The 2nd verse really rang true when I really paied attention to the words.

“I once knew a man that was climbin’ the ladder
His portfolio was all that mattered
He made lots of cash didn’t give much away
His very best friend was his CPA, a beautiful wife, two girls and a boy
But his IRA was his pride and joy
His own net worth became divine
At the altar of his bottom line
But then the market turned and his bank account ran dry
Betrayed by his money god, he just hung his head and cried.”

The lure of riches is a temptation that many people can’t resist. [Maybe that is why I never won the lottery.]

Irene, it is neither capitalism nor greed that led to our current problems. It is bad fiscal policies set by Congress, period. The bank and mortgage failures came from Congress *forcing* banks to lend to people who really didn’t qualify. We knew that this would become a problem years before it did. Capitalism and the drive for personal profit is the solution to our current woes, not the cause. We need to remove or reduce regulations that inhibit business growth and reduce income taxes, thus incentivizing business owners and others to increase business activity. That, and only that, will solve our current economic slump. Government can only, at best, get out of the way and let the private sector flourish.

I have difficulty understanding why men treasure up so much wealth, which cannot be carried into our future eternal existence and neglect their fellowman and the responsibility therein; which will be carried into eternity. .

To say that capitalism is “the tool of evil” is not only absurd,it is intellectually indefensible. If you bothered to look at all of the countries that are collapsing around the globe you would find that they all share one common trait and that is socialism. The problems that we are facing here in America were caused by flagrant overspending by our government and all of the liberal entitlement programs that it has created. Capitalism creates the most opportunity for the most people while socialism impedes opportunity for everyone but the ruling elite. In the words of Winston Churchill “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy,it’s inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery” and history has proven this, time and again.

      Barbara::Good Morning:::
      So true, However
Socialism is also a tool of the evil.
Communism is also tool of the evil.
Taking the less of the three evils, I choose Capitalism and individual freedom to grow and prosper. There is nothing wrong with having money, it is wrong to love it more than your soul
However, again, I believe that there has been a coup within the US goverment which could have occurred at the turn of the 19th century and the creation of the Federal Reserve, a Central Bank.

Again I reiterate that Spain ‘s headlong plunge into ill conceived and highly mortgaged green projects coupled with socialist radical mindset are sending Spain into a black hole of despair.

Agreed; socialism & corporatism are ruining an awful lot of countries right now. I just wonder if the Spanish government is playing the same sort of numbers game with their unemployment statistics that the U.S. government does with ours – if so, the real Spanish unemployment rate could be much higher than 22% already. Here’s hoping conditions improve under the new government, though at this point I really doubt anyone can turn things around, even if the political will was there.

Radical socialism like demonic temptation work to rip souls away from God and through their arrogance are driving a great people to their knees and while there God willing they will wake up and throw out all those false communistic self proclaimed saviors with their twisted agendas, then and only then will they be able to start climbing out of the hole that they’re in.

My guess is that in the fullness of time, historians will admit that this Depression was just as bad, if not worse than the Great Depression. The difference is that the value has been lifted from everyone’s pockets in the form of lost equity in their homes; and we don’t have homeless in the streets because of Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Medicare and Medicaid. And the GOP wants to take all of those away too! Yikes!
