Oklahoma’s nightmare continues- state shaken by strong 4.7 magnitude earthquake

November 8, 2011OKLAHOMAA 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck 9 km (5 miles) from Prague, 10 km from Sparks and about 71 km (44 miles) from Oklahoma City. It is the strongest tremor to strike the state since the 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck over the weekend. Geologists still have no explanation for why such intense earthquakes are rattling the state. The number of earthquakes recorded in Oklahoma has soared from its historical average of about 50 a year to 1,047 last year and that record is likely to be broken this year, said Austin Holland, a seismologist at the Oklahoma Geological Survey. Until last year, the highest number of earthquakes Oklahoma state had recorded was 150, in the mid-1990s.
Mystery intensifies: Scientists are puzzled by the recent seismic activity. It appeared the latest quake occurred on the Wilzetta fault, but researchers may never know for sure. Earthquakes that hit east of the Rocky Mountains are harder to pinpoint because the fault systems are not as well studied as major faults like the San Andreas in California. There are 181 injection wells in the Oklahoma county where most of the weekend earthquakes happened, said Matt Skinner, spokesman for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, which oversees oil and gas production in the state and intrastate transportation pipelines. But natural gas companies claim there is no proof of a connection between injection wells and earthquakes, and a study released earlier this year by an Oklahoma Geological Survey seismologist seems to back that up. It found most of the state’s seismic activity didn’t appear to be tied to the wells, although more investigation was needed. “It’s a real mystery,” seismologist Austin Holland of the Oklahoma Geological Survey said of the recent shaking.”At this point, there’s no reason to think that the earthquakes would be caused by anything other than natural” shifts in the Earth’s crust, Holland said. –NY Daily News

WOW !!! Amazing !! ANOTHER quake in OK. ??!?!?

I guess the Midwest is not as ‘geologically stable’ as once thought.

I wonder if this is related, to the recently discovered fault line in the state of AR. next door.

    Alvin,

These quakes are now increasing in areas that don’t normally have quakes. I have a feeling that this planet may now be approaching the 12th hour and that the sands may be almost out of the hour glass. What do you think? Could that be a reasonable assessment? I’m not setting dates.

    • I think its definitely getting more serious and harbors the potentialy for a sudden escalation of geological activity from any number of unforeseen triggers. Once tectonic plates and faults are destabilized and the magma starts flowing en masse; all bets are off for any more restful nights for the majority of people on this planet.

  3. And on top of that, they’re getting slammed with bad storms and tornadoes. I have friends in Oklahoma City. My prayers for all of them.

Crazy… Felt this one in southeast Kansas again. How is it that this site beats everyone to press with these things…. Well… With the exception of the usgs site that is.

I don’t necessarily believe the world is ending or any deity is returning, but I do believe that Alvin is deity-like in his ability to find and post these articles!

I just hope people wake out of their slumber before it is too late. I try to hint without being overt with most people but I already have a list and have gone through so many plans and preps in my mind and in action. Every since I was first told through years of watching after realizing how many things came together from so many different sources across time and humanity. Nuggets past generations left us to watch for. Not from a prepping standpoint only, but from a you should never forget these things or if you do remember that there was a time when people like you had to do things to get to where they wanted to be and to survive. Anyway, enough of that for now.

    Namaste.

If there’s even a question to if there may be, then why don’t u stop till futher investigation is invested!.. Here is a situation “they” can’t explain but continue to take from the earth, they can’t give back,.. You take from the planet, what cannot be giving back and expect what?…

    • Kesha…they tried to stop the Frack drilling operations in Arkansas when they thought there was a connection to their quakes and the Frack operations. Truth is that there was no decrease in the amount or intensity of their quakes (the put a moratorium on frack drilling for a year). Seriously, I can understand your concern but this industry puts food on many ppls tables for their families so a complete shut down of drilling operations in these states would be catastrophic in an already unstable economy. Another thing I would like to clarify real quick is that Fracking (Fracturing the formation with high pressure water, salt, and very minimal chemicals…about 1/100 of a percent) is different than an Injection well sometimes. Sometimes an injection well is just a place to get rid of formation water that needs to be separated from the petroleum or shale that is taken out of the ground. I’m not clear on whether these wells mentioned in the article are Frack wells or just simply that…disposal wells. I’ll do some checking though and post what I find a little later.

We have a Tornado Watch and a storm approaching right now. I am in Tulsa. The quake could be felt quite strong for about 10 secs and then it eased up, can’t believe how loud they are. Definitely an interesting evening. I minored in Geography at college in London and all that I studied suggests that we are experiencing foreshocks, I really believe the big one is yet to happen. Please keep us in your prayers.

Felt this one again, was upstairs the whole house shook but this one was fairly short maybe 15-20 sec. I am afraid this is only the beginning of some very serious activity over the next 14 months. I for one plan to prepare for life after a large earthquake here in Oklahoma, this is something I had not planned on before the last three large quakes. If we were to have a large one it would not take long for all stores to be out of everything. Drinking water and food to last several months seems to be in order.

Well, if previous reports indicate magma is pushing natural gas deposits to the surface because it is rising, then these smaller EQ’s are minor events to what could happen here.
I think Oklahoma should prepare for a major EQ event to include unexpected after effects of the
    EQ.

    just a thought…………

Lets not forget the fracking industry is on tape admitting their operations cause earthquakes.

So, if we look at the coordinates of the oklahoma quake, yup, there they are. Multiple fracking sites within that area.

    …………………….”
I’ve had several conversations with a friend of mine who used to mine in Nevada when she was young. They had similar problems out west with ‘water’ and earthquake activity. Never did get a clear understanding of it- just seemed to be a correlation there. I would be thinking many mining areas would need to be studied before making a comment like the one I quoted.

I am just glued to your book Alvin and look forward to your email alerts each day. What are your thoughts on HAARP…I do believe some of our strange weather and earthquakes (i.e. Oklahoma) are being exacerbated with this earth-based star wars weapon. What are your thoughts?

    • That’s about the best news any author could ever hope to hear. Thank you for your kind words and glad you find the book to be of compelling interest. As far as HAARP- I think it’s an over-played hand. Every natural disaster that occurs is blamed on HAARP. The latest thing I heard was blamed on HAARP was the storm heading for Alaska- the very location where HAARP is.

ONE Seismologist did a study. Only one? Why aren’t there many studies being done? Is there a cover-up? And I know lots of people are employed by oil and gas companies including members of my family, but if serious damage is being done that affects thousands of people, we need to stop it. If it’s not a factor, then we need to know that.

    • The belief that everything is a conspiracy is a conspiracy. To borrow a line from playwright David Mamet: “Sometimes things are exactly what they appear to be.”

Law of the syllogism in deductive reasoning

Premise: There has never been an earthquake produced by fracking that has exceeded a 5.0
Fact: The earthquake in Oklahoma was a 5.6 magnitude
Conclusion: Therefore, the earthquake in Oklahoma could not have been induced by fracking

There is nothing faulty with this premise. Our job in the scientific inquiry process of experimentation is to find collaborative evidence that disproves the factual thesis.
