7.2 magnitude shallow earthquake strikes Eastern Turkey- 279 killed

October 23, 2011TURKEYA 7.2 earthquake hit eastern Turkey today where at least two buildings collapsed in the city of Van, near the Iranian border, authorities said. “Two buildings collapsed in Van, but the telephone system is jammed due to panic and we can’t assess the entire damage immediately,” Van Mayor Bekir Kaya, told NTV television, according to the Associated Press. The quake struck the region at 1:41 p.m. local time. The quake was upgraded from a 6.6 to 7.3 magnitude. The U.S. Geological Survey later revised the magnitude to 7.2. Its depth was considered shallow – 20 km or 12.4 miles — shallower than the January 2010 Haiti quake. State-run media reported rescue crews were working to free people were trapped under the a seven-story building that collapsed. Residents of Van and neighboring towns poured into the streets as several strong aftershocks rock the area. There are many people under the rubble,” Mayor of the district of Celebibag Veysel Keser told NTV, the Associated Press reported. “People are in agony, we can hear their screams for help. We need urgent help.” it is unclear the number of injuries were sustained or deaths have occurred due to the earthquake. –ABC News
Alpide Belt stress eruption: The earthquake in eastern Turkey is part of the stress I warned about on the Alpide Belt in previous posts. The Alpide belt is being created by ongoing plate tectonics, namely the process of collision between the northward-moving African, Arabian and Indian plates and the Eurasian plate. The USGS says: “The next most seismic region outside the Ring of Fire is the Alpide belt extends from Mediterranean region, eastward through Turkey, Iran, and northern India.” –The Extinction Protocol

Been on the news the whole day. Even CNN has reported it and I saw the report on Sky, BBC and CNN.
They saying that it is normal for this region to have quakes and the usual false reassurance statements.
They reporting these events in isolation and are ?conveniently not “connecting the dots” on all the tectonic activity.
The CNN guy is the worst! Hahaha… He just seems so false.

Why are you all expecting that the MSM would one day tell the truth!!! People keep telling me ”There’s nothing we can do anyway” Even if the media warn us about coming catastrophic events, THERE’S NOTHING WE CAN DO!!! Earth will be soon unbearable to mankind, spread the news and you’ll see chaos, riots, looming all over the world.

Enjoy everyday single day like it’s the last day of your life, because this last day might be coming sooner than you thought…

I live in Canterbury, New Zealand….and I can tell you that a warning of a very large quake being imminent would be really APPRECIATED if the govt. or other groups know about it. Unless people have been through this, they don’t understand. Panic is going to occur anyway….but you can be on ‘high alert’ and prepare better. But it crushes you to live in that state.
Living like it’s your last day is faaaar more stressful than you realise…even with your faith firmly grounded.

Two 7 and above earthquakes in about two days, plus the volcanoes and the LISS readings show earth vibrating and ringing like a bell- looks like another quake will happen soon. Bless the people of Turkey and wherever the futures ones strike.

If the Alpide belt extends from Mediterranean region, eastward through Turkey, Iran, and northern India and Turkey is getting pummelled with quakes in the same area than would it cause more stress on the surrounding regions mentioned here or would it be releasing stress for the other regions?

15 quakes in one day and two of them are 7 is that normal for that region? I think not.

if i’m not mistaken there has been allot of volcanic activity in the lake van area 100,000 years ago, could this be another undiscovered super volcano or just a regular eruption in the lake or on land? What do you think Alvin?

It’s not just the 7+ earthquake – the whole region hasn’t stopped shaking since!

Check out the csem/emsc website! The sheer number of aftershocks seemed to have crashed the site earlier on today.

  11. Since the first thing I do every morning is to check the weather for the day, so I heard about this on The Weather Channel. It got me moving and I ended up turning the computer on earlier than I normally do. It seems like a natural disaster gets me moving faster than any cup of coffee can.

I wish there were a way we could “forecast” an earthquake. I’m not sure how people would prepare, but I, for one, would pitch my tent and sleep outside if possible. As for an earthquake forecast causing panic – I remember in the early 50’s, the idea of a tornado warning was forbidden, thinking that such a warning would cause panic. Several meteorologists started breaking that rule. It was discovered that there was no panic and lives were saved. However, the problems happen when warnings are given and the projected disaster doesn’t happen and the people become complacent.

Praying for all of these people. There are so many who live in remote areas and have limited means of communication to the outside world and to relief agencies.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey’s main seismography center says the 7.2-magnitude quake that hit the east of the country could have killed up to 1,000 people.

The Kandilli observatory’s estimate is based on the strength of the quake and the structure of the housing in the area.

“We are estimating a death toll between 500 and 1,000,” Mustafa Erdik, head of the Kandilli observatory, told a televised news conference Sunday.

The deputy prime minister says around 45 buildings have collapsed in the town of Ercis and the city of Van. Ercis sits on a geological fault line.

You will probally never see these events getting much coverage on traditional “news” sources Carol. With all that is going on, earthquakes, volcanoes erupting daily it may very may cause a panic because most people don’t realize there really isn’t anything we can do, other than try to prepare (store food and water) as best we can. If something big happens in the U.S, the Government won’t be able to help you or protect you. You will all be left to our own devices, assuming of course that we even survive. If it wasn’t for TEP I wouldn’t have a clue what was really going on in the world. I guess for some ignorance is bliss but personally I don’t want to be the last to know. Blessings to all.

Alvin, A scripture that has me puzzled is, Pray that your flight isn’t in winter or the Sabbath. With everything that is happening in the world right now, could you explain this for me. Thanks.

    • Barb, Jesus was also prophesying about the destruction of Jerusalem which occurred in 70 AD. This scripture foretold what was to take place when the Roman legions surrounded Jerusalem under the leadership of Titus and committed one of the worst urban slaughters in history- killing an estimated one million Jews. Jesus starts a series of prophecies in Matthew 24:2 when he spoke of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem that “there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” Roman soliders entered the most holy part of the temple, burned copies of the Torah and sacrificed swine to the god Jupiter, spilling swine blood on the altar- “the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place” Mathew 24:15. The Roman legions laid seige to Jerusalem and many of the inhabitants of the cities starved to death. On the Sabbath, in accordance with Hebrew customs, the gates of Jerusalem were closed.

And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath…” Nehemiah 13:19

Thus, for reasons still unknown…Roman legion appeared to withdraw from a defensive parameter around the city walls at one point and this is when Christ followers took liberty to flee destruction (just as He warned) through gates and secret tunnels not being in the winter or on the Sabbath day before the Romans killed all of its inhabitants.

Jesus said: “And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.” Luke 21:20 and it happened just as predicted it would.

You are a true Blessing With the landslide of interpretations being fed surrounding the Word of God, It’s not been easy to find a True Servant of God to Enlighten and give Hope in Truth. My struggle has been great , but I think I finally get it. I cannot do this on my own, as I always thought I had to. Just let God!! I think that sums it up quite nicely, don’t you?
