Growing tension along Cascadia subduction zone: Washington rattled by series of tremors

October 15, 2011 SEATTLEWashington has been hit by three earthquakes in four hours. Two of the quakes were in the 3.4 magnitudes and very shallow- ranging in depth from 8.5 to 1.4 km. There was also a 2.9 magnitude earthquake, less than 1 km in depth, near Mt. Rainer. Mount Rainier is a massive stratovolcano located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle in the state of Washington, United States. It is the most topographically prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and consequently the Cascade Volcanic Arc, with a summit elevation of 14,411 feet (4,392 m). Mt. Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, and it is on the Decade Volcano list of potentially catastrophic volcanoes that could erupt with very deadly consequences. Because of its large amount of glacial ice, Mt. Rainier could potentially produce massive lahars that would threaten the whole Puyallup River valley. The last eruption of Mt. Rainer occurred in 1894. Recently, the icy summit has been stirred by tremors which again portends the fact that the northwest quadrant of the U.S. is becoming more geologically active. On September 9th, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Vancouver Island and recently, a 5.3 earthquake struck the off the coast of Oregon on October 13, 2011. On April 6, a massive undersea eruption occurred and was later discovered by Oregon State University geologist Bill Chadwick in August. The eruption produced a lava flow 1.2 miles wide. Also in September of this year, scientists discovered a 32.2 km (20 mile) long fault under Mt. Hood in Oregon that was capable of generating a magnitude 6 or 7 earthquake. Scientists believe a 9.0 earthquake is long overdue for the Cascadia Subduction Zone of the Northwest but ultimately, the geological change potentially facing the region could be something even more dramatic. In 2009, New Zealand geologists discovered preliminary evidence which suggested the volcanic mountains of Washington might all be linked by a common magma pool. (See diagram below). The almost linear volley of volcanoes strewn across the northwest U.S. corridor from Northern California to Washington, may suggest the entire region could be susceptible to cascading fissure tear eruptions from the strait of San Juan de Fuca to northern California if the entire region was thrown into upheaval from a series of major earthquakes. Admittedly, this is a worst-case scenario that could only be triggered by a string of very large continuous earthquakes and such a catastrophe may never happen but it does highlight some of the potential dangers of the underlying hazardous faults and volcanic systems buried in the region.1The Extinction Protocol

I live in Paraguay where we have no seismological disturbances. But we have deep poverty and corruption in government, droughts, extreme temperatures extreme. Disease and epidemics visit us here. My sister and I were stricken with swine flu and dengue fever. People are dying without hearing about Jesus. Your website is quite convincing that life on earth is coming to an end. I am wondering if you are a Christian and have accepted Jesus as your personal Savior . My family is doing spiritual work in this country because there are many who are not ready to meet God. We have a solemn duty to share Christ with as many as we can.

    Christian greetings from Hanni

    Great website!

When Planet Earth goes into extinction, how many people, Alvin, will have heard that there is a way to survive it by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior?

    Keep the good work up.

    • I believe a lot. The Lord is working in ways invisible and indiscernible to human eyes. Everywhere the precepts of truth falls, the susceptible and willing heart is delible to the influences and graces of God that falls from heaven like rain. God will pour out His spirit in the last days. What we saw on the day of Pentecost will be repeated in greater magnitude. Many will secure their decisions with Christ in the 11th hour. One final message is to be given to the humanity by the mighty angel (messengers of God) who cries with a loud voice and calls God’s faithful out of the corruptive system of Babylon. Revelation 18

You read too much into the Bible. Jesus told stories using parables. That should be a hint to all who try to interprit. Few on earth are privy to anything beyond. Scientists are just recently finding more about man’s past. Dead Sea Scrolls and the shrowd of Turin are very interesting. I was raised Catholic and believe in God yet like you its “Faith,” that continues. The earth is in a 33 year cycle of Volcanism. Expect some nasty eruptions. Ring-of-Fire is moving to the west coast apparently because of plate tectonics a natural phenomenon. Look up Edgar Casey God used him he live in your parents lifetime.

  5. I used to live there. One of my homes had a gorgeous view of Mt. Rainier. I wish I were in that beautiful place anyway. I’ve been in five medium sized quakes there, one closer to the mountain. My stepson lives a few miles from Ashford where the latest Rainier quake was. Around there they have quake drills to get to high ground and escape lahars coming down the valley.

I live near Mt. Rainier as well. It’s a blessing to live next to such a breathtakingly beautiful mountain, but I have to remind myself from time to time – how it became that way. I am much more concerned about whether or not we’ll get the “big quake” in my lifetime, but volcanoes and earthquakes can go hand in hand. Having those drills reminds us that it can happen at any time, and we have to be prepared.

Reading your website is not for the fainthearted. Where is safety to be found when total extinction takes place?

    Like

    • Future extinctive geological events will roll across the planet but there will be survivors. We’ll have to become more mobile and smaller in numbers to migrate out of harms way when the time comes. I don’t think there will be a total extinction because I believe God will ultimately intervene to rescue his people before the process reaches critical mass. Earth’s is just the last in the string of terrestrial planets to geologically overturn.

      Susan,
I don’t really know all that will be in store for us, but would like to share with you a dream that I had that comforted me.
I dreamed that I was at Church and there was an empty seat beside me. As I sat there waiting for the services to begin, I had the feeling that someone had come and stood by the empty chair beside me, looking at me for a minute. I glanced up and it was a very dear friend who had passed away about thirty years ago, his face was filled with joy. Joy just radiated from him. He sat down beside me. I started talking to him (it was more like a communication of thought rather than words), asking him if he knew about the different thing that had happened with our family, friends and community. He knew and affirmed that he had been very aware.
I then told him that I was worried about all the things that were happening in the world and my concern for the safety of my children, grandchildren and loved ones. I asked him where we could go to be safe.
He told me he had something to show me and in an instant we were transported to a place I had never seen before; and there were homes being built there, there was an air of industry and people were working together. There was so much more that I saw and it was so beautiful! I kept thinking, I have to remember this! I have got to write it down so I don’t forget. I wish I could remember it all
Then I was told that this was not just a place but also more a state of the heart.
A people of one heart serving God and their fellowmen ~~ working together ~~ to prepare for the days ahead and after. A safe place……
He then held his palms out and I saw that he held some seeds in his palms, he tossed the seeds up into the air and said aloud, “Let it begin!” and there was a clap of thunder. And the dream was done.
So I would say again…. it’s not just a place but the state of our hearts.
May God bless you and yours!

  7. Nothing to fear…just know the hazards. Many of you probably never knew the world harbored so many potentially dangerous spots prior to many of these posts. Now you know. If the worst ever does come, you’ll be in know why and can move when the time comes as warning signs escalate. Part of the problem awkening people to this message of impending geological change is the shock of so many finding out there are so many dangerous hazard zones across the globe- that no one told them anything about… and that comes from living out of harmony with creation. We’re no longer connected to Earth as we used to be and as indigenous people are who still pass their regional histories down to successive generations.

Why should you believe him good question? I suspect by reading your misgivings will become more vivid. God used this individual. Scientist suspect he is right but by any conclusion it hasn’t happened yet. All they can assume is what is already proven. Time and space is not part of our realism not yet anyway. The Subduction zone off west coast is overdue so are some nasty faults. 47% is almost 50 see the danger? Preparedness is key to survival. Alvin, do you believe that the Rapture will take place or some other type of Divine intervention will occur just before this full blown crisis results in the total extinction of life on earth?

    Like

    • I don’t believe in a rapture but I believe in the visible bodily return of Christ at the 2nd coming and that “every eye shall see him and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.” Revelation 1:7. It has been said, the third time is a charm…well, every two thousands years…it appears God intervenes in human history- the flood, the birth of Christ and then the 2nd coming. As I have stated before, I think this is a more than an appearing of the Prince of glory…it’s a rescue plan. I think events will become so precarious on this planet that intervention, no matter how fanciful it appears now, will be seen as the only hope from certain extinction.

      Like

    • Brandon – there are some of us here who do believe in the rapture of the church prior to the seven years of tribulation (wrath) which will be followed by the physical second coming of Jesus on the earth.

      Colossians 3:6
For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: [children of disobedience = those who rejected the Son of God]

      1 Thessalonians 5:9
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

And there are others who believe as Alvin does. Then there are also those who believe something totally different. However, we respect each others beliefs. But the one thing we do all agree on: There are a lot of earth changes going on, many which appear (at least to some of us) to be divinely directed. That is why I value Alvin’s, luisport’s, and other blogger’s wisdom and knowledge. And this is why I also pray for everyone here for protection and divine intervention.

  14. It is amazing how the signs of the time pop up in all spheres of life. My field is economics, especially the gold and silver market. From my own analysis, I see the worst economic event in the last 200 yrs, if not ever, coming our way. My gold analysis is currently signaling the end of the current world monetary system (soon). The Scripture’s cycles of judgment (40yrs, 70yrs and 80yrs) is very relevant to our economic systems. For example, we are in a period that is about 80yrs since the Great Depression, and similar conditions to the Great Depression is here today. 2014 will mark 70 yrs since the Bretton Woods agreement which established the current monetary system. This year is 40 yrs since Nixon closed the “gold window”

I believe the worst is at our doorstep; we have to prepare for the worst.

Gold standard doesn’t work well in today’s world economy. Living within your means does. Small government low taxes less stupid regulations will open a more better world. Close political exceptions and people lets take back our country. The world will follow a true leader not Socilaists. Lots of change coming just not the progressive type. 2012 could set a precedent that returns America to a Republic. That turn would unleash a giant once again. It smells like a socialist utopia project in the making. WW2 cliches “the war to end all wars”, soon “the catastrophe to end all greed and a world united as ONE in politics, economic and religion (ecumenical movement)”. It smells like a communist manefesto repeating itself. A Christian is against utopianism and earthly rulership,
Jesus Christ is not going to rule on earth and coexist with earthly kingdoms united in a utopia. If you see a UFO show and aliens proclaiming themselves as Christs and preach to you another gospel. Then you know that as a Christian we have a war on our hands and we must fight angainst these fallen angelic manifestation of the humanoid kind.
It seems this is where the scripture is fulfilled that as a Christian you shall be hated by all nations and killed for Christ Jesus sake. This is the utopia from the socialist who will ride on the back of these catastrophes and even throw in some outer world alien threat to unite the world. Then they will declare peace and safety.
The Holy Bible tells us 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them,

The thing to look for is the depth of the quakes. The shallow ones are not much of a concern. Deeper quakes tend to indicate subduction which would be the cause of a 9.0 or bigger quake.
I live 32 miles from Mt Rainier and will have a great view if it decides to go off. On another note scientists have determined the subduction area is much closer to Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia than previously thought. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2010284740_megaquake17m.html

Ranier has several peaks and just recently some scientists believe they have found a Caldron interconnected to Hood, Helen and Ranier possibly more volcanoes. The size is similar to Yellowstones. If you are not familiar it is a super volcano about 2,000 times more powerful than the Helen eruption. Jesus said there would be many false prophets. I don’t portend to be one. I do suspect that Cascadia could be the next big quake. Tsunami will follow in about 20 minutes. Keep in mind all along the west coast there are numerous faults. A Mega-Quake 9.0 or above might set off other faults. If you are near the beach and a quake hits on the subduction zone you will have 20 or so minutes to get to higher ground. 100′ or above is the estimated Tsunami height at waters edge. This may happen tomorrow or many years in the future no one knows. The more you know can be powerful. Use prayer and be prepared. A get together with family or friends talking about what, where you can go etc. just might save your lives. This event will happen so do yourself a favor and learn. I hope this helps.
