5.1 magnitude earthquake strikes subduction zone south of Mount Tambora

September 21, 2011 – Sumbawa, INDONESIA – A 5.1 magnitude earthquake has struck the subduction plate of the ocean crust southwest of where the Mount Tambora volcano is located. According to the USGS, the earthquake had a depth of 44 km (27 miles) and the epicenter was 168 km (104 miles) SW of Bima, Sumbawa, Indonesia. Seismic tension and volcanic activity have escalated around Indonesia in the past month as volatility in the south Pacific Ring of Fire continues to build. –The Extinction Protocol

    As Mount Tambora has the unenviable tag of having the most powerful eruption in our past, (luckily in a mostly unpopulated area), it poses a huge threat to us now.

    Have read on wikipedia the devastation it caused in the past with the ash covering large areas of the globe causing crop losses for a year and many thousands of deaths, with EQ’s happening around the area I just hope it doesn’t wake up.

    Also, don’t forget about Toba, one of the largest super volcano in the world. It is in the nearby area.

      TRY LOOKING UP the ‘Toba Eruption’, approx. 70,000+ years BC.
      Very Interesting.

      Some geneticists and scientists believe, based upon the available evidence, that the Toba Caldera Eruption, almost resulted in the extinction of the entire Human race. ❗

    My interest in Mt. Tambora is slightly personal as I live on the outer rim of an extinct volcano in Australia, unfortunately called….Mt. Tamborine….. no link there we hope 😦

    I wish this would get more media attention. I have been watcning this for a few weeks now and it’s really hard to find any new information. I just keep checking USGS website for new earthquakes and using Google to search for any new news.

    This doesn’t look good. The last eruption was more powerful than Krakatoa and caused us to have the year without summer.

    This is getting scarier every day. Every time I check this website here there are usually several posts a day about Earthquakes and Volcanoes errupting. They don’t cover any of this on the “news” so without this site I would have no clue what is going on daily on this planet.     I agree Tina Marie. The news never covers these earthquakes, etc. But i mainly think it’s because the news stations are owned by powerful individuals and I bet they make certain things are not discussed or covered.

    5.1 is quite scary near this volcano that caused the year without summer, blackened the sky, caused many deaths. Just scary!
