Moderate 5.4 underwater earthquake strikes North Mid-Atlantic Ridge

August 31, 2011MAR – A magnitude 5.4 subsea earthquake struck along the Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge on Wednesday, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10km and was located just over 500 kilometres from the Azores- a magma hotspot. The quake occurred at 1:17 PM GMT. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) is a mid-ocean ridge, a divergent tectonic plate boundary located along the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, and part of the longest mountain range in the world. It separates the Eurasian Plate and North American Plate in the North Atlantic, and the African Plate from the South American Plate in the South Atlantic. The Ridge extends from a junction with the Gakkel Ridge (Mid-Arctic Ridge) northeast of Greenland southward to the Bouvet Triple Junction in the South Atlantic. Although the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is mostly an underwater feature, portions of it have enough elevation to extend above sea level. The section of the ridge which includes the island of Iceland is also known as the Reykjanes Ridge. The average spreading rate for the ridge is about 2.5 cm per year. –IWO

    Hi Alvin,
With the earthquakes occurring and volcanoes erupting to this extent, we cannot definitely say that they are normal, correct? Had this happened before at this frequency? Media does not report (or minimally) about these things, except Al Jazeera.

    • Science say they are normal…I hypothesize this time they are not normal because they are driven by a cause. Volcanism and increased sesimic activity are not the cause of the changes gripping the planet; they are the effect. The effect is rooted in many causes which I outlined in my book. This process will continue to worsen until it will threaten all life on this planet. The first spike in activity came in 2010, now we’re seeing more activity at magma plumes, Etna, Hawaii and the Canary Island swarm (El Hierro of over 4200 tremors), Ascension Island, and Java and large-scale cluster earthquakes in 2011, the eruption of Nabro (the frist eruption in recorded history), the stirrring of Tambora, swarms at Long Valley, and major extreme weather climate events, 2012 will see effects worsen. Now you tell me if any of this ever happened in your lifetime or your parent’s lifetime before 2010?

As Groucho Marx always said, “Who you gonna believe me or your own eyes?”

      • Thank you for your answer Alvin. I agree with you that this isn’t normal. However, I’m sure you also get the response that, “This has always happened and we just better instruments now then we had before”. Even 2 Peter 3:2-4 says “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers…saying…all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

        Thank you for your diligence.

        Be blessed and Maranatha

      • Yes, important scripture because it says the world will say these are just cyclical processes and things will continue just as they always have and this is why the crisis will catch the vast majority of the world by complete surprise. Thanks for the addition.

I live here in Manila, and it was reported yesterday at around 2:57 afternoon, Mindanao (Sothern Philippines) was hit by 7.0 magnitude earthquake. No injuries or damage reported because it was a deep-sea quake. I guess it’s linked to the tremors off in Indonesia and Vanuatu.

I just want to ask the author of Extinction Protocol whether all these quakes and volcanoes and weather is something different from all these years or it is that we are seeing this for the first time. Because i still don’t see how 2011 and 2012 are different from previous years.

Off topic i know but evidence the polar shift has begun

read bout 3 quarters down where they admit parts of field in the south Atlantic anomaly have flipped and are pointing north instead of south,

    any thoughts???

    • Changes are already occurring to the planet and every indication is they are intensifying and will continue to do so. It’s the story of human existence…everything in outer space was always more important than the urgent problems festering under mankind’s own nose.

That means the the Canary Islands that located in northwest of Africa was being shaken by Moderate 5.4 underwater to cause a landsildes to create the megatsunami. What do you think of this statement?

I would just like to say that as a 56-year-old woman who has been interested in such things since reading Hal Lindsey’s _Late Great Planet Earth_ some 40 years ago (okay so he got a few things wrong at least on the timing), there has definitely been an uptick in the frequency and severity of these events. I’ve never seen anything like it.

I would refer you to 2 Peter 3:3-4 which says (in part) that “scoffers will come in the last days… saying “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” I am reading Alvin’s book and have to say if even just a fraction of what he reports (with supporting evidence mind you) is true then things are definitely not the same as in previous years… EVER!

Just my thoughts on the matter. Trying to be prepared… if there can be such as thing!

Irene, oh yes the famous natural disasters aren’t really increasing but just our technology to report them is better. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. That’s like saying Katrina wasn’t really that bad, it’s just that it seemed that bad with all the news coverage of it. The advantage is that this technology allows us to see the out of control freight train barrelling towards us.

I posted this link last week for Pia but it answers questions still being asked.

Alvin is trying to get the message across but here it is many don’t understand.

The Mid Atlantic has 3 tectonic plates coming together, just like it is East of Japan. Japan, as everyone knows had a major earthquake in March 2011 at the intersection of those tectonic plates. However nothing is ever said about the tectonic plates in the Mid Atlantic mainly because they rarely suffer any movement unlike the tectonic plates which make up the so called “ring of fire”. However there was a major undersea earthquake at this Mid Atlantic point some time back in 1607. The resulting tsunami swept up the Bristol Channel and caused widespread flooding in South Wales, Devon, Somerset, and Gloucestershire. It is only a matter of time before another major earthquake at this point, and it will be a big one believe me. Problem is how will the UK cope with two nuclear power stations in the Severn Estuary? I think we could well be seeing a nuclear disaster far greater than Chernobyl or Fukishima.
