Cloud formation on Earth may be linked to cosmic rays

August 29, 2011 SWITZERLAND – It sounds like a conspiracy theory: ‘cosmic rays’ from deep space might be creating clouds in Earth’s atmosphere and changing the climate. Yet an experiment at CERN, Europe’s high-energy physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland, is finding tentative evidence for just that. The findings, published today in Nature1, are preliminary, but they are stoking a long-running argument over the role of radiation from distant stars in altering the climate. For a century, scientists have known that charged particles from space constantly bombard Earth. Known as cosmic rays, the particles are mostly protons blasted out of supernovae. As the protons crash through the planet’s atmosphere, they can ionize volatile compounds, causing them to condense into airborne droplets, or aerosols. Clouds might then build up around the droplets. The number of cosmic rays that reach Earth depends on the Sun. When the Sun is emitting lots of radiation, its magnetic field shields the planet from cosmic rays. During periods of low solar activity, more cosmic rays reach Earth. Scientists agree on these basic facts, but there is far less agreement on whether cosmic rays can have a large role in cloud formation and climate change. Since the late 1990s, some have suggested that when high solar activity lowers levels of cosmic rays, that in turn reduces cloud cover and warms the planet. Others say that there is no statistical evidence for such an effect. “People are far too polarized, and in my opinion there are huge, important areas where our understanding is poor at the moment,” says Jasper Kirkby, a physicist at CERN. In particular, he says, little controlled research has been done on exactly what effect cosmic rays can have on atmospheric chemistry. –Nature News

Very interesting…the explanation in the middle part of the article. Now I understand. God knew what He was doing when He created the sun to emit CMEs, flares, etc., to bathe our part of the solar system. It’s like an invisible army of Cosmic Ray Warriors (CRWs) or a “fire hose” spraying away things that would cause harm. So what seems to be a negative thing (CMEs) is not. Unless, of course, you know….

I was thinking along those lines or something to that affect – but did not know quite how to express my views. You did it excellently.

I’m unable to find the words to even begin to describe the awesomeness of our Creator God’s intelligence…..as a matter of fact there may be no words than can describe Him/Her/Them/It. I’m just glad in the sense of being happy that I – many of us have some of the DNA of the Creator.

      Glory to the Highest.

    • I couldn’t have said it better myself, Steve. And if you really think about it, the only reason we “fear” CMEs now is because our reliance on our electronic equipment (and junk) and rely less on our survival skills and trusting God to take care of us like he promised to. When the last CME “attack” came, the only real problems were the frying of some telegraph lines. Now, I’m not sure if many would survive

Thank you for this wonderful article. I look forward to reading about more research into this theory.

We here in Scotland had a rather odd looking sky last night, will post link to some pics but they don’t do it justice. Never seen a sky like this in my life, really odd looking clouds and the colours were amazing but kinda spooky at the same time.

Craig – aside from the clouds themselves the colour may be to do with Nabro erupting a while back. A friend of mine found an article saying to look out for them and my sky was similar couple nights ago. May be a possible answer for the colour.

Yeah right, and what are the planes spraying in the sky? Do scientists think everyone is stupid?

CRAIG – a few weeks ago I saw clouds very similar to one of those pics. The one that looks like upside down gum drops. I called my daughter out to take a look cause I had never seen clouds like that. A passerby also commented that they had NEVER in their entire life (he was 83) seen clouds like that. My daughter said that it looked just like a cross between the “Candy Land” game board and “The Smurf’s” hometown. I wish I had taken a picture

It was quite something and everyone was talking bout it and posting pics on FB but it was the colours that got me most, it really was a sight to see, lasted about 15 mins. Wish I took pics or vids now. If there is a sky in hell this is what it would look like, as I said spooky but amazing.

Got your book, Alvin. From the initial mental walk-through I can say it’s a priviledge and a blessing to be able to read and own it. A plethora of info!

There will be a serious competition in the coming days between your book, and my preparation work for this upcoming weekend’s fantasy football draft. There won’t be enough time in the day this week. At least I will have a great excuse if I don’t make the playoffs this year – the beautiful distraction known as “The Extinction Protocol 2012 and beyond”.

God continue to bless you brother.
